I was having a pre game drink at the Pullman and saw Lingers cycle past in his training gear at around 5pm. He had to stop first in line at a red light at the corner of Clarendon St and Wellington Parade to the delight of a little girl and her dad who were crossing at the time.

4 umpires all on diff angles....contest between 3 players in the middle of the field (assuming where some or all four umps had line of sight) and zero free kick from any of them!

The way he's going it won't be long until he's on a par with Lever and May.

I watched him closely night. Great timing, positioning and mark of the ball. He was outstanding last year and has picked up where he left off despite the injury disruption. He's a fantastic player

A couple of times? My wife kept telling me to calm down the neighbours will hear you. After a while she said you will win this Inspite of the point kicking. Wise woman!

Our neighbours are a bit further away than in Melb town and I had the door shut. And yes a wise woman

It was hard going scoring. Part of our inaccuracy was due to the pressure from the Tiges. They  were flooding and giving us no space to work in. It backfired because it gave them no space to get the ball out of there.

Hopefully that's our bad scoring game out of our system. I keep thinking of 2008 GF. Geelong 11.23 ! Weird how it feeds on itself and suddenly regulation shots like ANB's are impossible.

Christian won't even look at "Captain Cotch". MFC peole are the only ones who'll care or even notice. But funny how "Captain Cotch" keeps getting into these situations.

Our superstar ruckman/midfielder/forward is only 20 and still developing. How many 20 year olds in the comp are still seasons away from getting a regular game? Or fighting just to hold their place on a list?  Our superstar will have his ups and downs yet.

Agree, it was predominantly where we took the shots from and a lack of settling and rushing some kicks. We seemed obsessed with kicking to contests deep and tight in the pocket. Particularly first half too many times where our forwards did not separate and therefore the only space was deep and wide or no one leading at the kicker for an easier set shot.  Part of that is the way the Richmond backs set up and block you centrally but most of it was just not thinking it through.

In the calm of the next day I am surprised at the amount of comment about players who were not great last night. Clearly kicking all those points is not good. However the tigers were flooding our forward line. Yes Smith made a couple of costly errors. All players make errors no player is perfect  but as a unit we still won and as my wife said after quarter time the result was not in doubt. We are now 6 and zero if we had kicked any thing near reasonable it would have been a walk over. At 6 and zero with flag in our pocket a lot on here are majoring in minors. We are a very good team.

Both Tom Sparrow and Kozzi missed easy shots because of unnecessary urgency…..like they needed to get off for a dunny visit or something. Could it be the downside of momentum, a sense that everything needs to happen quickly to maintain the energy? The older heads would settle first….think BBB.

And his comeback is still 3-4 weeks off according to the AFL app.

I have an awful feeling that Jayden might miss out when we have our best backline but if he does jobs like that then he is a chance to stay in the team. I would prefer Jayden be able to play on a Charlie Cameron in September and get him thinking about defending Hunt and not just finding the footy.

Hunt was definitely the hard luck story last year, a lot seem to forget he was part of our best backline last year until injury. His disposal gets brought up often and even though he’s sprayed a few kicks I can’t recall him directly costing us many goals this year. His role has been refined somewhat this year and from what I’ve seen at the ground he has been excellent defensively.

Thats  our regulation game plan. Been playing it since beginning of last season and usually works a charm. it’s part of Goodwin’s ‘win the contest mantra’. Kick it deep to the pockets in static play and when other teams flood the back line. This time the extra pressure from the tigers stumped us a bit but basically it made sure they couldn’t exit cleanly.

Correct. Kids a freak and outperforming any reasonable expectations.

There was a suggestion on one of these threads that Jackson may be a late withdrawal. Not sure if that was guess work or inside intel. Just hope he's healthy and not carrying anything.

I’m not sure what people are complaining about. I thought that was a great game. Besides the goal kicking, that was a clinic in how you play the Melbourne way.  We absolutely strangled the life out of the Tigers and would have pulverised them in rebound had e we kicked even half the easy goals we missed.

i thought Richmond came with a strategy that might have worked but our pressure game caused them to doubt themselves and their hesitancy cost them.

 What amazes me is that we are just that good in our defence that we can beat a team like the tigers even when we are kicking like that. Wow

Rides to work then breaks the 17km barrier for distance covered during the game. Langdon has changed the whole dynamic of this team.

I remember Bernie Vince playing a ripper game for us once when either missed the tram or got stuck in traffic (can't remember which) and had to run the rest of the way to the ground.

Yes we are and we simply  had a bad night converting opportunities. As you said, a few more goals instead of points and it is a thrashing.

I don't think that Weid cemented his place in the team based on that performance. Yes he kicked 3, but a couple were gifts. 

At Casey, T Mac played the role that we need. He impacted contests, applied pressure and hit the scoreboard. Weid ticked one box.

Weid plays next week, but his position in the team isn't assured.
