Latest entrant: Stephen Coniglio

This one looks particularly painful:

Must be doing an apprenticeship under tackling coach Jack. Here's to a long career of opposition punishment! ?

Not sure we should be celebrating an injury.

Weller took Viney on, that's what made that fun. Coniglio is just trying to evade Sparrow. Still it was a great chase and effort.

Sparrow made Derm cry after he stood up for James Jordon getting a late whack in the head. I liked that. It was completely different to the push and shove after a player makes a mistake which I don't like

And how that wasn’t then a free kick to Frittata baffles me, in absolutely no way did the GWS defender spoil him legally.

Was the perfect end to end play, ruined by (consistently) awful umpiring.

I hope Goody and co highlight this passage of play with a pat on the shoulder to Sparrow.

The 1%er. Don’t feel like I’ve seen enough of that in recent years. I hope the young fella gets called out when the team review the game

Yep. Derm seemed to totally misread his actions in standing up for Jordan. That said, the commentating was fairly ordinary generally anyway.

I thought this thread was going to be a satire response to everyone's calls to drop him for Melksham who has the turning speed of the Evergreen.

Yeah and of all people to make comments like that. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black.

I'd give anything for him to drive Selwood right into the ground like he did with Coniglio.

And how in any reasonable world was that not holding the ball??

Great shepherd!

Hate the end of that video though. Fritsch gets an arm chop, a punch in the head and a push in the back all in one swift motion... PLAY ON

2 of the umps through no fault of their own aren't within a mile of the play and the 3rd ump is still a fair way off the ball and partially obscured by Giants players running back. The speed with which players move these days probably does require a 4th umpire for this type of scenario.

Don't worry about Selwood. All he will get is a free kick. It's that bloody Guthrie we have to pay attention to.

That was an excellent shepherd for Hunt and completely opened up the corridor form him.

Mark Williams said he was very impressed by our young midfielders and the sacrificial role they play for team.  If he keeps up those 1%ers, he’ll play more games than he misses.

It’s possible a 4th Umpire is already involved, someone sitting in a booth watching a screen. Just my opinion but it would explain why there is sometimes a pause of 2 or 3 seconds before a free kick is paid. Has been happening for a couple of years, maybe only 1 or 2 a game though.

Also, re. the 2 video clips shown, both should have been frees, Sparrow, holding the ball and Fritsch, interference in the marking contest. Evidence that the umpiring on the night was poor, particularly No.22 Nathan Williamson, with MFC being hard done by.

He's doing a great job for us at the moment. Loved the way he took his goal against st kilda as well. Calm and composed

No way he loses his spot anytime soon

p.s hopefully Coniglio recovers quickly. He has no luck with injuries.

The Shepherd for Hunt ,whilst good and very effective is just sometthing that should be happening evrywhere, every game,by every player.

It's not soimething we should be celebrating but something we should just expect to happen.

Takes very little skill and does a lot to win games.

I know this is a thread about Tom Sparrow (or Tom Barrow according to the Herald Sun) but in response to the criticism of the umpires in this thread, I'd just like to say that I thought the standard of umpiring was pretty good. In fact, and not just in our games (where umpiring always seems better when you win), but across the board I think umpiring has been better this year. Perhaps it's the generally free flowing games. Maybe less congestion removes the umpires from being so noticeable.

I am a fan ofthis kid. Many of DLs have wanted him dropped this year. I thought his second quarter was reallyimpressive.
1. Clean hands in grabbing the ball to Jones who passed to Jackson for a goal.

2 Stopped a GWS thrust in the middle of the ground

3 Nice pass to Fritsch who goaled.

4 Tackle on GWS captian.

will be a good player for us.

As others have already stated - this was a rubbish call by Derm. If Sparrow didn’t stand up for Jordon in that instant you just know Derm would be the first to bag him out for not “flying the flag” and looking out for his teammates.

What the hell was dermie rabbiting on about with that.

Great response from spazza. As if dermi would have let a teammate get a wack in rhe head and not remonstrate.

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
