Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Getting in early given we don't play for another 12 days, but:

In: B Brown, Viney

Out: Weid, Sparrow

The poor performance is very little to do with player selection and a hell of a lot to do with application.

Agreed. Weid simply must go - another Barry Crocker today. BBB should be given the time to settle in to our structure ( though I'm not sure what that was today)

Viney in. Sparrow is the logical out but he will get more opportunities.

Melksham would have kept Maynard quiet today.

In: Melksham, B.Brown, Viney

Out: Weiderman, Sparrow, Chandler

we definitely missed someone with 'smarts' around half forward to kick it i50

i'mma second those changes, but it'll be interesting to see who would be the medi-sub...i suspect one of melksham or jordon, given that viney will start straight away as an inside mid option

Agree with all of the above. WE failed to lock the ball in our forward line which has been our strength. Pies cruised out the backline lowered their eyes and hit forward leading targets. Simple game plan

And yet we stood back and let it happen?

Goodwin sees this, so why the dosn't he do anything about it???

Do anything about what?

We got to 11-1 by implementing a gameplan and structure and following it. We're not about to throw the magnets around. He correctly put the onus on the players to right the ship, which they'd done vs Hawthorn and North, but this time it didn't happen. Not Goodwin's fault, and not lost at selection either.

Perhaps because he wasn’t playing. There is only so much he can do. Or are we back to “Is Goodwin the right guy?” even though we are still on top of the ladder.

Disagree on selection aspect

Why?

I'd have picked Brown over Weid the entire time but having backed him in and having beaten two top 4 sides in a row, we didn't miss a trick with selection this week.

Brown over Weid for some weeks now. Hubris carrying him this long. Compare to other flag favourites. Would Geelong carry someone with these numbers this long ? I haven’t consulted the stats so it’s possible other teams have carried KPFs but let’s not compare Weid to Riewoldt Cameron Lynch et al

It's not hubris.

The call that was wrong, IMO, was dropping Brown over Weideman when we did. Since then, Brown had one chance at Casey to get form back and didn't take it. Weideman did just enough to warrant further chances.

Whilst IMO Brown would have made a sizeable difference to how we moved the ball and what we did with it inside 50, reality is there was too much else wrong with us to win today.

I think hubris but I can see why there is a perception you give him a block of games (also keeping in mind BBB apparently in a 6 week fitness hardening block), but, given his form I think we’ve thought we can carry him. He wasn’t Robinson Crusoe today by any stretch .

In: Viney
Out: Weid

Under consideration: Brayshaw for Chandler or Jones.

Our forward line was better with the 1 tall forward and Jackson/Fritsch. Viney back means more Harmes and Petracca forward as well.

Brayshaw is so pitiful. Just miles off his man all game. Don't tell me it's structure either because JJ and Langdon manage to get on theirs (less so this week).  If a half back got caught up the ground he made no effort to cover back for them. His ball use is awful.

2 obvious ins and outs.

IN: VINEY, B.BROWN

OUT: SPARROW, WEIDEMAN

Weideman won't play a game for the rest of the season he's cooked. Time to let him go for a second rounder.

I don’t mind reverting back to a smaller forward line.  But I don’t know if Tmac and Fritsch provide enough scoring or contested marking power come finals.

We might be better off with one of Brown or Weid come finals, but I think it's clear Weid needs a spell and Brown can't come back in on no form or games.

Let's get our pressure game back on track then work out if we need the extra tall. There's still a long way left in the season

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
