Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Anyone who doesn't think Jack is a huge loss is kidding themselves. He is an A grade midfielder and our VC. Not as easy to replace as we think.

Agree.

And he has had his first uninterrupted preseason ever i think (he got though most, but i don't think all of the sessions last year). So looks in ripping shape.

His kicking improved heaps last year - but looked to have gone to another level against the saints, with more penetration and depth, which is probably a function of having an uninterrupted preseason. It makes him much more dangerous and impactful.

At least he has completed the big Jan-Feb training block and so has his fitness base down.

Staggering that people still underrate Viney.

Intensity, on-field leadership, hardness. 10/10 in all three.

Watch the first bounce of the GF for a reminder

This is a blow, however if it does not have any ongoing issues for him, then I'll take this now, rather than round 22

People don’t notice Jack, because he is so often at the bottom of a Pack, feeding the ball out

Since when is Jack Viney easily replaced? and by whom….

Viney was already set to play slightly more forward in a midfield that featured more Pickett, Sparrow and the occasional Rivers rotation.

If he does miss time then Harmes comes in and takes a chunk of Viney’s on ball minutes and probably a fraction Sparrow and Petracca more on ball covers the rest.

That really shouldn’t be a significant change in results for home and away games.

Winning without multiple parts our full quota of best 22 really should be part of the plan this year so we’re fresher for finals.

Viney is one of my favs and exudes terrific onfield leadership by the way he plays the game. However we have a number of others in the team that rotate through his position (Brayshaw, Sparrow, Harmes , ANB even). It’s not a like for like but we are not losing out like many of make it out to be. We have an 8-9 deep midfield for this very reason. We have his injury  covered … if it was finals then it’s a different outlook but for now, just stay calm.

Love this line

“While he will miss this weekend’s practice match against Richmond, we don’t anticipate him to be further impacted ahead of the season.”

It could be media spin from Richo, to sooth the MFCSS of some, but I hazard a guess that it was just a knock and he is missing through precaution more than anything

Let's not let facts get in the way of a good ol' fashioned Demonland Mass Panic(TM) 😀

I hope what they really mean is that we can get by without him especially for a game or two early in the year - Rivers, Sparrow in particular will be keen to step up - but he is an absolute essential at the business end of the season NB finals.

Whilst Viney is very important to us I believe we have cover with the likes of Sparrow, Jordan, Rivers etc. for what I hope is only a short time out, if at all.

The lack of value that some still place on this bloke astounds me.  His presence makes us much better, and gives the opposition huge headaches.

backflip?

Seriously Jack was on fire in the training sessions I attended.

He was also on fire in the middle of last season in our big win against Brisbane at the MCG in June when he was captain in Max's absence:

https://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/ft_match_statistics?mid=10664

In addition to his trademark aggressive tackling, he showed some incredible agility in that match - changing direction at high speed and leaping over fallen players to win possession.  It was the best I've seen him play in years.  Clearly he was hampered by some injury in the latter part of the season and wasn't a shadow of the player he can be in the finals.

I'm very hopeful that his great preseason sets him up to play at his best this year and this knee injury is just a small hiccup.

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
