Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Seemingly every AFL player watches the NBA.

And seemingly every NBA player who is on a bad team likes to jump off as soon as they can  - contract or no contract - and get to a good team.

Guys are now getting paid enough that whether it's as free agents or pre-agents (the year prior or maybe even 2 years prior) they will start pushing for trades if their club doesn't have a path to success.

One look at the B+F results tells us our best 12 players are in their premiership window.  After that the votes drop away to a few almost players in Melk, Vanders and Tomlinson. Almost good, almost not worthy of games. And 3 kids in their first season.

If I were a top player I'd be sending out a pretty strong message - let's build up this playing like with trades/draft/development/coaching etc because we've got the core of guys in their prime. And we better start doing something with it and soon otherwise it's wasting the best years.

I posted this a couple of weeks ago as I got told the same thing about a couple of the players mentioned.

It won’t happen as they are contracted but something that needs to be addressed.

In fairness Trac was unsure about signing last year and ended up signing for 2 more years. So players can be turned around.

Yeah look i must admit watching the BnF tonight, you couldnt find a more flat and unhappy looking bunch of blokes..

Something doesn't feel right...

Could just be they’ve botched a huge opportunity to play finals, despite working their arses off, and that disappointment is only 3 days old

This is what happens when as a club you consistently miss finals and under achieve, the added bonus of having a coach not up to scratch. If I was Oliver I would be seriously thinking about my future too and if I was another club I would be doing everything possible to get Oliver out of Melbourne.

I thought the same, Daz - but could be for a number of reasons:

1. BNF assembled quickly and held during the day, after exit interviews - no atmosphere.

2. Boys genuinely p!ssed off after season fizzled out.

3. Something is up.

Perty was doing his salesman act, but it looked like a place where [censored] had gone down moments before - maybe big clear out of coaching staff, as others have alluded to?

it may have something to do with the fact they've missed finals and haven't been home for like 3 months.

So we enter the next phase of Goodwins tenure. One I and other predicted on here and were scoffed at. Players wanting out. And star players at that. So naive to think players dont watch other Clubs, other coaches, notice their facilities and crowds when they are at an underperforming Club. It is no surprise it is the top players, Trac, Oliver and co, they play as a little team within a team and show little interest in moving the ball to others outside their group on most occasions.

That is exactly my take on it HFF

I would be pretty angry having to be coached and demotivated by Goodwin

Why should any capable, sought after, ambition footballer hang around Melbourne in the hope that the club will become successful. In a short career we’ve just wasted 2 years of their time. We’re a middling, mid ranked club. Our coach is second rate. We’ve completely and utterly failed to build on our great run to the prelim in 2018 (it was a fluke, a mirage). All the momentum from that run was killed stone dead by the abomination that was 2019.

Some improvement this year but nothing to suggest we’re building something lasting. Nothing to suggest we’re building towards a flag or top 4. Seriously, who here is confident we’ll even play finals next year.

If I’m Jack Viney, I’m seriously considering Geelong’s offer. He’s done his bit for this club. Go play for a team that offers finals footy, a great lifestyle for his young family in a footy mad town. I wouldn’t blame him if he decides to go.

Oliver. He could play in midfield for Richmond or another top club. I think he’d be mad to sign a new contract with us this off season.

If the club are serious about success they would bring in a new coach to bring instil some hope and optimism into this group of players. Player retention – another reason to get rid of Goodwin.

While I totally understand everyone’s emotions on the issue, and I would be devastated to lose any of our top players, some people need to take a few breaths.

Every player on every team would be thinking about staying or leaving their own clubs multiple times. Leaving a ooor club for success, leaving for more money, more opportunities, family, friends, unhappy with the coach, club etc. There are so many reasons.

But, they would also know leaving would not guarantee anything, other than the money.

I don’t see Oliver leaving now, possibly in another 2-3 years if things don’t turn around, but not now. I think he and the other top end see our list potential, and from my source, the younger group love playing together.

Getting rid of Goodwin might be a solution for some of you, but I would be waiting for one more year if I was in charge. I would give him the chance of another full and hopefully proper season to do something, with some different helpers and Burgess.

Only change I would make would be if someone like Clarkson, and probably only Clarkson became available. Other choices of a new young coach or Ross Lyon do nothing for me, and I would think wouldn’t do much for the players who some people think are not happy and want to leave (after a statement from a bottom feeding media type)

You slightly miss the point. The reason Goody is staying is that he has a contract. One that was extended on a whim. The players see that and must wonder what is going on too. Why are you confident Oliver wont leave for another 2-3 years and even then only if things dont turn around? i would like to know Y.  It is only rumour at this stage but I pose this question.

Give Goodwin another chance? Almost threw my phone against the wall reading this. He should've been sacked at the end of last year. Yes, we had injuries but going frkm 4th to 17th is a sackable offence. If his contract is too big then fine, wait 1 season. That season has happened (this year) and we haven't seen any improvement. Our losses were horrendous this year and anyone who has played any sport at any level can look at Goodwin and tell you that he isnt the sort of coach that would motivate you to play.  Must be sacked ASAP.

How are we going to improve next season? Will Goodwin come up with a magical game plan that no other coaches have thought of? No. Do we have any good draft picks coming in that can instill a fresh, exciting aura? No. Will we get more injuries next season? Most likely.  Will we have a key forward? No. Will we still have a slow midfield? Yes.

I’m anti-Goodwin - but the PLAYERS are PRO Goodwin so anyone suggesting tossing Goody is misguided if they expect a player group to be excited about it!!! My view is, instead of seeing themselves as part of the problem like they should, and look to do whatever they can to Improve - whining and sooking by leaking this type of tripe to media is just weak minded BS that epitomises WHY we missed finals.

we need a fwd, outside 2way run and polish, get that and get players who are committed and enjoy another Burgess pre season and we should be fine. But yes, Goodwin is rightly under pressure and would be gone if out of contract but that doesn’t mean he can’t recover.

Right, so you're implying that Petracca wants to be traded. There are five guys contracted to 2022 (ie two years left on the contract) and only one of them is represented by D'Orazio.

What I’m stating is that I’ve been told by an impeccable source that Petracca phoned his Manager and asked, if his Manager thought it would it be possible to get a deal done. His Manager shot the idea down as being totally impossible.
Now, this may have been a spontaneous call from a highly emotional and at times immature young man, however, I believe it happened and if it did, it demands an immediate inquiry.
TBH, my sense of this being true is so strong, that if I had Pert or Bartlett’s numbers, I would have contacted them to at least get them to investigate directly with the source.

If we lost either Petracca or Oliver and Goodwin stayed.  We would have very few members next year.  i for one would flip out.

If we renew Viney for 5 years i would also be really unhappy.  He would be 32 and there is zero guarantee he will ever do the team things  like dishing the ball off to a player with red and blue.  Effort is there but he shows very little footy intellect.

Teams come knocking for Clayton every year, last time he was OOC North offered him a huge deal and he didn't even really consider it apparently.

I think the frustration with the players is real though, i've heard that a few of our really important players are asking questions of the club about it's direction.

I've always heard Goody isn't as well liked as it seems on the outside so could be really interesting times ahead.

If I'm in governance, I'm worried about risk here - balancing the risk of losing players vs the coach (if that is indeed an issue).

I'm sure someone here can give you Pert's direct email. Let me know if you need it, in case you don't have it.

So your 'impeccable' source  starts leaking his info to a bloke who posts it on a supporters blog site.

Give me a break.

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
