She comes with a price tag but yes, it’s good to see some strong, confident decisions on both sides of the club.

she's only tier 3 in terms of her impact on the salary cap - $24k only

the rest of her money will be made up via marketing deals

she's currently the face of aflw, as well as on ads for colgate, four n twenty pies, and nab - so that's how she'll get to the $150k a season that she wanted i suppose

She’s a great player and I’m really happy she’s joined us (and Purcell is a great pickup too)

Great get.  Daisy is chuffed.  I remember her coming in 2nd (or thereabouts) in the Fox Footy kicking comp on the Yarra a few years back.   Think Clarry won that.

Importantly we now have a true forward, with Cunningham announcing her retirement as well.

We were desperate for someone to kick goals last year, and until they moved Daisy up forward we were struggling.

Interesting though why she wanted out of Carlton, given the amount of money she was on there.....and they are not a basketcase like Geelong.

Well this turned out to be a bit of a steal. I was concerned by what we'd have to give up for Tayla...as it turns out, nowhere as much as I'd thought. Sad to lose Emonson, but key forwards are at a premium. Not sure what's gone on at Carlton - perhaps they're trying to clear out before expansion and got too many players off side in the process?

The retirement of Cunningham also puts things in a different light for us. The thing about Tayla is, regardless of form, opposition coaches aren't going to underestimate her, which will give the likes of Bannan some more development time.

Seems genuinely excited. Her comments about her struggles during Covid certainly ring true and explain her poor form for Carlton last year. Massive stuff up by them letting her go but its our gain. If she works hard and gets back to close to her best she’ll be a serious weapon for us and give us that forward target we were crying out for last year.

Great to have you back Tayla. Can’t wait to see you running around in the red and blue.

After all the silly media, it's a great listen, 'Landers. Not the 'all-about-me' projected by the media; indeed, quite the opposite, it seems. 'Genuine' does seem to be the word, BDA. I love the connection to Daisy, and to Mick; I feel like 2021/22 is going to be like 1987 for the boys, Robbie and Swooper, but with the ultimate better ending! It's scary that she knows what affected her in recent seasons and has since made effective, relevant life changes. And she's doing skill sessions for the first time!

I was amazed when the article stated she is only 24!

She was starring in the exhibition games all those years ago, and one would think she still has many years left.  Her skills don't disappear, and her abilities overhead and long kicking capabilities are extremely rare in the AFLW world.

Will be a genuine target up front which we have lacked, and in tandem with Daisy will allow the likes of Bannan to develop without the pressure of taking experienced defenders.

If she is 100% committed to being the best player she can be and has a good run with injuries we may have the missing link between finals and a flag. The single truly elite kick in the Womens game, tough as hell and a great pair of hands. Exactly what we need up forward.

Wrapped to have her on board.

Mr Fawlty, Meggs is also ‘rapt’ to have Tayla on board, in raptures you might say.  Where is @Demonstone?

Her marking strength and long kicks will definitely impact our scoring potential.
Dees are setting up for for big season I reckon.

Unfortunately TAYLA missed the 2024 season but remains a strong player with skill, athleticism, long kick and competitive nature.  As a key forward , there is not many better than our TAYLA

Whilst she had been reportedly seeking a trade to the Hawks, I would like to see her stay at the Dees. We have young talls but there definitely remains a place for Harris in our best 21.

I read that the Demons have now officially offered Harris a contract extension to remain at the club, after the Hawks' involvement in the multi-club trade stalled and then fell over late last week

Love to see her stay on 'norm'...could imagine her running off CHB, what an intercept mark she would be and blasting the ball forward.

Haw originally refused to include pick 14 in any deal. They now have an additional 2nd round pick at 22 to go along with 28.

A deal along the line of 14 and 22(28) for Harris and 20 may temp the hawks???

At the risk of upsetting her many, deserved, fans I have to admit I'm ambivalent about Tayla leaving.

If we can get overs in a trade I have to say I'd be tempted to take it.

She is an excellent player, though i think somewhat over rated, and super exciting when on, but I don't think she's ever got fit enough with us.

Which really reduces options if she is being double teamed, as is often the case, as a key forward.

And at the risk of being unfair I wondered if her sub optimal fitness  was a factor in her injury in the first game of last season (she looked completely cooked early on in that game), particularly given her choice to go to the Olympics as a red bull ambassador rather than a full preseason.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
