Trade and Free Agency rumours

Clearly happy for Hunt to move on and disappointed in Bedford requesting a trade.

Weideman won't be traded which makes sense as we need a back up ruck/forward option.

Loved the comment about "there's first round picks and there's first round picks." Rammed home the message Jackson is a generational talent which gives me confidence that we will come away from this trade with at least 1 x top 10 pick. How that happens remains to be seen.

Was reassuring after Jason Taylor got a little bit creative trying to sell Bowey and Laurie as first round picks when we took them in the 20's

Wasn't a fan of the blood rule, either.   He preferred to Let It Bleed.

edit:  Responding to Tarax Club, of course!

Got to feel gutted for north, as much as they annoyed me on field over the years they don’t deserve this. With us loosing Jackson and them Francis, and us maybe Pickett next year you have to seriously wonder why you would bother risking top picks on SA and WA players going forward. Jackson couldn’t have asked for a better culture than what he had in his time, Understudy to Gawn, Grand final, rising star. What more could u ask for.

Mummy and daddy.

My take from the Tim Lamb interview is that we’re going to get Grundy to fill the void left by Jackson, and otherwise we’ll be backing in the same squad for premiership glory next year. He basically ruled Corbett out and we haven’t been linked with anyone else. I know there’s always the discussion around us “not leaking” and having hidden targets but I can’t remember any of our trades not being known by the media in the past several years apart from Pat McKenna which came from nowhere.

I find it a little frustrating (surely Gunston for free would have helped us) but these guys did an incredible job assembling a premiership list so will have to back their judgment.

DEAL IN THE WORKS FOR GRUNDY

COLLINGWOOD will push for a top-25 pick for ruckman Brodie Grundy, whose move from the Magpies to Melbourne is growing closer.

The Demons have been Grundy's tipped landing spot for weeks as Collingwood considered a trade for the big man, who has five years left to run on his deal.

A selection early in the second round is likely to pave the way for Grundy's move from the Pies to the Demons, where he will partner fellow All-Australian Max Gawn in a two-headed ruck department.

Collingwood is expected to pay a meaningful portion of the remaining five years of Grundy's contract, but when the Grundy trade is completed could also depend on what the Demons get back for Jackson.

Reports that Tarryn Thomas could be keen on a change of scenery. His skillset would compliment our midfield group perfectly

Ready to go..

Apologies if this has already been brought up but, Tarryn Thomas potentially exploring options according to Sam Edmund.

Anyone have any insight on him? Pick 8 and only 22 years old still so fits well in our age bracket, have no idea what you’d give up for someone in his position given he’s had a bit of a turbulent year

The one positive thing if Horne Francis does goto Port, is that they will have to throw everything they have in picks this year plus next year - pretty much ending any pursuit for Kozzy unless they give us players i.e Butters.

Don’t want to Paint it Black but he is clearly running Out of Time. So to Start Me Up, he may need Mother’s Little Helpers. Which given the league’s stance on recreational and performance drugs would leave him Shattered. But in the end  It’s Only Rock ‘n Roll (But l Like it) !

When the whip comes down Mother’s Little Helpers it could be The Last Time for any Satisfaction

True technically, but multiple matched bids ahead of them, so neither was in the top 20 players of the draft class. There’s a huge difference between a high first round pick like a Petracca or Oliver, and a pick in the 20s like Bowey or Laurie. If we’re losing Jackson, we need to replace him with gun top end talent, not mid rangers. IMO neither Bowey or Laurie have shown they’ll even make it long term at this stage, let alone be players who impact games.

They won’t do it with 2 of course but they’re open to split it to get it done. Get a top ten pick if WC split, + FF + 26 for Luke and 42.ABDE49EE-0FFD-4A8F-B486-E10A08043BE8.thumb.png.11930647f6a569ddfa2c700647cac6f0.png

Funny they won't give up pick two. But if he was in the national draft he would surely go 2 or 3 after Ashcroft

If we can turn Hunt and Bedford into Grundy I'll be stoked

TT was clearly out of sorts at North this year. The form he showed in the 2nd half of 2021 was outstanding. He's a perfect fit for us.

If Harmes has been told that he can look elsewhere, I hope that means that we have TT in our sights.

When he said about the coaches being creative with what’s on our list for our forward line I interpreted that as 2 words.

Harrison.
Petty.

Agree. He also said Weid not moving to another club

Interesting that Tim Lamb referred to us being in "Win Now" mode (or something similar).  That's obviously no surprise but I wonder how much it effects our trading / drafting strategy.  Obviously Grundy very much fits that but if we are after a top 10 pick then who realistically will be ready to go next year?

Would they pick based on who is going to be the best player or who is going to fit our needs best in the next 3-5 years (but might not have the ceiling of others that could take longer).

Harmes now looking elsewhere.

Possibly Essendon.

Thanks for confirming... so who overtakes him in his role in the FD eyes?

And... we will always have

Brayshaw already started to. Harmes was spending more and more time wing and half forward once Gus moved midfield.

We just need to package up ANB too and we’re in business. Got to give a little to get a little.

Harmes nearly left 2 years ago but time ran out to do trade. Cracks the sads when not playing in midfield  Was furious when Viney came back from injury last year and he went back again.  yes you will not believe me  but I know someone.    Thanks for your service Harmesy  see ya

Yep, that put me at ease knowing that not just accepting unders for Jacko.

A top 10 pick is definitely a starting point.

Good question. Sparrow and Jordon can both play inside mid. Where is Gus going to play?

From Casey, maybe they will try to groom Chandler and Laurie as midfield/forwards.

Channel 9 just announced we are looking at Hunter from the Bulldogs. I hope it’s just gossip!

  • CASEY: Richmond

The winds finally returned to Casey Fields for the Demons’ third home game of the VFL season, and its impact was immediate. After two opening rounds played in uncharacteristically fine conditions, the Anzac Day clash brought back the familiar gusty conditions that have been a feature of the region at this time of the year.
Forced to kick into the breeze first, the slow-starting Demons faced a tricky opening against an enthusiastic young Tigers outfit. Casey responded by turning the contest into a scramble, pressuring Richmond into errors and missed targets. The tactic proved crucial, keeping the game tight for three and a half quarters before the Demons pulled away with the autumn wind at their backs.

It seemed as if the whole purpose of the Anzac Eve clash at the MCG between the Demons and the Tigers was building toward that single, unforgettable moment when Kozzie Pickett soared above Campbell Gray and all but fittingly etched his name onto the face of the 2026 Frank ‘Checker’ Hughes Medal.
