Its really stark isn't it.. especially the Petracca number, Cant and wont be the best player in the comp if he has numbers like that and frankly, that has let us down.

what disturbs me is that so many seem confused or misguided about their run up to kick fr goal. If It’s obvious to me and I’m no coach then how is this unaddressed?!

Max runs a mile out to his right and either  hooks it thru the left points or kicks straight thru the right. If he was kicking from 50 or 55 then maybe i can see the point re going fr extra distance, but at 25metres it’s plain wrong. And obviously so. CP is doing the same.  just go bk and kick it over the man on the mark like the good old days. Absolutely you could not do worse than the current method. trying to avoid kicking over the man on the mark isn’t serving it’s purpose.

NIbbler has no idea and spargo is unreliable over anything more than 30 metres. Kozzi is another one who’s wasteful but not in the same league as the 4 above.

We need to either get a new goal kicking coach or pull the current one in with a heavy “ please explain” We can talk about game style, loading, Tmac, injuries or internal distractions inn2022 but the fact is we should be sitting top of the ladder now with 3 more wins. Goalkicking has killed or is killing our season. If I can see the error in the run up then it must truly be as obvious as dogs balls.

Has anyone got any info at all on who guides the at the club? or if anything is being done.

Every part of Gawn's set shot routine and set up is abysmal. The guy is currently our main target inside 50 and he hasn't kicked a goal since round 12. At present he'd have more chance of kicking a goal by facing the opposition goal and kicking over his head.

Melksham's decision to kick around the corner on his left foot in the second quarter and Pickett's miss in the third quarter were just awful. I knew we wouldn't win after Pickett's effort.

Yes, here are all our players with 10+ shots this year and a comparison to last year, noting that our overall accuracy is higher than last year.

Is there a disadvantage to kicking the ball straight over the man on the mark?  In golf, there's a theory of choosing an "intermediary target" between your ball and the hole when putting.  The theory goes, if I can get the ball to "roll over" that much closer - and easier- target then I the ball should continue on to wherever you want it to eventually go. As long as the players can line the man on the mark up with the centre of the goal, I am unsure why they wouldn't use it as a "helper"?

Just hate to be critical of Trac but geez when you are having 58 shots at goal and your going at <30% it hurts the team - hopefully he can straighten up and quick

His set shot accuracy (20%) is actually worse than his accuracy in general play (31%). This was posted on Twitter recently:

Which to me suggests it is largely a mental problem - either way I hope he gets on top of this asap
His mate Clarry is worse - it is the clear weakness in both their games

If I was being paid the amount of money these guys are (Trac, Oliver, Gawn), and I was kicking as badly as these guys are, I would be extremely embarrassed putting my hand out each week for my pay packet. And I’d be moving heaven and earth to fix the problem.

Lets be fair - they are doing a hell of a lot right - its an issue they need to address but being embarrassed to get paid - C'mon

Yep, they are doing an awful lot right - they are great, even generational players - and that’s why their abysmal goal kicking is so incongruous with their abilities. My payment comment was tongue in cheek, but a bit over the top I agree. I’m sure each one of them is embarrassed by their goal kicking record, and they should be.

Who's the forward coach, is it Stafford? He was a ruckman and not the best kick from memory.

Agree. Goalkicking has to be the primary focus.  You have to WANT to kick the goal.  Fuc&$$)& the selflessness mantra.  If you’re within 30 metres, kick the goal.

Forwards coach Greg Stafford.  Ffs. You might as well have Tony Liberatore as ruck coach.

ps Max.  1- stop endlessly spinning the footy  2- run in to kick straight through the goals

The overall accuracy being higher is a bit misleading when two thirds of your 10+  shot players have regressed in their accuracy compared to the previous year.

I wonder what a pro golfer’s strike rate is for an equivalent length putt

or if you want to take some control away, % fairways hit off tee

do footballers practice goal kicking as much as golfers practice putting (speaking from the golf perspective )

Pretty sure it was Plugger I say on an interview in the last couple of years who said short run up, straight run up and keep the ball still. Less things can go wrong so better chance to kick a goal.

You watch Max coming in flipping the ball about and then hooking out to the right around the man on the mark you pretty much know it's going to miss before the ball hits his boot.

If we can all see it why the heck isn't Stafford??

The answer to the question raised in the thread title would appear to be NOBODY. 😱☹️

But I had thought that Choco had worked with his coloured ball with our guys last year - is he continuing with basic skill training still?

I seem to recall this comment has been made before. Someone mentioned on that thread that Stafford actually had a very good goal kicking record and accuracy rating. I don’t recall which thread though

Sorry M, I have no idea.  If he isn’t, perhaps it’s now the right time for him  to run a refresher course on basic skills!

The only vision ive seen of Choco using that ball from a drill perspective was within an indoor basketball style set up at Casey i believe.

Is the indoor part of that drilling part of the problem i wonder?  As soon as they get outside in the elements many are at sea as the environment's very different.

The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to
