Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

You would think that Hogan was still down there. Since his loss we have no play who can take a contested mark. We are very one dimensional, every side knows we will just bomb it in and set up for it.

On reflection, our whole quarter fade outs also cost us for a number of seasons and that was on display in round 1 as well.

Increasing question marks over these players. If they cannot deliver against Carlton I think we have our answer.

My concern is that Goodwin will not have the players up mentally for this game. To say we need to win this one is an understatement.

He doesn't do mental. He's the opposite. His monotone voice puts them to sleep

Rd 23 v Collingwood 2017

Rd 1 2020

I've lost count of the 'line in the sand' games we've butchered. Really butchered

They sure did look flat in the first quarter against Geelong of the elimination final too.

In: Weid, Vanders, Smith, Bennell, Jones, Salem.

Out: Brown, Spargo, Hibberd, ANB, Lockhart and Bedford.

I have put the players in he order of who is replacing who, I think all the ins are upgrades on who they are replacing. Smith for Hibberd is a difficult one but my 'eye test' says that Hibberd has had a substantial decline in disposal efficiency which leads to bad turnovers and some of the poor inside 50s (and then bad goals against for being out of position). Smith provides better defensive cover and provides overlap without the turnovers. ANB has better pressure than Bennell but Bennell might touch the ball 6 times for 3 goals and 3 score assists, which in my view will have more impact on winning the game. Really wanted to get Jackson and Hannan (if he were 100%) in, probably the unlucky ones.

There is a case that we could make 27% upgrade to our round 1 team, which gives us a great chance to get back into the Finals conversation. Forward 50s will improve with better decision makers with higher disposal efficiency on the field.

I actually like this a lot!! Care to put into positions??

Serious Answer: Yes. I will be watching when we play Saturday week. Really looking forward to the game.

I would also be interested in watching the curtain raiser if it was on in the same way I would watch the Casey games. Like to see how they are developing.

Your enthusiasm amazes me. I go to some Casey games every year. But 2020 is a compromised season that will be forever marked with an Astrix . Not a real season just a trumped up one to help to keeping finances flowing. That assumes it makes it to a finals season. IMO this is a training schedule for 2021.

This was raised but just in the context of scratch matches.

Do you have a recent source.

Cannot see how they would allow them to be played as curtain raisers given ground conditions. Also hard to see how full teams could be fielded given the usual run of injuries.

From the AFL website.

Old Dee, I live over in Europe and miss going to the live matches. I am always watching the games live each and every time the Dees play.

I would take a win in any match. this season is compromised but I am sure that none of the players will be holding back. If we get to a finals series and a resolved season, I hope that the Dees are at the top, playing in the final and win the bloody thing.

I picked my 22 from the Melbourne website

B: JETTA, MAY, LEVER

HB: HIBBERD, O.MCDONALD, SALEM

C : LANGDON, PETRACCA, TOMLINSON

HF: JONES, T.MCDONALD, PICKETT

F: FRITSCH, WEIDEMAN, MELKSHAM

FOLL: GAWN, OLIVER, VINEY

IC: HARMES, BRAYSHAW, BENNELL, PETTY

Vandenberg has been ruled out because of his foot.

Hibberd won't be dropped yet but I don't think he'll last the season either.

Bennell hasn't been ruled out so I'm backing him in.

Petty was impressive last year I want him in the side.

Lockhart and Hannan unlucky to miss out we have nothing after that though. I think we only go 25 deep with Jackson being the unknown.

I'm very excited about Rivers, and believe the selection panel (not just Goodwin) will select Pig for this round for another opportunity, and look to blood Rivers when injury or form drops off. BUT I could be wrong.

Where does this all leave Marty Hore... I really like him.. but perhaps I'm pumping up a good honest toiler?

i think everyone likes marty hore cos he's a good honest toiler

the fact remains that he was in and out of our side last year when we finished 17th

unfortunately - a bit like jayden hunt - if he's in our best 22 we're really not a very good side

Yeah, thanks for that -  I lost touch with how he went last year TBH.

And we'll probably waste another 25 games to find that out before giving him the boot and writing off 2021.

Anyone pencilling in Carlton, StK and Essendon as wins in the next month is basing it on nothing other than footy played 21 months ago!

On the topic of his pep talks. I get the impression he comes across scripted and wooden, has a bit of Bill Shorten about him. You can just tell that head coaching is not going to work out when only sustained success warrants not hiring better coaches out there waiting for a gig.

I will proberly see half if I am lucky dworship as I guess that is all we will get on free to air.

I actually like going to matches when I cannot do that my interest drops considerably.

Perhaps I am just old and tired of constant losses, at least in mid June this year we are still in the hunt for a finals berth.

It would be interesting to know what percentage of the supporter base has faith in the coach at this stage. The closest thing to praise he seems to receive these days is a respectful changing of topic.

I'd be shocked disgusted if Spargo ever plays again, barring us having a huge injury list.

Can get a handpass out pretty quick but has zero other weapons.

An easy decision to delist when the list size is reduced.

For reasons that elude me ding the FD seem to love him they play him week in week out when he produces very little. Dont be suprised if he gets a gig against Carlton.

Rivers is really pushing his name up for selection with his training form.

Hibberd and a few others will be on notice.

Personally on form and potential I would make the change now but I don't think Goody will do it.

I'd love to see Rivers get a go and we could absolutely do without Hibberd's desperate long bombs to no one, I'd just be worried that putting a young kid in to the backline puts more defensive pressure on the likes of Lever and Salem and might shift Harmes deeper in to a more defensive role. After last year the coaches have to prioritise a working defensive structure.

If Rivers is really excelling with his defensive work as well as with the ball then get him in.

how about we see how he goes in a match first before he replaces a proven player who was all australian in recent years.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
