Well we can lose, if our forward line is trash next year.

I still say that's more a coaching issue than a problem with the players.

coaching, fitness, personnel...it's not just one thing

very happy to pick up elliott as a free agent

If we think getting Elliot is in any small way going to improve our side or be the answer to any of our woes then we really are in trouble. $600,000 for a bloke that will add about as much as Kennedy from the Pies did a few years ago, just stinks of desperation. Elliot isn't worth a pinch of s##t.

The fact we've even attached our name to him means we are f##cked. We have no idea how to play money ball and we are gone, game over, forget it, walk away.

Normally I would either ignore such a mindless, rubbish post or make some sarcastic, facetious comment.

Didn't want to do the first. Couldn't be bothered with the latter.

So I will instead I'll respectfully ask you to sod off.

He’s kicked more than 30 goals in 4 seasons, might be 5 after this year. But sure, he’ll add nothing more than Ben Ken.

Be concerned about injuries and overpaying - but free agents are always overpaid - don’t be silly and say he doesn’t have talent.

How do you want us to play moneyball? There’s not a lot of good players out there for free or at below market cost, particularly not goal kickers.

Go through the list of goal kickers who have kicked more than 30 goals, not many of them would be cheap. Sam Lloyd is one who was a good pick up by the dogs but he stank in the final, his home and away season goals probably outweigh his talent

I know he's an unrestricted free agent and all but is anyone worried that Eddie will screw Mahoney over and get him to give up the gate receipts to both Queens birthday and ANZAC Eve for the next 10 years and then Elliott will probably ping his hammy signing the paperwork and Eddie will be like this out of the room ..

* joking. sort of.

Just watching him last weekend had me thinking how much I’d love to somehow get him to the club. Would be a great get. Anyone who thinks otherwise is having a laugh.

If fit then a big yes from me.

Unfortunately he struggles to get on the park at times. His hammy is as dodgy as a Gatorade urine sample.

It's pick 2

Anyone still believing we’ll end up with pick 2 is beyond delusional. Afl will be doing everything it can to help out its basket case of a club

This is a good situation.  If we get him, that's great.  If we don't get him, I don't think anybody will be horribly upset.  We can't lose.

Exactly. I hope he knocks us back. Great when he is out there but that's not often enough and if the Pies struggle to keep him fit with their state of the art resources how will we go?

Look, within a few weeks he might be thinking about having another tilt at a flag with the Pies after they lose the Big One by two points due to a last minute, appalling umpiring decision that gifts Jack Reiwoldt a goal. So he stays.

I prefer the Langdon and Tomlinson rumours to this one but the upside of all three is that we are in gear and looking to make a difference to a group that failed comprehensively this year.

Elliot has more talent in his little toes than Spargo, ANB, Dunkley and the Wagners have combined together

I hope our offer is good enough to convince him to switch. A serious talent is Elliott and would love him in our colours. Gut feel is he will stay a Pie. They have persisted with him through his injuries and now that he’s getting a good run at it he seems elated to be a Pie judging by his reaction on the final siren against Cats last week. Can’t take too much out of reactions but that’s how I read it at the time.

Smells like a plot by his manager to force Collingwood's hand at the negotiating table. We are just the pawn.  Will not leave.

He had a great final last week. Not just goal kicking but that smother was sensational.

With him Fritsch & Petracca, it would give us some real potency & x factor up forward.

It also might mean we can release Petracca to play further up the ground more often as well.

I’m honestly convinced that anyone disagreeing that we dont need someone like Elliot at the club truely doesnt want our club to succeed.

If you want to get a proper idea of Jamie Elliott’s worth, go over to the Collingwood forums. Their fans are apoplectic at the idea of losing him.

Of course they are - he was the big out for them for most of last year, most Pies fans think their team is so much stronger with Elliott in it. Would love him at Melbourne but can’t see how the Pies would let him go.

Crazy to consider taking a 27 year old on big coin with years of chronic injuries.

If we had a team of champions and could afford to take a risk then fair enough.

But serious back and hamstring injuries never go away.

We already have a team of crocs (some on big coin) for goodness sake.

Bring to the club another bloke who may sit in the stands and unlikely to be a regular member of the team.

You can almost guarantee that he will have time on the injury list.

And the Pies don’t let good players  go. They also have some of the best medical and injury management staff going around, light years ahead of the Dees.

No more players who make fleeting appearances please.

Foolhardy desperation.

If Hawthorn thought that way about Burgoyne where would they be?

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
