Looking at how much time will have passed between the Hawks game and the Adelaide game I'm really hoping that at least Bennell will be ok to return. If he is then I think Jones comes out, sad to say but he just doesn't seem to add anything.ย

The experiment of 3 talls may have worked with different players, if they are keen to try it again don't do it with TMac. He may be dropped for Brown,ย or perhaps Tomlinson to take us back down to 2 talls and Tomlinson brings back some outside run. Tomlinson could also potentially even fit into a 3 tall system with him being more mobile.

If AvB is ok to play, perhaps give Kozzie a spell for both management and a poor game. But he was not alone in the last part.

I'd look at dropping one of Sparrow or Lockhart for Rivers as well. So my changes would look something like:

Out: Jones, Kozzie, Lockhart, TMac
In: Bennell, AvB, Rivers, Tomlinson/Brown

EDIT// If AvB still needs time to recover then I say give Nibbler a chance.

Lockhart is not getting dropped. He is one of the few that had a crack tonight.

ย

OUT: jones, harmes, brayshaw, hannan, t mac
IN: bennell, tomlinson, avb, anb, jetta

sparrow to roll through the midfield again in place of brayshaw's rotation

B: Lockhart - May - Lever
HB: Salem - O Mac - Hibberd
C : Langdon - Petracca - Tomlinson
HF: Melksham - Jackson - Bennell
F: Fritsch - Weideman - ANB
Foll: Gawn - Oliver - Viney
I/c: AVB - Sparrow - Pickett - Jettaย

we're not making finals, but we've got to get thru this 'hub' period but i would expect we will see something more from rivers andย jordan debuting some time soon

Yes. I agree.ย
ย

outs. Harmes Salem Brayshaw Jones Tmcd Hannan

ins. Rivers Jordon Vdberg Brown Tomlinson cwagnerย

itโ€™s that desperate. ย I want blokes that will show some commitment. Not short steps and half tackles.ย

I think it might be time to try Tomlinson as a defender.

I'm not sold on OMac...

Just happy i got on Adelaide before last nights shellacking

wont get those odds again

Dropping some players might make a small, one off statement, but as has been the case for 18 months, it's not going to fix us.

Only proper change across our coaches and players, will fix us.

ย

Agree. We can move players in and out but its a systematic problem.

I could only watch a few minutes last night and the very first thing I saw was Viney running out of centre and doing a long bomb into the forward 50, head down. Marked by Port defender of course.

This is system ย and strategyย  issueย starting with coaching.

Don't fix that and nothing changes

Pickett,ย Hannan, Jones should be dropped/rested/managed.

Harmes and Brayshaw have had a few poor games now and both should be rested, but if the three abovenamed go out, perhaps they gate another chance. It would help if they played in their natural positions.

I would bring in Tomlinson, because he is our best second wingman. It didn't work with any of Harmes, Jones, Brayshaw last year and, not surprisingly, not working with them this year.

If he's ready, vandenBerg should return.ย ย

Rivers or Hunt (even though he hasn't played as a defender for a while) should take the 7th defensive spot instead of Harmes, who should go onball with ocassional visits forward.

So, Ins: Tomlinson, vandenBerg and Rivers/Hunt

Outs: Pickett, Hannan, Jones.

ย

Well, that game has put us back so much.

So incredibly hard to watch till the end.

Was it the four day break? Was it we just not turn on at the required level (which happens to all teams at some stage)? Or maybe, we are just not that good

No need for knee jerk action

I would drop Kossie and Jackson โ€“ they have had a taste โ€“ let their bodies now mature and get hard

To me (and what would I know), some players are being played in the wrong position โ€“ where was Brayshaw in 2018 โ€“ the centre โ€“ put him back there; where was Harmes at his best โ€“ as an attacking tagger โ€“ give him that role again

Bring back Tomlinson and give James Jordan a crack

Other changes - possibly

Anyways, after my initial depression and disgust, I slept well, the sun came up, Victoria is still in lockdown and Iโ€™ll continue to be a tragic Demon

ย

ย

Out - 1 tall (Tmac or Jackson), 1-2 slow midfielders (Jones, brayshaw, sparrow)

In - Tall for AVB, Bennel for one slow midfielder and maybe look at tomilson for the second wing again (but has to be for another slow midfielder - aka Brayshaw).

We need more dynamic and explosive/classy players, not similar types (hence, Jones in i think has hurt us as it's another of the same in). Bring back the team vs the Hawks and i'll be happy.

Pickett won't miss the games in Adelaide he is from there and his family will be able to watch him.ย  He still is our best small forward and it will click for him.

Harmes and Brayshaw are the first 2 magnets removed from the board, we just can't continue to carry these 2 on 2018 form.ย  Rivers comes back in off Half Back and Jordanย comes in.

Hannan or Fritsch go out Bennell comes in

Jones goes out Tomlinson comes in

We need to bring in some youth with run and dare.ย ย

I will be honest we are so far off it at the moment we need to see what we have on our list, we have good bones just missing some link up players and skill

ย

ย

Drop without question: TMAC

Drop also: ย Harmes, Brayshaw.

Question: ย Fritta, Hannan, Salem, Jones

Ins: Tommo for TMAc Can runย a wing and still gives us mobile size.ย

Sparrow stays in. ย AVB in if ready. ย Rivers, Jordon and even Brown to get a look in. ย Spargo maybe for balance.

Keep Kosi and Jackson.

Harmes has to be the first to go. He was horrible last night and even worse against Brisbane. Hannan also has put in 2 unacceptably bad games. Pickett is nowhere near ready and OMac has gone back to being asleep on the job. TMac looks slow and unfit and his skills have deserted him.

Vanders needs to come in. Whilst being a limited footballer, at least he looks like he gives a crap. Beyiond that whoever else comes in is a raffle.

Out: Tmac, Jones, Sparrow, Hannan

In: VDB, Bennell, Tomlinson, ANB

ย

Harmes and Brayshaw are on notice. Either could be dropped to keep Sparrow in.ย

Also, I know Jackson was poor this week but I think he offers more than TMac atm.

ย

Tom McDonald is done. Even if the player he was is still somewhere in there his body won't allow for it to come to fruition. He can't turn and is useless unless he clunks a mark of which he hasn't been able to do much at all this year. He's not even getting to contests to try and half them. This tank of his isn't doing anything anymore either. Playing him up the ground has done nothing for this team. That being said I hate to say he is one who is given a long leash and I hope it is once again shortened. We look so much better without him as a liability.

It was really stupid to play three talls. It kills our forward line pressure which is what we have relied upon so much this season being a front half team. For that reason you won't see Hannan dropped as he is probably our best in that area.

Doubt Brayshaw will be dropped as he is coaches pet and was talkedย up prior to the week by Goodwin stating his best isn't far away. It will not be popular but he won't be dropped unless its fitness (againย Goodwin stated he's fit). Salem certainly won't be dropped either. Sorry.

Realistically:

IN: Tomlinson, AVB, Rivers/Jetta

OUT: Harmes, Jones, Tmac

We have a lot of good potential ins that could fill a variety of roles. I also like the idea of bringing any of Spargo, Brown or ANB. All of which can adequately perform a role needed.

Anyone know how Smith is going? Haven't heard much of him in the scratch matches. I think the experiment of him as a defender should be put to bed and I would love him to play as a high forward. I would be so much happier experimenting with that and giving it a few weeks instead of continuing to struggle with TMac

Out Fritch, TMac, Brayshaw Jones

In AVB, Bennell, Jordan Rivers

Harmes to move to high HF role. Bennell for TMac to fix disastrous 3 tall structure, Jordan and AVB replace Brayshaw and Jones in midfield rotation. Statement for Brayshaw and as scheduled AVB return for Jones

Omac May Lockhart

Hibbard Lever Salem

Langdon Viney AVB

Harmes Jackson Melksham

Hannan Weid Pickett

Gawn Trac Oliver

Bennell Jordan Rivers Sparrow

Other than May, Max, Hibberd, Jack and Trac and a special mention to Lockhart you can take your pick on who you want dropped but Fritter, Hannan, Picket, Jackson and TMac can all go . Basically that's our forward line and Weeds also. They all as farย as I'm concerned should be playing netball and still would't evenย get the round ball. Most of this team are soft co..s. Jones is also finished. Sick and tired of these blokes jogging around by themselves with no attempt to assist. Make a statement MFC or your doomed to remain as could have beens.

Viney 19 possessions, 47% efficiency & 8 turnovers......

yeah he stays.....good call

Look we "should" be able to bully Adelaide's midfield with Matt Crouch and Rory Sloane out and then follow up against North with Cunnington and Ziebell out.ย  If we can't then shut up shop.

The test then comes against Collingwood who will have Pendlebury and Sidebottom back - unless we play differently they will smash us along with Treloar and Adams.

Tomlinson, Nibbler need to come in for their endurance with the short turnaround.

AVB for his hardness and Bennell for his composure

B. Lockhartย  Omacย  ย Lever

HB. Salemย  Mayย  ย Hibberdย

C. Langdon Vineyย  Tomo

HF. Bennellย  ย Jackoย  Fritsch

F. Pickettย  Weidย  Melk

R. Gawn, Trac, Brayshaw(last chance give him a run with role through the middle)

I/C. AVB, Nibbler,ย Oliver, Sparrow

Out. Harmes, Jones, Tmac, Hannan

ย

lockhart may lever

salem tmac hibberd

langdon viney jones

gawn oliver petracca

melksham brown fritsch

pickett weideman tomlinson

brayshaw sparrow jordon bennell

OUT: Hannan, Harmes, OMac, Jackson,ย

IN: Bennell, Jordon, Tomlinson, Brown

TMac to CHB and spargo/bedfordย in when pickett gets his rest maybe vs north instead

Less about Lockhart playing a bad game (although his disposal is pretty bad right now), more about management and bringing in Rivers as a good ball user.

I noticed every time Lockhart tried to kick the ball he'd kick low onย  an angle and invariably got cut off by the opposition.ย

I notice this as well, It's intriguing to see that technique. Works well to get the ball where you want quicker but I don't think he's got the efficiency to do that yet.ย

ย

How about this:

Lockhart, May, Rivers

OMac, Lever, Hibbard

Langdon, Sparrow, Jordan

AVB, Jackson, ANB

Frisch, Weideman, Viney

Gawn, Petracca, Oliver

Bench: Melksham, Salem, Brayshaw, Tomlinsonย

I have no idea how you even begin to put together a team to play Adelaide next week after a completely disgusting performance like that.

There are so many players whose performance was sub-standard who would not be considered for next week but for the fact that there were so many that were rubbish.

Start with the midfield. You can juggle it any way you like but if we do not look for replacements for the out of form players we will go now where fast. Give Harmes a rest. put him in a dark room for 24 hours to give him a chance to clear his head. He looks like he has too much going on up there. Brayshaw has more than stalled. he has gone backwards. out of form or not being used properly? Whichever, give him a week off. Jones is not the answer to anyย sensible question regarding selection in this team as we have an almost full list to select from. Sparrow's performance highlights this.

TMac is in the same boat as Jones. He is supposed to be a 'spearhead' but he is not sharp, in any sense of the word when it comes to footy. The only thing he has in common with a spear is that he likes straight....... running in a straight line that is. He remind me of the American Muscle cars of the 70's and 80's. A blast and all that when going in a straight line but ask them to turn at speed and you crash and burn. Rest him for the remainder of this crazy season and get him lighter and a bit more nimble.... I can live in hope.

I would keep the defence a it is. they had no hope with the way the ball was coming in because of lack of pressure from our 'Midfield'' players. ( use the team 'players' loosely)

So? 4 or 5 changes? W(ho)TF knows?

Out: Harmes, Brayshaw, Jones and TMac, Pickett

in: VdB, Bennell, Tomlinson, Rivers and Jordan to debut.

Bennell into the forwards. VdB forward and mid rotation. Tomlinson wing, ruck and forward rotation. Rivers as defensiveย cover and allow Salem to be released to a wing at times. Jordan would be good to get a run so we can see how he is developing. He could not be worse than the spuds that were sent out against Port.

A bit of thought and match day coaching would not go astray...... I am not sure but I think I saw Goody writing out his shopping list there at some point during the 2nd quarter.ย

  • PREVIEW: Richmond

A few years ago, the Melbourne Football Club produced a documentary about the decade in which it rose from its dystopic purgatory of regular thrashings to the euphoria of a premiership victory. That entire period could have been compressed in a fast motion version of the 2025 season to date as the Demons went from embarrassing basket case to glorious winner in an unexpected victory over the Dockers last Saturday. They transformed in a single week from a team that put in a pedestrian effort of predictably kicking the ball long down the line into attack that made a very ordinary Bombers outfit look like worldbeaters into a slick, fast moving side with urgency and a willingness to handball and create play with shorter kicks and by changing angles to generate an element of chaos that yielded six goals in each of the opening quarters against Freo.ย

  • NON-MFC: Round 07

Round 7 gets underway in iconic fashion with the traditional ANZAC Day blockbuster. The high-flying Magpies will be looking to solidify their spot atop the ladder, while the Bombers are desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top eight. Later that evening, Fremantle will be out to redeem themselves after a disappointing loss to the Demons, facing a hungry Adelaide side with eyes firmly set on breaking into the top four. Saturday serves up a triple-header of footy action. The Lions will be looking to consolidate their Top 2 spot as they head to Marvel Stadium to clash with the Saints. Over in Adelaide, Port Adelaide will be strong favourites at home against a struggling North Melbourne. The day wraps up with a fiery encounter in Canberra, where the Giants and Bulldogs renew their bitter rivalry. Sundayโ€™s schedule kicks off with the Suns aiming to bounce back from their shock defeat to Richmond, taking on the out of form Swans. Then the Blues will be out to claim a major scalp when they battle the Cats at the MCG. The round finishes with a less-than-thrilling affair between Hawthorn and West Coast at Marvel. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this yearโ€™s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last seasonโ€™s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourneโ€™s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.
