Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

As they should, considering the soft draw they have been gifted

Teams Played twice
Geelong- West Coast, North Melbourne, St Kilda, Port Adelaide, Western Bulldogs
Melbourne - Western Bulldogs, Port Adelaide, Brisbane, Collingwood, Fremantle

Absolute joke that a top 4 side from last year gets North Melbourne twice

We locked in top 8 last night.  We can pretty much lock in top 4 with a win over Collingwood next round.

If we play Weideman, that could all change ... it's like playing a finals contender with one man missing from the TEAM effort. Still, I hold the premise that we will beat Collingwood and probably cement position 2 on the ladder at the end of the H&A rounds.

Every assistance has been considered for poor, old Geelong.

Looks like Geelong will be premiers

As someone elae replied "minor premiers"

In fact I reckon the Cats should be nominated minor premiers each year to save us all the trouble.  Then they get taken down in September.

Although this year, its up to the dees or the Pies to make sure that happens IMO.  And maybe the swans.

No.  Winning the Grand Final.

Oh, ok. I will let Goodwin know.

Although, Geelong have lost prelims and GFs the last decade against teams lower on the ladder…

And anything can happen when big finals are played at our home ground and not theirs…

But no, you’re right, let’s just give up.

We have an extra days break on the Pies

2 extra days against Carlton who are coming back from Brisbane

And an extra days break on the Lions

The fixture has been tough up til now but no more excuses. We get a week off after round 23 to reset and rest some of those tired and sore bodies. Let's run the table and take number 14! ❤️💙🏆

You implied, and I inferred.

IMO rpfc I don't see us winning the flag with the  current forward line unless a miracle happens and we get back Tmac in firing form after being out for weeks with foot problems. Replacing Sam with Brown wont make a lot of difference.

We have significant upside in Gawn and Jackson if not Petracca as well. Can they regain their earlier dominance. If so we will kick winning scores (accuracy permitting)

Melksham is delivering but can he sustain/improve it over the next 6 weeks

Salem has a lot more to contribute.

I'm not super confident but equally not without hope.

BBB when fit over Weid is a no brainer for me

when did we play The Filth in a "big match" like we are this Friday?

"Big match" would be a final - and I don't think we have played The Filth since 1964?, or playing a HnA match which means making a play for the finals or avoiding the wooden spoon.

So, I go back to 1976 to Bogan Park when we had to win to make the finals for the first time since 64 and The Filth had to win to avoid its first-ever wooden spoon.

It was even sweeter when we fixed up The Filth in 1976 18.20-128 ti 17.11-113 with Carman, Phil kicking 7 spectacular goals for The Filth (Carmen finished when we got him) and Biffin, Ray kicking 4 for us.

As The Filthstorian (that's a Filth historian) recalls:

"In 1976, Collingwood finished last for the first time in its history under coach Murray Weideman with six wins, more than any previous bottom side."

How sweet that The Filth weren't that bad but we give em a spoon even though we missed our on finals due to Footscray drawing with CarlTank at least we fixed up coach Weideman, who went round bashing our blokes in 1958 GF, as they sacked Weideman and then replaced him with Hafey ... Weideman could not stand that Hafey was the first "clean" (I mean not a coach from within The Filth) coach.

I hold grudges!

BTW I have a soft spot for Sam Weideman but I just wish Sam would change his name!

1988 final at Waverley. I think Nathan Lyon kicked a massive torp in that game if I'm not mistaken.  Ok, i see this has alteady been noted.

Was it a top spinner or perhaps an overspinner? :)

Gary Lyon was famous for his torp against Carlton in the 1988 Prelim Final.

I still believe Melbourne might be minor premiers. Cats drop one game we will get them.

That one away game against Gold Coast with their season on the line, might be our shot at the Minor premiership.

Having said that, the Cats play the eagles in r23 don't they? So they'll go into their MCG QF not having had a competitive hit out for 3+ weeks, and having not played at the MCG for close to 2 months. 4th might not be so bad a position to finish 🤣

Didn't they beat us in 2017 when they were 13th and we only had to win to make finals?

I recall that we didn't lay a tackle in the first 15 mins such was our antipathy and we missed finals by 0.2% or thereaboouts....

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
