Easy to forget LJ put together one of the most significant patches of football in the history of the club to turn the 2021 grand final. the reasons to target Jackson from Freo's perspective are as obvious as the reasons we're so desperate to keep him.

I

Agreed, but that was last year and now Freo are looking at the here and now where LJ clearly hasn't done anything of last years level consistently and is still potential, and  as someone else on here said he may not be top 15 in this years B and F.

Good luck to him either way though.  He should be planning for huge impact this week.

I still don't understand this move or how he slots in. Hes a no.1 ruck, as is Max. And they both aren't forwards.

I get the vibe the club wants to play Max as a forward, as we've seen more recently, but it won't work IMO.

Maxy can barely hit the side of a barn on 8 out of 10 occassions, I don't get the point of it tbh.

The Gawn/Preuss forward ruck combo we dreamt up in late 2018 ended up being a disaster, despite both of them being perfectly fine as individual players. Then we got the Gawn/Jackson combo together which has managed to work really well. Can’t help but think the Gawn/Grundy falls into the former category TBH.

For the record my preference would be to back Sam Weideman in if Jackson leaves, i think he's got the ability to be a good forward, but also is quite competent in the ruck as he has demonstrated when he's had opportunities.

I'd use the salary cap space saved to pursue a Key forward of quality.

l wouldn't call it a disaster, the pick for Preuss landed BBB who was in top form in the 2nd half of season and finals ... we also won a flag

With the big increases in the salary cap in the forthcoming years (on the back of the record Broadcast rights deal reported today) we could be in a position to back-end a new lucrative contract for LJ

A 5 year deal would take Luke through to being a RFA.  If he does re-sign, it may not just be for the 2 years that has been mooted

Instead of the $12Million salary cap that we see now, up to $16.3Million could be the available figure from 2025 onwards

As for LJ's form, 2 of his best games this year have been against the Lions.  So if he excels this coming Friday, the mood could easily swing around to LJ being an absolutely required player

As they say in the classics, a week is a long time in footy

$650 is insane money for McStay. has never even kicked 30 goals in a season. Unless they want to play him back, but still...

I agree,  but he is the only Key fwd on the market so gotta beat everyone to get him.  very well timed by McStay, even if it is just luck

I still can't get my head around this. If Collingwood are prepared to pay around $300k a year of Grundy's wage and pay McStay $650k they are basically swapping those 2 players for very little salary cap saving and similar draft pick swaps.

Grundy would eat McStay for breakfast as a footballer.

The only reason I can see, is Collingwood believe Grundy's injuries are chronic and/or they are being delusional about the draft pick they will get for him.

If Jackson goes, and Grundy is fit, I'd love to have the best 2 AFL ruckman at our club.

Yeh it does sound strange,  has been no chat about Grundy being done injury wise.  and you would think we would do a very vigorous medical like we did with Bennell.

I'm very interested to see how it works.

I think Collingwood have been sucked in by the form of Cameron and obviously salary cap issues

in fairness to Grundy is far different from Pruess. He is not a tap ruck but is great at second efforts

If LJ stays the offer to Grundy would disappear IMO. The Pies desperately need Grundys salary off their list, he could end up somewhere else. All this is depending on these reporters actually being right. Hmm my gut feel is they are guessing at best.

Coupla things.

1. Why would we help Collingwood relieve salary cap space?
Keep the pressure up both on field and off.
They wanna give De Goey 3.2M or whatever ... Just let 'em keep digging.

2. Haven't heard a peep from either Jackson or Grundy.
These media parasites with nothing better to do than make sheet up seem to think they're league wide list managers.

McStay  is a good contested mark and kick. I don’t think he has the forward craft though (leading patterns etc) but it may actually work with our game plan which is predictable. He probably lacks defensive accountability though which isn’t ideal.

He is also a clear upgrade on Weid and can definitely relieve Gawn in the ruck. I think he be a better choice than Grundy but 650 is definitely overs. Probably a 500-550 player.

I wonder if we play hardball with Collingwood and try to squeeze a great deal for us by either trying to get Grundy on the cheap. If we can walk away from that deal Collingwood won’t have cap and we. Oils potentially lure McStay  below ilhis asking price win-win

i think everyone has given up on McStay, i like the thinking though.

Coll have already said they will pay #300k of Grundy's salary, which is great and i don't think it will get much better than that.

McStay  is not a key forward but a third forward in the Fritsch role really now with some ruck role playing.

Having watched him for all his career at Lions he us a better mark than Fritta but not any where nears the footy skills or smarts that Bailey brings to our table.

Salaries should be $400/500 to McStay and $600/650 to Bailey. His 50/ 60 H and A goals plus Finals are priceless for us.

One holding year for Jacko doesn't harm his future  potential.

It's a fan sight, what do you expect no comment until a decision is announced? Fans on a fans site discuss things is that a surprise?

Yep. Otherwise, on that basis, half the threads on here wouldn’t exist! 😂

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
