Theyre gunning for pick 1, so they may not go that hard.  I hope they do though, I dont want any gift games.

There is no chance they finish below Adelaide, who will also have pick 2 as Crouch compo.

Who is going to pay that much for Crouch he is a spud?

Better to pick fresh players off a four day break IMO. This was my view before the Port match and that only confirmed it.

Rivers, Pickett (if fit) and Hannan should all come in. TMac or Preuss as well if Gawn doesn't come up. Oscar should be considered as an option as well (moving Tomlinson into the midfield if he comes up). Hunt and Jetta are options.

ANB will get suspended unfortunately. And Bennell should be rested for the Collingwood game.

Our only irreplaceable are Gawn, Petracca, Oliver, Viney, Langdon and May.

Hell, no - no OMac

Out: a managed Gawn and Bennell

In: Hannan, Rivers, Hunt, Preusse (the latter if ANB is suspended)

Rucks: Jackson, Preusse, Tomlinson, Weideman (on rotation, zonal duties)

  • Hunt to wing when Tomlinson rucks
  • Hannan stays HFF for Bennell
  • Rivers big-time half-back flank opportunity
  • May CHB, Lever FB (both on rotation)
  • Salem HBF on bench

AVB has been cleared of bone damage, however, that head clash early in the first quarter required 15 stitches above the eye on the same side as the cheekbone damage.  Unbelievably tough.

AVB is fair dinkum. He is already an icon. He'll be up for next week, coz he was out for so long. He makes our team accountable and straightens us up. Even Taylor Walker (who thinks he's tough with little guys) side-stepped and got out of the heat. All AVB was doing was walking past, silently. We love that contribution. For some of us, it is like having both Ray Biffen and Rod Grinter in the team.

AVB is such a warrior for us. It feels  hes played 200 games but hes played just 40!

Why does Bennell have to be rested? He was rested against Port. Time to see what he can produce he doesn't need to be rested every second game. Can't see why Rivers should play we have enough backs. Pickett should come in but Hannan should find form first before he comes in. I think it's time to drop clanger king Jones for a player who can kick and that is to debut Jordon they are the only 2 changes I would make.

B: LOCKHART, MAY, LEVER

HB: HIBBERD, TOMLINSON, HARMES

C : LANGDON, PETRACCA, SALEM

HF: PICKETT, JACKSON, BENNELL

FOLL: GAWN, OLIVER, VINEY

IC: BRAYSHAW, VANDENBERG, SPARROW, JORDON

Even if not injured, you have to seriously consider dropping vandenBerg after that game.

Some absolute brain fades, some horrible disposal.

6 disposals, 2 tackles.

4 of his disposals were turnovers. 4. Out of 6.

And Free Kick Against total?

Bennell clearly still needs to be managed given his history. Another calf and its back to square one.

My view is that picking the best 22 every week in this compressed stretch of games is short-sighted. We are better off having fresh players so that our pressure game holds up. If it doesn't we don't have the skill level to win. As I said in my original post, only Gawn, Petracca, Oliver, Viney, Langdon and May are irreplaceable and I think our depth is decent.

Maybe.

But to be honest his kicking was no worse than it usually is.

He looks like a butcher. Appropriate given how badly he butchers the ball every time he plays

Presumably Pickett gets ANB's spot. if vandenBerg is injured, I'd get Hannan back in, as I don't think he should have been dropped.

I'm not sold, at all, on Jones and wouldn't be against bringing someone fresh into the side to help with the four day break.

Yeah OK we get it, you don't like Tomlinson.

But much to your dismay, he was actually good last night, and I'm not sure Oscar will do any better on the "big aerial threats" of Larkey, Walker or Daw than Tomlinson will.

Tomlinson was asked to play a role, he played it well (no idea how you can be so confident that the reasons for moving him are limited to getting UPs and kicking from the backline - maybe it was just to play Oscar's role without the clangers?), and he deserves to hold his spot for at least one more week.

Was he good? He didn’t win the ball back, he mostly just existed against Adelaide’s crappy forwards and got a few uncontested touches.

AFL player ratings had him worst on ground for us.

I don’t have any faith in Tomlinson as a key defender, it’s just not his go. Where as Oscar has done the job on Day and Mitch Lewis. When Oscar has the right match up and is running on top of the ground he looks and plays like a proper tall defender. I’d be proactive and put him back in rather than waiting for Tomlinson to fail.

AVB received a big head knock early in the game. Was lucky not to be concussed or to have broken something. Could explain his fumbling, but he's never really been a slick ball handler.

And should add that he wasn't alone, particularly in the first three quarters. For example, Langdon fumbled all night, although gets credit for being where the ball was so often at both ends of the ground.

Oscar has been awful the last 2 weeks give Tomlinson a break he WAS good against the Crows. Player ratings are nothing.

Out:  ANB - he's no good.  makes zero impact.  but he'll be suspended anyway because he is also a dumb shid.

In: Hannan or Pickett

Max has to play.  We need this win.  He'll be right.

Bennell has to stay in as well because he is a class footballer and we have F.A of them.

And wtf is the difference between managed and rested?  FMD.  Its just another phrase coaches are using to make them sound sophisticated.  Goodwin loves making it all sound more complicated than it is.  He managed Bennell a couple of weeks ago Goodwin and 'managed' to f things up!  Keep it simple coaches.  Pick your most talented players.  We aren't good enough to be doing otherwise.

Is Vandenberg hurt or not?

Don't know what games you're watching but Oscar has been good this year.  No defender is going to look good with the way the team played v Port.

Oscar is never going to be a star - all he has to do is his role.  We have May, Lever, Hibberd, Salem and co to do the attacking things.

He got dropped for a reason so I don't know what you are watching. He's been average at best he's put in 2 shockers the reason why he's not in the side and 3 good games. He was good against West Coast but they preferred Smith which was in the end the wrong choice. Came back against the Suns and played well as he did the next week against the Hawks but he only has himself to blame for the last 2 weeks as he was terrible. Tomlinson deserves his spot and I hope hew keeps it because I don't rate Oscar one bit.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
