Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

MELBOURNE’S Clayton Oliver left the training track early on Wednesday due to further hamstring discomfort that he experienced during his pre-training testing.

The Demons’ GM of AFL Performance Alan Richardson provided an update on the midfielder.

“Clayton has a complex hamstring injury, due to the fact that the injury is located where the muscle attaches to the tendon, and to further complicate that, there is injury to two separate hamstring muscles,” Richardson said.

“There is no doubt that Clayton’s recovery has been complicated by the week he was required to spend immobile in hospital.

“What we have experienced so far is that Clayton can comfortably achieve 90 percent of his running capacity, but as we saw yesterday, he is unable to get to full speed to pass his minimum training markers.

“This suggests that, due to the discomfort Clayton felt during his run throughs, further recovery time is required. At this stage, we expect this will be three to four weeks.

“The club will continue to explore all treatment options for Clayton, but as with all players, we won’t be taking any risks with his return to play timelines.”

Club has done well with communicating updates about the injury to a blood hungry and irrational media. Hopefully that shuts them up and stops the pointless and harmful speculation.

Hopefully the midfield can get by without him and maintain our hold on a top four spot. Viney has definitely stepped up in his absence.

On another note, is Damien Barrett the biggest turdlet on the planet? No need to answer folks, it’s a rhetorical question.

I’ve got a 5 month old baby who fires off less tish than him!

Why didn't they communicate the complexity of the injury to begin with? Did they not know it was a tendon issue?

Why let all this [censored] fester online and in the media and cause further hurt to Clarry?

Also the mind boggles why we are now giving him 3-4 weeks to recover, instead of, you know, two months ago??

I'd much rather he take as long as he needs than rush him back.  In all honesty, him missing is far from the reason we've not been winning much.  The mids have done a great job in his absence, Viney has really taken the bull by the horns, Sparrow has stepped up, Tracc is having a great season all bar his kicking for goal, Brayshaw has played some good footy through the middle.  Together with our remarkable defence, they've been the reason we've been in a winning position in every game since he went out.  Now if we can just hit the scoreboard!

Clearly was tendon all along.

& that’s exactly what I thought when I first saw the footage of him pulling it. You’re no chance to play within a couple weeks after pulling a string at that pace while thumping a footy… none!

100% Oliver coming in wouldn’t have changed our forward connection or scoring conversion.

Most teams can win without 1 of their stars. We have a team full of em.  No excuses.

Whilst I agree there are no excuses, I disagree that Oliver coming in wouldn't have changed our forward connection.
He is our best star and the best hands i've ever seen. He doesn't fumble and he hits targets all the time with his hands.

The way we play going forward of the ball has been very different without him, the way we move out of the center has been different. We haven't been spreading and hand balling out of the contests the same since he's been out.

Since Oliver has been out Petracca has put the weight on his shoulder and has stopped hitting up forwards and started blasting it at goal.

The stats tell a different story. We should have beaten Geelong, GWS and Freo. The culprit was kicking accuracy. Trac is usually the player with the highest scoring involvements and he is still playing.

We have Contested footy in all three of those games (I think) and outside the brain fart in the 4th at Kardinia we were dominant.

IMO the issue is our forward mix and confidence in set shot kicking. Gawn at FF is not working and the sooner the coaching staff realise this and change it, the better. We have to be more mobile and something like BB at FF, JVR, Smith,  Melksham, Kozzy and Chin are setup to do that. The solution however doesn’t stop there, the delivery is important and we have to honour short kicks into the 30-40m zone.

Some posters are blaming the fitness staff, but is it not possible that the medicos who did the initial scans got it wrong?

(Disclaimer: I know nothing about such things.)

We have been warlocked jinxed by the injury curse! Thank god we took our chance in 21 with a fit list

That is a really salient point, that emotional posters either don't know, or choose to forget.

The injury list is THE biggest predictor of premiership success.

I also hope that all your follow up posts also take this into account... because all your previous certainly don't.

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the
