The clouds seem to have aligned on the Jenkins rumour.

Unlike several of the fantasy rumours we hear at this point in the season, this one actually makes sense.

I can’t see this one being true, I’m pretty sure he’ll die if he walks outside of the goal square at Adelaide Oval.

Well, I guess it makes sense.

We are in need of a small forward.

Hoping the people i'm speaking to are wrong, but i'm hearing the Saints and Hawks are ahead of us in the race for Hill. we are having to be pretty creative Salary cap wise to come up with a financial offer to get him and Langdon and it's looking like the club is prioirtising Langdon over Hill. and the Saints and Hawks have some money to splash.

Big novice when it comes to trade time so excuse my ignorance but...

Hill is a must get.  Langdon i have no idea as i haven't watched him closely at all really.  We are severley lacking in this player type and skill set though (Hill).

Im not sure why we are re-signing depth players when we are in dire need of two quality outsiders, a genuine KF & two small forwards.

We can't wait and hope that rookies will just miraculously fill these key roles with such a narrow window available.

Surely there's plenty of dead wood or surplus depth players that can be traded and/or delisted to free up the salary cap, improve our coffers and go on a shopping spree!??

Brad hill has asked for a trade back to victoria for his wife (she's from Vic).  Announced by Lyon on the news.

Jenkins is a spud, who is huge but has no presence on the field and not what we are after.

We all Know Freo are crap to deal with , whether we are late to the race or not they will drag it out to suit themselves, it will all come down to the offer that is made. Freo wont care if its hawks or Melbourne , it will be the best offer for them.

I may have missed something since, but that's not what Lyon said at all as far as I've seen.

“Brad’s playing super football … we have a strong working relationship and respectful on both sides,” Lyon told reporters.

“We empathise and try and put ourselves in all our players' shoes. But at the end of the day we have list managers and football sub-committees that get to work on those types of situations when they arise.

“I’m sure we will deal with the situation when it arises.”

Rocket science anyone?

Robbo reckons Saints are leading the race at this point.

I’m pretty desensitised to the utter shitfulness of this club. That being said. If this crap season means Hill overlooks us as a designation to instead go to [censored] St Kilda,....I will be displeased.

Hill is exactly the player we are crying out for.

i sincerely hope the club has their ears to the ground and is ready at the drop of the hat to clear a salary or two off the books, irrespective of how many games they've played at the club, in order to match or even exceed a bid that the Saints are offering (Could be Frost, Jones, Garlett etc). I'd rather Hill and 2 more young draftees on minimum afl wage that wont even play a game, than 2 seniors on 350-400k who we are still waiting on whether they can make it, or if they have another year of afl standard footy to give.

I wonder if it's all tied in with the news that Jack Steven will probably be off to Geelong this year, and how much cap space that frees up for them. We might actually be outbid by a far bigger amount than we can possibly make up.

St Kilda could offer him a lot more cash, our salary cap is getting stretched.

I thought Mahoney said last year there was space for another big fish this year?

Has the Club (as opposed to journos) revealed that our cap is tight?

We should have some room. After we signed Lever Mahoney said there was room for another. We got May but lost Hogan. So realistically money should not be a concern.

We are 17th, there better be room or Mahoney and Viney need to walk.

Agree on Jenkins. Downhill skier and gets the easy ball. We don’t need him.

So what can we give up to get him here ? Is it better than the Saints or Hawks offers ?

Sure we may not be able to pay him the most but he would get the chance to train in the best facilities, with the best medicos, in a team that consistently makes the finals and plays numerous blockbusters in front of big crowds.

to be honest i think the $$ side of things is where they have a big edge over us in this race.

https://www.6pr.com.au/were-not-requesting-a-trade-brad-hill/

In the interview he says his partner is from Melbourne and they may move back to Victoria in future to start a family. He said it's not happening now and the rumours aren't true. He's not asking for a trade and his manager hasn't spoken to anyone but Freo. Usual straight bat stuff, as we're still in the season and he's contracted to Freo for 2 more years.

I don't think we'd get both him and Langdon, but one of them may be gettable and a good result as long as no first round pick is involved.

Yes - we ALL do! AFL Not compromise another draft for those incompetent buggers.. best they’ll get is start of 2nd round that’s all that’s in rules to give now anyways!!!

Wrong

Suggested yesterday that Stevens goes to Geelong, Kelly goes to Free and Hill goes to the Saints with swaps of late draft picks. No good for us but seems a good fit with 3 players who want to play elsewhere.

If we get pick 2 please take Noah Anderson and do not trade it away for anybody

Would we be happy to get Landon for our 2nd pick, currently around 21ish? is that what we are thinking? its a bit hard to get a feeling on what he is actually worth?

Only problem is Stevens is old and not worth the value of the other 2.

Im not saying it won't happen, but I doubt it will happen as you've put "late picks involved" only

How can our salary cap be stretched when we have 2 imports and Gawn on big money. we also lost hogan.

we should have a lot of room to spare.  god knows most players negotiating a new contract this year wont be getting more money based on 2019 performance

  • CASEY: Geelong

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
