Round 16 Non - MFC Games

Big games this weekend to influence final 8 and positions therein.

  • Tonight:  The heavyweight game - Syd vs Cats.
  • Friday night: The revenge match:  Tigers vs Crows
  • Sunday: The hopeful vs the injured:  Ess vs Pies
  • A few potential % boosters:  Power, North and Demons.

Last week I was hoping for a % boost for us and other upsets to solidify our spot in the 8...well, the upsets happened...?

This week, I worry that certain upsets might knock us out of the 8.

At this stage I'm just hoping we win...

There is a good chance 5 of our threatening rivals could go down. Cats, Hawks, Crows, Giants and Bombers. The horse has bolted for us in the top four. Better if the current top four keep winning.  I don’t think Port or North will slip up against easy beats like us. A win is a non negotiable for us as is a bit of luck around the grounds.

WTF 4 minutes in and already two high frees to the Duckwood Bros

And a mark in front to Geelong from a 7 metre kick.

Why do I bother with BT and his LLLLLLLOOOOOOYYYYDDDD?

Quite interesting following the soccer with the Russian and now Georgian commentators. Cannot understand a word which shows how unnecessary they are. Just need them on to give a bit of crowd noise.

I picked the cats by 3 points. All the 32 point teams that lost last week will win this week with the hawks beinqg in the greatest danger of losing.

Daisy Pearce is hands down the best thing about this coverage. She actually does her job as a boundary rider by informing us of players coming off injured (idiots like Ling, Richardson and Watson just tell us what we've already seen). She also provides good insight and asks good questions in interviews.

Agreed.

Other than in games against us, of course, we need Richmond, Sydney, West Coast, Port and (vomit) Collingwood to win as many games as possible, taking wins off our rivals for the final three spots in the 8.

Also need some more upsets from the bottom 6. Brisbane getting an upset win over Adelaide or North at home, or Fremantle beating Hawthorn at home, would be useful.

Missed a lot of the game but just turned on and just cannot understand these absurd 50s

Cat marked; Jones right beside him when he marked it, immediately ran around behind him .... 50!!!!!!!!!

That was an absolute shocker.

The protected zone 50 rule really needs to be overhauled/removed.

Sydney no compsure into F50. Bombs and throw on boot. Got the dees

hopr they play like this in a few weeks

players spending too much time appealing to umps which shows they've become attuned to umps

this is our season gone right here I fear

The 50m penalties are proof positive that the AFL is run by complete idiots.

This vision of players running around opposition marker with hands in the air "I never dunnit guvna" is literally the most ludicrous thing I've ever seen in football. Risible. Dill should be sent to the gallows (figurative! Figurative ! Hi AFL Stasi! ????

Swans have got the good mcCartin. Only 18 but showing more than his big bro. Shows how much high draft picks are worth as he went in the 30’s

I dunno about that. We just played big brother into his best form, maybe he'll never stop and the Saints will end up on the same wins as us come round 23.

That result really hurts us. We will need to find our mojo very quickly. With the Hawks and North to make a huge charge (they have so many games against lowly teams) we will not only need to win our winnable games and win well (Freo, Bulldogs, Gold Coast) we will need to find a few more against some quality teams and teams finding form. Lose this week and that’s all she wrote.

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    TURNAROUND by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons won their first game at home this year in the traditional King’s Birthday Weekend clash with Collingwood VFL on Sunday in a dramatic turnaround on recent form that breathed new life into the beleaguered club’s season. The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res

It's Game Day and the Demons are once again faced with a classic 8 point game against a traditional rival on King's Birthday at the MCG. A famous victory will see them reclaim a place in the Top 8 whereas a loss will be another blow for their finals credentials.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
