Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

Kemp may well be gone by 8, whereas Gould should be there by 8, so this should dictate our drafting strategy. I hope this is the thinking anyway. ?

Gould would spend his first year at the club on weight watchers.

192cm and 106kg ???

I do like Kemp AF as you know, but very keen to get in one of Young and Stephens

Fair enough mate. Pity we don't have 3 top 10 picks and we could nab all of them.

Still pretty quick though. He'd shed those kgs in a pro environment and add more pace to his game. Goody likes South Aussies too, so Gould and Stephens could be in the frame. I wonder if the review took away some of his list management oversight.

Alternatively, @Fifty-5 proposed trading 8 for 10 and an early second rounder. We could still probably get Gould with 10 and maybe a Weightman at the start of the second round.

Kemp, Gould and Weightman all address needs. I like it.

Bulldogs are red hot on Weightman at pick 13 if he is still there.

Gould is only quick in a straight line. His agility is average. At 106kgs, he’s able to run through tackles from kids 30kg lighter than him. At afl level, he’ll no longer have a size advantage and will get brought down instead. He’d need to lose 10-15kgs so he’s able to cover the required ground too. He’s not a bad footballer, but he doesn’t possess enough elite attributes to be pick 3 or 8. Draft best available, and he’s not it.

Still hoping for Young at 3 and Stephens or Kemp at 8.

a bit like that man-child, kieran collins, that the dogs drafted in 2014/5? i think they delisted him this year.. he looked like an adult against kids in his highlights packages.. but just couldn't cut it in the afl.

I reckon Twomey has stuffed up, he doesn’t look 106kg. Here’s his stats from the combine:

Gould's a big boy. Probably the fattest since Mumford, but only 191cms!

That article above has a quote that he gets blasted by coaches for always trying to take the hardest kick and not the easy/team option. Shows he's a bit of a Sam Frost and doesn't necessarily follow team gameplan. If that's the case, clubs wouldn't rate him as very coachable or good for team environment, and it's probably why there's questions where he even gets drafted in the top 30. Personally I think he's worth a pick in the mid-late teens, but he's not who we should be drafting with either top 10 pick, and he's not what we need either.

Young plays a similar position, but is more agile, quicker, better intercept marker, better kick, and more versatile. Take him at pick 3 and look for best talent available at 8. Gould ain't it.

I agree with picking Green/Young at 3 but pick 8/9/10 will depend on who is left out of the following they are not in any selection order Kemp/Stephens/Serong/Ash/Flanders/Robertson/McAstey etc, but if Kemp is there they should take him.

Would love to land Stephens, exactly what we need (all though we need a small forward in Weightman too)

How good does Dylan Stephens look. Absolutely pick him. Dylan Stephens and Kemp look to have high ceilings.

We should threaten to bid on Henry at 8 so Freo trade us 10 and 22 for 8

then pick Weightman at 10 (and Young at 3 or Ash at 6)

Bidding for Henry at 3 would be the go.

I'm bored so this is my 100% uneducated stab at the top 10. I haven't factored in potential trades of picks at this stage.

  1. Gold Coast - Matt Rowell
  2. Gold Coast - Noah Anderson
  3. Melbourne - Hayden Young
  4. GWS (matching Adelaide's bid) - Tom Green
  5. Adelaide - Sam Flanders
  6. Sydney - Caleb Serong
  7. Freemantle - Luke Jackson
  8. Melbourne - Brodie Kemp
  9. Carlton - Deven Robertson
  10. Freemantle - Lachie Ash

Assuming we still have pick 3, I think Young is the one for us. It will be interesting to see who Adelaide go for and talk of Sydney being keen on Kemp is intriguing as well. If Kemp goes to Adelaide or Sydney then one of Serong or Flanders will be available at our pick with Freo having two high quality WA kids to pick from. I've gone Robertson for Carlton as I think they'll be looking for one more high quality inside production mid to compliment Cripps and Walsh but this could easily be flipped with Freo if they elect to take Robertson at 7. If Carlton are confident of getting Martin for free in one of the drafts I'm not convinced they'll place a bid on Henry. Still a way out from the draft but with live trading a few clubs having multiple picks in the top 10 it makes for an interesting draft.

I wouldn't be opposed to taking Stephens at 8 as well, not so sure about Weightman.

Good work. I’m thinking Crows will grab Dylan Stephens at 5 and Sydney to grab Sam Flanders. Serong to Blues at 9 as a bargain.
Hope it’s not a case of Ollie Wines with Young and Kemp. Demonlanders keen but we pick a Toumpas ahead of Wines and regret it for many years.

Is there any chance that GWS don't match a big for Green and we end up with Green and Kemp?

I think so, they are stocked with inside midfielders and if he wasn't part of their academy, I doubt they would even be considering him with their pick. If he is at a similar level to Jacob Hopper he would be a poor pick for them. They would benefit from selecting players with more versatility.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
