Found it more interesting that Lever wasn't named in the extended team in the 2's

I mean the extended bench, lever named in starting line up. I/C gets named at Casey

Excited for this now. Second week in a row where the team changes offer obvious, substantial upgrades with players returning. Obviously players like Lever will be a long way off peak, but we’re slowly building a competent looking side again.

Decided not to make my annual pilgrimage for this match this year, because we’d been crap and I really wanted some time at home having had an insanely busy year so far, but I’m kicking myself now.

Viney on the wing and Brayshaw back in the middle

Must occur, and Fritta to HFF of FwdPkt. Hunt is the movable one for this to occur. I'd put Viney on the HFF to use his one-sided boot. The intent would be for him to penetrate and crumb, hopefully to the Preuss ground-balls. He has to take the initiative with pace. TMac could play a wing/flank. Hannan the swingman off the bench up forward.

Despite all the extended bench being named at Casey there is no Oscar Mac selected at Casey. Is he injured  rather than omitted?

Notable that Lewis is selected at half back for Casey.

On the news tonight Lever's selection is subject to him getting through training tomorrow. If fit he plays if not he won't be at Casey

Watch us win lots of games now and finish 9th ?

That would be a good result.

Extended I/C, my read is

Garlett/Spargo

Weideman/Preuss

Stretch/ANB

Wagner/Hibberd

Surely the Bold are in, unless injury concerns.

Agree with that. Out of those pairings, think they'll go for Garlett and Stretch. In spite of his weaknesses, Garlett is at least hitting the scoreboard, and Stretch hasn't been that bad, though what position would be play?

Main interest for me is where Fritsch plays, hopefully he can now be moved further up the field (wing/forward).

Nothing better than missing finals AND a top draft pick.

I'd rather do that and have a hope of finishing 8th in a tough year than find out all our players suck and finishing 10th-17th (because lets be real no one's gonna out-tank Carlton).

Oscar was always going to keep his place while May wasn't available and Petty isn't ready.

Interesting to see that Oscar wasn't named for Casey either. Perhaps just admin, though perhaps he's been carrying something (he had that injury at the end of the GWS game for example).

T Mac to kick 7 this week.

Kicked 6 in the corresponding game last year. No reason he can't better that.

7 kicks? That seems to be about right

We have to play the best player in each position. We now have someone else for FB, so OMac no longer is the best available.  Lets hope he redefine what his best role will be - or maybe its just backup to Maysie Mouse.

Because missing finals and getting top draft picks has worked out so consistently well for us in the past...

A complete backline transplant. Hopefully with Lever and May, Frost can play to his strength and give us lots of run

our defence will be rusty but its the first step to gaining some cohesion.

Carn the Demons!

Lever being named on the field suggests they’re expecting him to play. He definitely won’t play in the VFL in any case.

Very hard to pick who’s in from the extended bench. I’d say Hibberd and Weideman are locks for in and Wagner is a lock for out (like for like player for Hore, obvious which player is better). After that, plenty of room to justify any of them.

To me the question is, who else is coming Out, of the 18.   Lever is still a test,  for mine.    Any other injuries/form, or chronic soreness ???  TMc, Fritta, Tracca ?

    HIGHLIGHTS/LOWLIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Melbourne traveled across the continent to take on the Fremantle Dockers in sweltering conditions at Mandurah south of Perth in a game that delivered the club both its highlight and its lowlight in the first minute.  But first, let’s start by doing away with the usual cliches used in connection with the game. It was just a practice match and the result didn’t matter. Bad kicking is bad football. The game was played in severe heat, the swirly breeze played havoc with both teams resulting in

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
