Serious question - have we ever had a player like Harley Bennell on our list?

Adam Yze

Yep. Especially the comment about the fact that Burgess would know more than he would.
Either way, I trust whatever Burgess decides to do.

Can I just point out that he hasn't played for three seasons.  Don't get the expectations too high.  IF he plays, I'll be happy to see him get through uninjured.  Anything beyond that will just be a bonus.

he played WAFL last year and was on the verge of being slected before the last calf injury.

Bit harsh, Ron. I've heard everyone on our list likes him

Thought so too except the part where he said judging by T Macs comments Harley is still holding back a bit and you get exposed by Carlton at the MCG by doing that.

The game is at Docklands so probably not an issue then

Reading between the lines of what Burgess has stated in his injury report and Goodwin's rap for him, I think Harley will be picked against Carlton.

I have it on very good authority that if Bennell is selected he will play. Make no mistake. #ETtheselectionwhisperer.

I know right. How many posters said he wouldn't play until halfway through the season! Clowns. Round 2 looking likely.

Well it is basically half way through the season so the Clowns are spot on!!

Jamie Bennell.

His DNA means he's a lot like Harley.

For a more serious answer, if you mean someone who comes with such exciting expectations, I would say Jim Tilbrook (although he didn't fulfil them); if you mean someone with freakish skills, I'd say Liam Jurrah; if you mean someone with a story of such redemption, I can't think of anyone.

I see what you did there.

Understandable, sure. But if he ends up becoming on of our star players, then their justification is somewhat nullified.

Anyway, what his success (and to get this far I'd call it a success of some notable degree) tells us is that there are people at the club who are way ahead of us when it comes to assessing a player's potential to make positive changes and put the work in. This is obviously a very good thing, and perhaps gives us a reason to put some trust in the people making the decisions next time a contentious player is flagged.

Notwithstanding history, bad luck, MFCSS and downright stupidity

The closest I came to this was Adem Yze. But Jamie Bennell did actually cross my mind - and not because of his surname.

But ultimately I don’t reckon Yze or Harley Bennell are that similar. They both have smoothness and skills but not do not share the same physicality or presence.

Harley Bennell is a really special player. He has no ceiling and can play anywhere.

I hope the MFC has been filming his journey to the Dees and his progress since joining us - because, if he makes it, this rivals Rocky as a movie script.

Didn't realise he was homeless. Maybe one of the other players could rent him a room?

Goody would have liked this joke

Think you may have missed the joke there, Doc.

Getting slow in my old age.

Would have been every bit as good as Judd if things didn't go off the rails.  Hes a phenomenal talent.

If we get him on the park and his body is right and he plays consistently, then I want us to go hard after Joe Daniher and let Darren Burgess weave his magic on him.

Goody said on 3AW on Sunday when answering a question about "To Hell and Back" that the club has been filming behind the scenes stuff for 3-4 years.

We could well do with a few minutes of vision with Harley at this stage - evidence of his playing and ground skills now that recovery seems nearly complete and he is allegedly 'ready to go' for us. It would settle some nerves and knockers, surely?

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
