Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Farewell Sam Weideman

The reason he didn't get tried back is he would need to be able to take an intercept mark and that is unlikely.

Because he can’t read the play?

Go well Weids.

I'm probably more disappointed in losing Weideman then I was with Jackson.

I think as supporters we've been far more emotionally  invested with Weids. We've all wanted him to make it but at times been extremely frustrated with his on field performance.

I think a fresh start will do him well and he's been super gracious his whole career especially this year and last year.

All the best.

Fair summation.

I think Sam is his own worst enemy. For some time now, it’s been apparent in his body language that he’s not had the confidence to play to the best of his abilities. There’s always been an observable tentativeness in his contested marks and disposals. I genuinely believe he never mentally recovered from his missed kick after the siren in ‘19 against the Crows. He played a great game that night, and didn’t deserve to made the scapegoat by the press, who cruelly focussed on him sobbing in the change rooms (and mind you, as an inset in the corner of the screen as the Crows we’re about to sing their song - a disgusting bit of direction that I wouldn’t even wish on Toby Greene).

That kind of thing can be extremely damaging for a young player.

I wish him every success, and I hope a clean slate does what’s needed for him.

I thought Weid attacked the game and opposition players with more gusto when he had some time down back. In the Casey games, his ruck work was good.

Not so much in reading the play, as he was always there about, but his timing (judging were the ball drop is) and double grabs were his weakness.

Given plenty of opportunities in the MFC team, but couldn't grasp, because of inconsistency.

I think he will do well changing teams and having a clean slate.

Fairly sure our selection policy is garbage.   Simon has to learn to make changes week to week and within games.

Got great confidence in our list managers, not so much on the coaching front. As a team we show little flexibility or flare, i think a lot of that is down to coaching/game plan.

Most coaches currently would do great with the talent on our list.

Supporters are not aware of our list needs?  Would actually question this, many here seem to have a good grasp on our needs when it comes to the types of players we require.

I didnt say our supporters are not aware of our list needs, just that our list managers are aware of our needs more so than us.The coaching is another kettle of fish.Won a GF last year thats hard to fault, but agree there does seem to a problem at the top end

I’d be hoping we can get 37 if we throw in 54 with Weid. Pick 37 will go in Davey bid match anyway, but could get as high as 32 or 33 after Brisbane match bids.

Bang on

37 will go out 3 for Ashcroft, Davey and Fletcher but then come in 3 for 34, 35 and 36 used on Ashcroft. In other words it will just end up where it is at this stage

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
