  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

What they're saying down at Barkly Street

Their analysis

  • English means May and Lever must play a more accountable style imho. That’s good for us.
  • The 3 headed monster is going to be hard for Melbourne to defend. Lever and May defend as a pair, and that is not going to work against a 3 pronged forward line.

Their humour

  • I'm just worried some Demon forward will yell out "leave it for Bailey!" and Cordy will duck the spoil thinking Williams or Dale will waltz out with the ball. Meanwhile Fritsch gets an uncontested possession and strolls into an open goal.
  • Could this be first game in history that 4 Baileys have played?
  • Bruce and Naughton 1 and 2 in the Coleman by the end of the night.
  • Canines Outstanding Victory Inflicted on Demons.

Their anxiety

  • I don't think Dale will handle a tag well.
  • Gawn will trouble us, Lever will trouble us, probably more than May.
  • No point tagging Oliver, just have libba go h2h.
  • Worried about what Gawn could do to Sweet as well as thinking one of Pickett/McDonald/Fritsh might kick a bag.
  • I reckon the midfield battle will be pretty even and both teams will get enough looks inside 50.
  • What will decide the game will be who is more efficient when they go forward. If we put the ball down May's and Lever's throats we will lose.
  • Spewing Salem got up.
  • I’m loving Sweet but Gawn is a whole different level with his play around the ground.
  • English is only really a second ruck and won’t help the centre bounce cause as much as he will be a huge help up forward or preferably down back intercepting.
  • I wonder a little about Josh Bruce too, I still remember last season.
  • Melbourne has the only midfield in the league that worries me with us at full strength. Now there's is simply better without Treloar.

Their decency

  • Great team the D’s but we are on a better roll right now. Go Dogs!
  • I'm sure Gawn will comfortably win the hit out stats but I'm also pretty sure Sweet's instruction is to help win the clearance not the hit out.
  • Felt like yesterday we debating who the best player in the league was, Whitten or Barassi, now it’s Bont vs Petracca.
  • Biggest game between our clubs since the 54 Grand Final. Disappointing we can’t attend but i think this could be the first of quite a few big games between us over the next few years, tonight is all about getting early bragging rights.
  • Petracca has had a great 18 months before that he was all talent not much application. Hats off to him putting in the hard yards and building his tank for longer stints in the middle. His still got to keep up this level of performance for a few years yet to catch up to bont who has been consist for 4+ years.
  • Four of the top five Brownlow favourites in this game.
  • I’m not stating that we will beat Melbourne, but there is no doubt we can beat quality opposition.
  • Melbourne are a quality side and will be top 4 this year.
  • This is a 50/50 game in my view.

Their madness

  • Dees are a Max Gawn injury away from being average again but ride the wave while it’s lasts. I don’t expect long term success out of Melbourne myself but time will tell. This is there year if it happens.

Quite correct BBO and supported by the last quote; "Dees are a Max Gawn injury away from being average again but ride the wave while it’s lasts. I don’t expect long term success out of Melbourne myself but time will tell. This is there year if it happens."

Fair and balanced comments.

The common theme about these threads every week is the esteem that rival supporters have for Maxy. He gets more mentions and respect than any other Dees player.

Which is weird because he’s well down on his normal output in my opinion.

Excuse me: when the Fairsee dumped us in Port Melbourne in July 1956, we were driven to the scotch-thistle paddocks, the unmade roads, the Friday Dunny can man land called North Sunshine. I was expected to barrack for Footscray: I chose Melbourne. However, I wish to point out not every Western Suburber was an illiterate Lumpen Prol. My father introduced me to Schubert, Haydn and Beethoven. In his last years he never left our humble house in North Box Hill unless he had a Patrick White novel or some such writer in his clutches.

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
