Wid gets another go, Salem?

Weid gets another go, he has done OK and unless you want to give Bradtke a run, I think he is our only option there at the moment.  I thought Salem did OK, and gets to keep his spot (not great, but OK)

Wagner did his job last week and did his job this week. He's frustrating because he always makes a few head scratching mistakes but overall he's solid enough.

Smith kept Papley very quiet. Did a few bad things and has to get more involved in the game but when Smith was on him Papley had 1 behind which was a top from 55.

If you said Papley was held to 2 behinds you'd be pretty happy.

I struggle to understand whether we play a zone defence or not. If we do so, then was it Smith specifically that kept Papely quiet? It seems to me that stating that a particular defender was accountable for the performance of a specific forward runs counter to the argument that we play zone defence. So, which is it? Do we play zone defence or not? (That's a question for anyone, not just you DS, although I respect your opinion on the subject).

Out: OMac, Smith, Jones, Melksham, Fritsch, Weid

In: Hibberd, Lockhart,  Baker, Pickett, Bennell, TMac

Give us run and some fresh legs please and finally accept that Oscar and Jones should have just played their last game.

Weed??? The bloke had 1 bad game and had to fly against 3/4 players all night.

It's now becoming a question of which players are in our future. Lockhart straight in, Baker? Why not, let's see what he can do. Bennell? Honestly don't see how it can hurt, how much less intense could he really be than our other guys. Give him a chance to stick it up the old mob.

But that's how I will be thinking from here on out. Do we want to get game time into guys in our future plans or do we want to play the Joel Smiths and the Wagners who might do a nice job that helps us win a game but may not be in the long range approach.

Basically if we're going to miss the 8 I'd rather take some small positive out of it than zero development.

Looking at Jones despondent on the bench after his injury, I was more angry than sympathetic that he played at all given his quad injury a couple of weeks back.

I hope it was all above board and thoroughly tested before picking him, rather than taking his word for it and then him playing dodgy in the hope of making 300 games (a la Viney a couple of years back).

Classic question?  Did anyone note one of the commentators aying how Sydney at time were playing a tight man on man deep and it loosens up as they move forward with trying to get it into their runners hands by the centreline.

Agree with this. No excuse for that performance, not even a virus. They actually looked worse than some of North's performances.

I feel like something is in the wind and folk should smell it as well as me.

Three wins will not cut it. It is time for a team lobotomy .

Agreed he gets another for sure. I was dissappointed he and melksham laid zero tackles though. When your struggling to impact  tackling is what you start with.

Come  on  no point thinking who to play it is simple .There are some players who are not up to AFL  standard and  the team that we are fielding at the moment cannot carry them .  Wagner and Smith go out to pasture and  Nathan Jones injured has to think about retiring also at the end of the season.

Need some speed in Baker Hannan and Kossi .     Vanders for some missing grunt for ABN.

Actually, I thought ANB provided more grunt yesterday than vandenBerg has provided at any time this year.

Did quad  a week ago, but bandage was on his hammy late in game, so seems like a different injury.

What worries me about the Weid is his lack of endeavour. Whilst the ball is not coming in well you can still chase, harass and tackle. He did none of these. Him and Fritter just hang an arm out and let the oppo just walz past them. Throw Melk in that also.

We MAY have one of the best backlines going around once Hibbo/Lockhart are back and No-Mac/Smith both out.  But that forward line...sheez it's a bloody stinker (Kozzy excluded being a rookie and he at least puts some pressure on even then)!

And that's what it mostly comes down to folks.  Can't score....can't defend with ball on ground / in dispute.  Opp just put a bit of speed down back and waltz it out with ease.  We would have to be one of the easiest teams to defend up forward and one of the easiest to rebound off 50.

Out:  Plapp (or whoever the hell isn't teaching them!)

In:  A star ex forward who can teach these blokes some forward craft both offensively and defensively.

What a bloody rabble.   Unless it's given to them on a stick and most rely on others up the field to kick the goals for them.  There's the odd cameo here, the odd goal or two there, the odd tackle here, the odd bit of pressure there, the odd connection or two from Melk coming inside 50 once in a while.

And we call ourselves an AFL team?  Laughing stock more like it.

Put May up there if and see if that works FCS.  Tomlinson to cover his role for the remainder of the year.  Try something as it's a shambles as it now stands with no structure, no method and no consistency.

Rant not over!

Your opinion.  Who has grunt ABN or VDB  Leave it to you.

As for Smith it is not a popularity contest.    if you think he played a good game and kept him quiet did  tackle Papley with 2 good ones in the last quarter.,game was over by then.  Papley led him to the ball anyway maybe he learnt something there. What do you think?

Smith did not start on him and played on him mainly in the last quarter.

Do you think that Smith's 4 possessions for the game was enough?  One kick and 3 handballs  and all ineffective !

Come on  LDvC  it is not a Popularity contest he just does not cut it FULL STOP.! Hasn't the talent.

In fact he has not got the basics for Auskick.

Thanks for reading my post now watch the game and look for Smith and  CRINGE...... Don't forget l told you so.

Totally justifiable rant. Brereton repeatedly commented on the lack of cohesion and craft in the forward line.

In fairness, it looked like it was starting to click with Jacko in there but since he’s gone out it’s returned to its standard repugnant self. A standout performance from Trac is what dragged us across the line last week. We cant be relying on that going forward. There are obvious concerns with delivery but the forward line has been a proper stinker for a long time. At least T Mac isn’t there to rub salt in the wound.

I’m now also of the opinion that we can’t afford to play both Fritta and Melksham. Not a defensive bone between them. I’d probably keep Fritta of the two.

A new forward coach sounds good to me. At this point it can’t hurt.

As a lot of the side seem to average one good game in every four perhaps we could get Burgo to work out a system that can calculate when each would be at their most, ahem...'fertile'. It beats throwing darts blindfolded.

Smith looked out of place. You can see he doesn’t have a football brain with the clumsy decisions he makes. I saw Papley nowhere near him on a few occasions so Papley’s stats aren’t a reflection of Smith’s game imo.

Throw him forward if need be and let him use his spring and natural inclination to attack the ball, but as a defender he just looked to be in the way.

Fckd if I know.  Only the devil knows what masterstroke Goodwin will come up with at selection.  No doubt he'll overthink it.  Either way it has to be that Omac never plays again.  He is absolutely the worst footballer I have ever seen in the afl.  Perhaps in any level of football.  No joke, he offers nothing.  Slow in action, slow to respond, timing is mostly appalling.  He is just slow.

Jones brain fades the week earlier were not as bad as his decision making in quarter 2 yesterday.  To use his non preferred to enter into fifty when these were scarce anyways was unforgivable.  To use his left again for a short dinky pass when he was in range just mindboggling.  His body language is atrocious.  I blame goodwin for this as well.  He has [censored] him up.

Viney is just dumb.  Has to get out of the midfield.  He'll just be dumb wherever you put him.  But then again, he has no right side ability whatsoever.  Harmes is lost.  That unwillingness to run through the middle summed that up.

These blokes are tired of Goodwin.  There is no love for the guy.  Its friggin obvious.  He has no rapport with them down on the bench (when he is there).  Very little support for him comes out any of their mouths for him now as well apart from the standard bullshid that any young player will offer up about a coach.

I dont have a clue.  Don't even care.  We just need some matchwinners in the next 3 consecutive games.  We need to get lucky.  It has come down to that.

Where in god's name is Bennell and farmer.  Is Nev really that bad.

And ANB can pack his bags as well.  He is, always has been, always will be, just an average player.  He does nothing. How embarrasssing.

We have to get lucky Demonlanders.  How desperate and sad.

But I'm not gonna say we are joke of a club.  We just need an experienced coach.  Not some impressive power pointing presenting , new age, wokish, inexperienced first year coach.  A coach that keeps it bloody simple.  Its a ridiculously overthought game these days, particularly by the likes of blokes like Goodwin.  From his selection to his game day tactics (or lack of) to his lack of emotion shown, his lack of animation in the coaching box, his appointment of a failed coach as his assistant.  He takes one step forward, and three back.

Rant over.  Sorry

Don’t be sorry. I thought that was actually pretty good, and very accurate

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full
