We were off all game. Keen to get these ones out of system mid season and learn from it.

second to ball, outnumbered at contests, making silly errors.

anyone blaming individuals has no idea, the whole team blew this game

I'm not going to justify the way Weideman played today but our entire forward line was dysfunctional. It gave many memories of 2019, when we were dominating inside 50s but not taking any of our chances. Yes, Weideman needs to lift against Essendon if he keeps his spot but you can say the same about all the other forwards.

I will [censored] flip a lid if Weideman keeps his spot against Essendon. Surely not. He is OMac levels of bad.

Things are never as good or as bad as they seem. We looked flat and they were expectedly up and about. Rather than our midfield leaders fixing it with brilliant basics and hard defensive  work they attempted to play millionaire footy. Review that hard and call out everything that was wrong and then reset for a big second half of the season. Call out to Jackson who was immense. Look forward to seeing Benny Brown get a good run at it after the bye.

Compare this to Roos last game, or when we need to beat the pies to make finals on 2017.

I’m not sure what we stand for. Compare  us to the Essendon 2000 team, or the Lions or Geelong or Hawthorn in their pomp. We just don’t have “it”. Don’t know if we ever will

Forward line had their pants pulled down today.

[censored] calm down with the "good bye top 2 [censored]"

We are 11-2 still a game clear on top of the ladder at the half way point. We have shown up against our real tests.

We were off, super poor today. Credit to the pies, they played out of their skin for bucks and we just didn't match it today. Changes will be made, a rest will be had and we can attack the end of the season.

If we are really going to mope around and [censored] after every loss what's the point in being supporters. WE WONT WIN THEM ALL, WE WONT PERFORM AT 100% IN EVERY GAME.

Today was the pies grand final.

We will learn from this.

That stings.

The absolute arrogance of thinking we could carry Weid thinking he'd magically turn good .For all BBB does wrong there's one thing he does constantly and that's kick goals.

Two weeks to savour that performance now. [censored].

It wasn't the lack of goals as much as it was the lack of contest in the air. They dominated the air in our forward half.

Brown does two things: worries defenders, and kicks goals. Weid hasn't been doing enough of either of those.

I hate losing to the pies

Dreadfully disappointing performance. All down to the wrong attitude.

Adelaide should have been the wake up call. I hope we learn our lesson this time. You have to be switched on for every game from the get go

Gawn, Jackson, Salem and Jordon our best

Zero contribution from our forward line other than Spargs who did some good things

Big decision to be made about the Weid. He has had no impact.

Anyways. No need to slit our wrists just yet. We're 11-2 going into the bye which is a great position to be in. We have a lot to look forward to but we can’t afford these inexplicable lapses against weaker teams. Watching us play like this will embolden Essendon .

It’s hard not to be too reactive about this game, but in the cold hard light of day, that game was very instructive. We talk about culture a lot, and how it underpins the best teams, the premiership teams. I really hate to say it, but with all their board problems, list disasters, resigning coach and media hammering about them being a shambles, from 16th on the ladder against the ‘supposed’ premiership favourites, Collingwood have shown that they have something we don’t. At least at the moment. These are the games you win, for obvious ladder position reasons, but to show we ARE the real deal when outside distractions and expectation loads up. We kicked 9 goals. Based on today, in respect purely to premiership chances, we might just be pretenders. And I hate to say it even more, but it’s a very familiar tag and the reason this team don’t deserve our trust. Yet! They won’t have mine for the rest of the year. So much yet to earn.

Also I never want us to play at the SCG again outside of away games vs Sydney.

If it was our call to play the game at the SCG, it was a very bad call. Ground is way too small for us to open up teams with our run (though we would’ve lost by more today given our lack of effort).

Anyone watch the pies v crows game last week?

The way the pies played last week should have told us they were coming for us.

Exactly the same. Pressure, win the contest, quick hands or short kick and then a flat kick into a forward.

I thought the pies were great. Really disappointing that we didnt see it coming and have the boys fired up to respond early.

A bit of [censored] OUTING, but who really gives a [censored]? We've lost two games by a combined two goals against two of the bottom three teams, and struggled against the other. Supposedly that exposes us to other teams on how to beat us, but we've stood up against every genuine challenger. Move on. We're still the team to beat, by a fair margin. Go Dees.

16-6 will be enough for top 2. Teams below will take games off each other.

Well that was disappointing and the waste of an golden opportunity to consolidate at the top.

Imagine that is the end of Weideman for sometime, just cannot seem to impose himself when needed.

Hope that it is a long hard 2 weeks coming up.

Tony Lockett would not have got near it today the way it was coming in. No wonder Weid and Tmac were missing. The selfless game not there today.

Mismanaged the 10 day break maybe?

I know we are potting the Weed but he was playing on a ground that favours FF’s and on a dry day. No f……… excuse. The blokes heart is just not in it. Most of his efforts were at 50%.  He has had a fair go perhaps even more than he has deserved.  I’ve never been a fan but he has been very, very disappointing.

We're a game clear at the top of the ladder, we've beaten all the other contenders we've faced ... yet true to Demonland form, the sky is falling.

Pathetic.

Absolutely disgraceful!

We definitely drunk our own bath water before this game!

The Demons need to take a good hard look at themselves if we want to be serious Premiership contenders.

You don't lose games like this!

Collingwood definitely wanted to see Nathan Buckley off with a win for his last game.

Mostly disappointed we couldn't win the game for Neale Daniher. The players should be ashamed of themselves putting in such a flat passionless effort.

Plenty of learnings out of todays game.

1  Always take the $4.80 on offer as a saver.

2 Just because we never play for the coach doesn't mean the other side won't

3 Alway kick as close to the line as you can, Out on the full is still a stat

4 I still get [censored] off when we lose. Thats not a learning that's a fact.

Lol @ Weeds comparing himself to Pavlich in his early years.

Right now would prefer Omac up forward.

Weeds just doesn’t have it, can’t win any 1 on 1s and will lose to every AFL back men in the game.

There's no forgiving that loss to the lowly pies. There were some glaring issues. Picking and choosing when to turn up and play the "brand" doesn't bode well. The Hollywood football of petracca and Oliver. The shambolic forward line. I'm far from convinced about this team.

Ironically, Collingwood were very well coached today.
Clogged us up and cut out our run, spread better and prevented the switch, lowered their eyes and cut through our defense, maintained possession and cut out the contested ball.

Unlike the Adelaide match, where I think both teams played well, we were putrid today.  Collingwood played well, they stuck to their plan and their skills pressure were excellent.  We could have risen to match them, but we were too poor to do so.

Need a bye and a return to Victoria.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.
