Is Jeffy Garlett just trade bait now?

Worth noting he stunk it upĀ in the magoos at Carlton as well which is partlyĀ they traded him for a bag of chips. I understand he needs to earn his spot but maybe the VFL just isn't his bag. Maybe the pace of the game is too slow for him.

I'm speculating, but I'veĀ no doubt that with regular game time he's still a 40-50 goal a year forward. If we trade him thenĀ that's what he will be kicking for the club we trade him to.

Agree, I don’t think he is VFL material. There are lots of players particularly lightly built guys who struggle on the slower grounds and poorer VFL skill level. He needs to be playing AFL but you need a minimum standard to be elevated. Ā Unfortunately, you can’t get back to AFL without some good VFL form. Ā And unfortunately his AFLĀ form was not good enough for him to retain his place. HeĀ is in a difficult position that only he can extricate himself from.Ā

Ā

Lower grades don’t necessarily equate to better performances for many players.

Shane Warne used to stink it up for Victoria and StKilda a couple of times per year.

Yossarian might argue that point.

Spargo seems to have the seat in front.Ā

Tbh...if Jeffy id be reconsidering where my future lay.

Come on guys its pretty obvious that he has the $hitz or the sulks after being dropped & is just going through the motions at Casey.

Don't forget he pretty much did the same when he was at Carlton.

Its disappointing but you can't have a rule for Jeffy and another rule for everyone else.Ā  He is on good money & if he doesn't stop sulking I can't see any alternative to delisting him.Ā

Its pretty serious.

Clubs are nervous about third marriages.

Not sure where this is going. Sad for jg and mfc.

The season disappointment both for the player himself and the team.Ā

Brings so much when hes on, but is a liability when hesĀ not.

The pity is that we really need Jeff right now with the switch turned on. It would make a huge difference to team balance and goal scoring opportunities.

The problem for Jeff is that he not only needs to get back into the team (will only happen on Goodwin's terms-play well at Casey) and then play consistently every week, both offensively and defensively. That's the problem.

Can't see him at the Demons next year.

It's the Watt's problem, Jeff hasĀ the ability but not the winning behaviours that Goodwin is clearly trying to develop.Ā Ā

Was missing at a crucial time 2017.

From watching him play over the years my perception of him is that he is an extremely talented player. ButĀ I believe he doesn't really like to get his hands dirty and is a liability in terms of contested ball and tackling. I'd be interested to see his pressure stats but for a quick and agile player he doesn't seem to have enough tackles or pressure acts. If he is playing like that then all he is giving the teamĀ is uncontested possessions. From my understanding of the game that'sĀ not enough at this level of footy. If the game was less contested and congested we might be able to carry him. It will be interesting with the rule changes coming in at the end of year as there might be more space for him under those rules next year?

I had him as a player that would be out of the team come this years end so personally I'm not surprised he's stinking it up at present. Hope he proves me wrong.

Of the Dee's get offered a pick around 40-50 they will probably take it.

Ā

Yes probably gets delisted now.Ā

Really unfortunate

he won the game v Lions when 20 others went to sleepĀ

played 2 down games then dropped

seems to be on the outer asĀ is Sam Frost

Youd be forgiven for thinking hes out of favour ( carrying a marked card ) ..eh ?

Ā

I don’t reckon his cards are marked, just that form isn’t warranting selection.

I don’t reckon ā€œmarkingā€ happens that often. The most blatant timesĀ were James Magner under Neeld (not selected after a 50 possession game in the VFL) and Dean Terlich under Roos (0 games in 2 seasons, with every other also-ran getting at least one crack).

Dunn, after his Roos-defyingĀ torpĀ kick in?

It's up to him really.

Goody hasĀ always been about behaviors and the idea of behaviors getting you in and out of the team.Ā

If he wants a good example of what happens if Goody no longer forgives you, take a look at number 23 at Port Adelaide (as sad as that has become).

good comparison I think.

Garlett is not a crash and bash player so is on the outer with our current coaching philosophy. I am not convinced we don’t need some silky skills,Ā pace and unpredictability on the outside. So far the better sides have easily defendedĀ our one dimensional forward entries and strangled our scoring while easily running the ball out of our forward 50 yet we talk about the importance of defensive forwards. We aren’t seeing much of that against the better sides.Ā

Jeffy is one good gameĀ  with endeavour and a fewĀ  goals away from breaking back into the side. However it will be enough to reignite his season and l believe that is what they are hoping for. He is the kind of player that plays with confidence. Hopefully he canĀ  produce the goods against Essendon in the VFLĀ  this Saturday. Need him back.

Surely we don’t trade him for a pack of chips

For the first half of last year he was ranked as the number 1 forward for pressure. The Champion Data guru Glen Luff was on radio after round 4 this year and stated Garlett was in our top 2 for forward pressure at the time. I have no idea how they measure that stat and I thought he was unlucky to get dropped when so many of his teammates were just as bad.Ā

I’d have him in the team as I feel we need his craft but inĀ 10 weeks since his omission he’s fallen down the order I feel.Ā

Oh...and after his match winning effortĀ against Brisbane this year some of the media were talking him up as the game’s best small forward.Ā

2 packets? Must be salt 'n vinegar

Garlett needs to work harder that’s what they’re trying to get him to do at Casey. If he’s got the sulks he’ll either realise and pull his finger out or he’s going to become a Casey player. I’d be surprised if we didn’t see a reenergised Garlett in the ones soon enough. I’d play him and spargo, Hogan, Weideman, Melksham and Petracca as our forward line. I’d switch McDonald back Ā to stopĀ the bleeding. The thing about McDonald is you can play him anywhere anytime. Surely the forward line above can kick enough goals

I was hopping he would have been back in the side weeks ago, but as the weeks go by it's becoming less likely.

Hope he can turn it around fingers?

Judging by his non involvement over the last few weeks and the drafting and emergence of Young charlie, is this the end of Jeffy?

Pretty much, i think W4tA.

Viney has stipulated only recruit those with a hard competitors nature..Ā  It is paying off, as to where we are at now.Ā  They are building a brand new culture that we takes us forward for the next 10-15 years, with the path they are on.

Ā jeffry either has a dip or he doesn't.Ā Ā  pretty simple.

Ā

I think he's gone.Ā  we will take what we can?

Even if he did change now, I think he's pretty much going to be passed by both Spargo now, and soon Baker.Ā

And IF DJ finds his mojo down back, I would not be surprised to see him also hop in front of Jeffy.

Gone DV8. Interesting to hear everyone's thoughts on it. No point having him around if Jeffy ain't going to play.

We need to get back into the draft and this might be the brain trusts thinking.

Ā

Players are hired to give their all;,,, all the time... and to add to the club when they are in any sort of position, in the team, or out of the team.

The sulky types like whatshisface have no place bringing the house down, for their own satisfactions.Ā  Any that immature and self centred, had better just close the door behind them, after passing through it.

I think we need to give him some opportunities in the ones to gain some form if we make finals and want to be competitive. That said if we persist with the high press and manic high bombs into a congested forward line then maybe don’t bother. Just continue to lose despite winning the contested footy count and 60 plus inside 50’s.Ā

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
