Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Watching the saints under pressure they handball to a stationary guy 4 feet away...we just need to pressure them

The stationary player is the get and give transition. Ideally he has it for next to no time and passes it to an outside runner.

We often lack this very runner.

The way to overcome their run and spread is to overwhelmingly win the contested ball and pressure their mids through guys like Harmes and Stretch playing run-with roles (Gresham and Ross)

Our backs will get slaughtered if the Saints' outside mids take control.

This strategy ... this chaos style is, to me ,very reminiscent of "whack the gopher". I.e it's manic . And you have to just keep keeping at it.

Nearly impossible to keep it up all game...and if you do...the toll is very high.

I actually believe what we're seeing at the start of this season is the price paid for our 'good' run at the back end of last season.

We need to learn and master tempo...or we'll fry ourselves.

St Kilda are hopeless.

If they win so be it.  It just shows where we're at in this particular season.

Only a flag interests me.  I couldn't give a continental about making up the numbers.  If our preseason surgeries and interruptions (that we supposedly never had) mean we're cooked in 2019 it is what it is.

St Kilda are still [censored] win or lose.

We seem to have our appetite for winning back.

I hope after the Swans win which was bigger than most give it credit for we continue to be hungry for more. It was hreat to see all the boys congratulate each goal scorer in the last quarter and hold their heads high at the final siren.

Saints were good today but we will be better and hopefully our season will be on the mend. Preuss will be a big factor. We need him in and I think on a lesser defender than Olir we could see him do some big damage. Tmac and Weid to build on last week as with the midfield and we will be Dees of last year.

Or the old Melbourne could turn up.

By God this club keeps us on our toes.

Any Dees supporter worried about this game needs to give themselves a face-slap. I doubted us last week, but still maintained that we were going to play finals.

OK, we wont have anything like our best team on the park. No disrepect to the Saints as i reckon they have finally found their mojo, but we will still beat them in a canter.

If we don’t win we are officially pretenders

Well not pretenders..as such.... it'll just mean we've evolved this style as far as it can go. We'll have found our ceiling.

We just need to be clever in our football...not so Neanderthal ;)

What a stupid thing to say. This is the typical Melbourne game that we are prone to drop. Saints are in good form, and yes i understand we have just had a win ourselves. But no way is this a walk in the park (no game is this year)

Hopefully the Sydney win will be the kick start we needed.

The level of intensity and application Essendon showed against us was at least double what they showed against St Kilda.

That was little to do with St Kilda being better than us (which was also true), it was more about how Essendon attacked the contest or generally cared about the game. In the first half of their game, Essendon was non-existent. St Kilda were playing a below-VFL level side.

They've beaten a developing young side in GC by 1 point, an Essendon side which played the worst half of footy anyone will play this year whilst struggling to hold them off, and they beat Hawthorn by a kick despite the Hawks having at least 6 injuries and only 2 on the bench for a half.

If we're talking their 3-1 record alone, I'm not worried in the slightest.

It's not their W-L record which is the thing we should be worried about. St Kilda play a style of game which, when they're on, is our achilles heel. They'll use the space on the G, they'll bring pace, and if we leave too much space behind our press then they'll find it easier to score than they have in the opening four rounds.

This is not going to be easy for us, but St Kilda is not a good side.

I think Essendon certainly took a step forward between weeks 2 and 3 but a lot of that was because they went from playing the Saints to playing us.

We took a leap between weeks 3 and 4 not only because of fitness/coaching/effort but because we were playing the Swans instead of the quick bombers.

So much of the confidence and run that Essendon had against us came from our lack of pressure. We showed in the second quarter that if we could stick with them a bit and hold them up they started making mistakes. The Saints deserve credit for doing that.

Again, not saying they are anything special, just in agreement they have traits to challenge us and I think the results against Essendon one week apart should be put down to more than just the Bombers getting it together.

If we cant defend against St Kilda we will struggle v any team. Im confident we will account for St Kilda and improve some on last week.

Funny. I have exactly the same feelings.

I had high hopes for the season but I am surprisingly Zen about us having a bad year. A lot has to go right to win the whole thing. I'm not going to worry too much.

We should be worried about any team with strong outside run.

The Saints should be sh!tting themselves about our contested fire power. They have Ross and Stelle on the inside.

Also he has not played for a full season really.

probably underdone like some of our players were.

But he is elite in  preparation I recall so expect a big spike in mobility.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to
