Please Jack Viney help the club and drop yourself

Yes it was woeful but calm the farm where still clear on top of the ladder. We are being hunted by teams who lift there intensity. It is  so disappointing where not responding but we are still in pole position. Those two points are invaluable. Rivers showed his inexperience when he bombed that ball. He will learn from that. For those who say we won’t finish top 4 take a grip where 2.5 games clear of fifth. Our best is good enough just need to find it. Doesn’t help when the umpiring is shameful. Summed up by the mark in the last where Hibberd touched it and then it hit the ground. Also duck your head and smash it into a Dees player hey presto fee kick. It was horrendous.

Outplayed by a bunch of kids sitting 17th, 10 of whom would be playing in the VFL if they had a fit list, and for whom there was nothing at stake. That we have a full fit list, and sit on top of the ladder leaves only one way to describe that performance - very very enlightening. This is not a team who will seriously contend. After the GWS game I said we MIGHT just be pretenders. The Port win gave me really good pause. That game gives me all the remaining info I need. PRETENDERS WE ARE.

Please everyone take a deep breath. We've proven we can bring it against good sides when it matters this year.

Sure this draw is annoying, but it says nothing about our finals chances, and very thankfully hasn't cost us anything in the run home. 2 premiership points is as good as 4 in the context of the season, and probably teaches us a bigger lesson (since we clearly haven't learned it yet) than a 1 point win would have.

Probably the most embarrassing performance outside of 186 and 148 over the last 15 years. And that is saying something because we've had plenty of white flaggers.

Our win/loss records flatters us...massive front runners who can't respond when the game is not on our terms.

When the Hawks have sat on top of the ladder and we've been at the bottom that game is a flogging every time. No pride at this club...they're not winning any finals this year. We just got physically dominated by what would have to be the worst lineup fielded by any team over the last 5 years. Zero pride to allow that to happen.

Is the Goodwin the right guy? Results have shown this year that he has given these guys a formula to be successful....but these lazy show boaters don't seem to get it.

We will be waiting another generation of draft talent for a shot at a flag...these guys don't have it.

Except for when we turned the first GWS, St Kilda, Richmond, North Melbourne, and most importantly Brisbane games, right around.

And resisted comebacks from Geelong and the Dogs.

We have a clear problem against bottom sides but we won't be playing them in the finals, and our record against top 8 sides speaks for itself.

This isn't about whether we can/will win finals, this is about whether we will ruin our season's hard work by giving up a top 2 or top 4 spot.

[censored] teams know they can beat us so always bring that extra pressure and edge when playing us unfortunately. We have shot ourselves in the foot now as [censored] teams will continue to “turn on” against us and play there best game of the season.

Thank god we are in lockdown and I didn't get to attend afterall to sit through that. My god.

Our tackling pressure was non existent, those first 3 misses came back to bite us, players went missing and our attitude was poor.

No team in the top 8 or especially the top 4 will fear playing us in the finals.

Yet somehow we sit on top again.

Petty was good, especially in the last quarter.

Something to laugh about after that finish.

Luke Darcy said something like well that cost Melbourne top spot and now are third.  As he is talking the ladder goes up and we are on top.

Then he goes they are on top I got that wrong.

You would think and ex AFL player would know you get 2 points for a draw.

What a dumb [censored].

BOG Spargo, intelligent entries into the 50. Did not bomb it in.

Only bloke along with Salem in the team I feel is going to do something positive and execute when in his hands. The rest of them I've got no confidence in

Bulldogs beat the Suns by 11 points with 4 less scoring shots.

Dees draw with Hawthorn with 5 more scoring shots.

Our inaccuracy will cost us a final as it’s now become a pattern of behaviour.

Livid with Brayshaw’s miss late in the game. The Brayshaw of 2018 would’ve eaten that goal for breakfast.

Disgraceful loss. Serious weakness in this team that may eventually rear it's head against the top teams when it counts the most. Probably cost ourselves two home finals now.

Yeah the defense is ok but we can't actually win a game with offence when it's needed.

Many players out there had their worst games in a Melbourne jumper.

How do we dominate teams like Port and Brisbane and the Dogs but draw to hawthorn lol

This bloody team man is gonna give me a stroke

What is it about our experienced players that the gap between their best and worst is absolutely woeful.

McDonald on $700K per year is either decent or hopeless. Brayshaw looks good one week then looks like he's wearing 20KG of concrete in his boots and has smoked 5 joints before he goes on the field the next.

Maybe we're just an ordinary team who's managed to cop teams at the perfect time throughout the year...we've generally copped teams with heavy injury lists while we've maintained almost none...

What a waste of a launching pad into the finals!

I'm dumbfounded by this getting up for games against good teams, and the constant fumbles, poor skills and thoughtless  decision making that besets us against the 'also-rans.'  Totally dumbfounded!

I'm sorry but when are people going to start realising that I speak the truth! This was a bloody disgrace and top 4 is out of the question now. Most likely playing richmond round 1. Good job guys!

Can I genuinely thank you? Not because you speak the truth, but because you spout such absolute rubbish you forced me to signup just so I could place you on ignore.

Cheers :)

As to the game - what can you say? How do we continually put forth such utter crap against the bottom teams with nothing changing. Very very lucky to escape with 2 points.

  • Oliver arrogant. Work rate on obvious drop off in 'easy' games
  • [censored] Viney off to the forward pocket
  • Throw Rivers into the midfield, Brayshaw goes down back, or alternatively bring Bowey in for more polish

Bit harsh, Oliver was our leading possession winner and tackler. He had 11 when 9 players had 1 or less.

On the afl website whoever wrote the story for our game had Oliver and Viney as our best 2 players. I'd say there well off the mark.

Don't deserve two points.

Folded under pressure, our leaders like maxy went on full tilt and our structure completely fell apart.

Sorry Charlie Spargo, I thought you were okay

I don’t think this is the case. I think we cannot play two good weeks anymore. We look burnt out, not sure we will win more that 2 in the run home. Finals.. pfft

Any chance of occasionally taking the 2018 approach and just belting an awful team?

I’m not asking just much, just the odd win against a bottom four side will do.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

The media focus on the fiery interaction between Max Gawn and Steven May at the end of the game was unfortunate because it took away the gloss from Melbourne’s performance in winning almost everywhere but on the scoreboard in its Kings Birthday clash with Collingwood at the MCG. It was a real battle reminiscent of the good old days when the rivalry between the two clubs was at its height and a fitting contest to celebrate the 2025 Australian of the Year, Neale Daniher and his superb work to bring the campaign to raise funds for motor neurone disease awareness to the forefront. Notwithstanding the fact that the Magpies snatched a one point victory from his old club, Daniher would be proud of the fact that his Demons fought tooth and nail to win the keenly contested game in front of 77,761 fans.

  • POSTGAME: Collingwood

Despite effectively playing against four extra opponents, the Dees controlled much of the match. However, their inaccuracy in front of goal and inability to convert dominance in clearances and inside 50s ultimately cost them dearly, falling to a heartbreaking one-point loss on King’s Birthday.
