Lever in and tomlinson out. Port have small forwards so I would keep Hunt but he must be on notice.  If we play next Thursday then I don't believe Brown will play.

Ben Brown definitely won't play only a 6 day break needs 7. I say no change.

How have we gone this far and no one mentioned that May couldn’t get out of a jog all night. Huge issue.

Tomlinson couldn’t either but he was playing on nippy smalls and that’s never been his go.

Maybe May was off with the fairies and trying to protect the deep entries but he’s my first worry. Only if he’s fit would I then worry about Tomlinson who was fine against the dogs and good enough against the Suns when tasked with an opponent. Tommo’s biggest issue tonight was a lack of confidence to launch and mark. He likes to work talls under the ball to spoil or mark, against smalls he has to back himself to out mark them.

McDonald in big trouble forward. But I’m still not sure on the Weid Brown combo. Has all the hallmarks of going pear shaped quickly.

Bring in the other Brown then.

McDonald has not played a decent game since the Port Adelaide game last year.

Can't continue to carry a bloke that's had zero influence.

Agree Dazzle, also in spite of Kozzies pressure I would seriously entertain Bedford coming in and relegating Kozzie to Medi Sub.

If Mitch Brown kicks at least 3-4, then he comes in for Mc Donald who is struggling.

I actually think one of Spargo or Kozzie need a break - both have been ineffective for most of this year, but unlikely to happen.

I'm not exactly sure what you want our small forwards to do. Ten tackles between them. Put opposition defences under enormous pressure. Huge part of our game plan along with ANB. If you have to replace them then Bedford and Chandler are next cabs off the rank. I'm not convinced either of them can do what Kozzie or Charlie could.

This...... I cannot believe Demonlanders giving May Votes tonight, He was comprehensively beaten and agree about his jogging, Is he worried about the Hammy??

T Mac, hnmmm another substandard game, has the turning circle of the Titanic and as iterated if Mitch Brown fires tommorrow he might be in strife, Also Van Rooyen waiting in wings who I have been very impressed with in my training reports!

On a 6 day break we probably need midfield or small forward reinforcements for fresh legs.

Petracca could play more forward.

Any of Harmes, JJ, Sparrow, Spargs could freshen up. Not that they’ve been bad but ideally we play a squad to get through the year.

Unfortunately I have little to no confidence in any of the available options.

They might kick a goal or few! Forward pressure is great, BUT would like them to hit scoreboard more often

Forward pressure creates goals for others (midfielders + tall targets). It's all about the sacrifice.

Kozzie kicked a couple of nice goals last week and Spargs a good goal on the run tonight. They're contributing.

I can’t see BBB, Weid and T Mac all playing.

So will the club have the guts to drop a senior stalwart in T Mac or a maligned key fwd who just kicked 4 goals, played his best game since the Geelong 2018 final and is crying out for some much needed confidence and continuity?

Hard call to make next week.

Going to be interesting to see how they treat two six-day breaks both with interstate travel.

Might need a freshen up but it hasn't been Goodwin's style necessarily to rest guys. Might also need to see who the best match-ups for Marshall and Georgiades are. Lever would be a very handy inclusion if fit.

Brown won't come in, he's only out of quarantine on Thursday, and will have had a week without full training. Could be wrong, but I'd be surprised.

Are you saying he'd be fresh?

We won't get rid for Weid for half the season now so TMac out and the forward line will have to adjust to having a tall who can't compete in a pack on board

Lever  and Brown in

Hunt and TMac out

When the ball goes into the forward line only one of the six can be a target (kick the goal). Considering Max, Jacko, Trac, Sparrow, Oliver and even Langdon also bob up regularly in the forward line, then opportunity lessen even more.  15 goals is normally the high end of what is expected from a team and with the midfield normally kicking 5+, Fritz and BBB/Weid kicking 5+, that doesn't leave a lot for the remaining forwards .So it's more about what else they bring, and currently they are all contributing to a functioning system.  Tmac covers a lot of ground (tiring opposition, creating space behind him) - he often blocks third up defenders, and will crash into packs, then there's often a deft little tap or bump in the middle of congestion.  Pickets pressure is getting to the point that he's achieving it by mere presence; though he could move towards the ball a little more.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it - we were a couple of points of a 100, playing ugly and kicking poorly!!!

He is not missing, mate, you’re not looking at the right things.

Lizzie (and Spargo) are not defensive liabilities up forward (at the moment at least). They chase, harrass, tackle, around the ground. Their efforts definitely make it harder for opposition players to rebound the ball by placing them under pressure.

As long as this pressure is up, and they aren't missing easy shots, fumble or low on confidence, they will stay in the team. They are both opportunity players who strike when the opportunity is there, so if they didn't kick any one week they could always kick 3 the next.

I think it's an easy call?

You drop the bloke that's been completely out of form since the Hawthorn game last year.

Did Goodwin say Lever and Brown are available next week or that they will play next week?  Subtle difference.

If Lever comes in a tall defender is the most likely to go; Tomlinson or Smith.  Port don't have many talls playing at the moment and Dixon isn't due back for a while.

Brown coming in is a bit harder to negotiate.  Sam earnt the right to play again and have the chance to claim a spot.  Not sure if TMc is carrying an injury but he just can't get off the ground to mark or spoil.   He probably hasn't won his position for quite a while.  And, I'm not sure that having no team training would matter that much for Brown so he could slot back in.

So keep Sam and omit either Brown or TMc.

If Ben Brown not available, both TMac and and Weid stay in. TMac has had a really poor year so far and needs time at Casey, but he stays in until Ben Brown available. Mitch Brown will get seriously exposed at AFl level - he is injury cover now.

AS I am typing, just now in the media conference, Goody just said both Brown and Lever are likely available for next week.

I actually think one of Spargo or Kozzie need a break - both have been ineffective for most of this year, but unlikely to happen.

OUT: TMac, Smith

IN: B Brown, Lever

Tmac should have been switched onto Wright last night and Maysie spending a stint up forward for awhile.

I believe we need Tmac in defence sometimes as very big players can monster May ( Admittedly this us the first time in about 35 games Maysie has lowered his colours. Not a bad effort.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
