Harmes, Salem and Brayshaw really stepped up in the midfield.

This really did happen, and proved to be effective across the board.

I believe bombers have a fair bit of talent and perhaps like us are struggling at times to find their feet so to speak.

But so glad not be 4 and 2.. A glimmer of hope with a chance of winning 3 in a row.

We welcome your input into the discussion on today’s game.

Wasn't that a thing to behold, after halftime.

Spargo, sparked us up. fantastic.

TMC's bollocking thru the mid part of the ground, and forward was just what the doctor ordered.

The balance really changed the teams dynamic,  and the opposition defenders really had to focus on these two... cutting back their offence side.

 It was pleasing to witness.

Our 3 first half posters would have made a big difference at half time against the Scum but we clicked in the second half and hopefully will take some belief from that. Our efficiency and fwd pressure improved dramatically.

I have to pull you up on this jnr as it's been mentioned a few times. It may have made a difference but I'm not sure it's fair to cite when from my recollections Essesdon kicked three first-half posters as well. Game could have also been almost beyond reach at half time with the Bombers' tails up. We also got quite a number of cheap goals - including at least three from nonsense frees - over the course of the day.

Why did it take so long

Jones in the middle

Because it's a short-term solution. Jones is 30, and if we keep asking him to knock himself around at the bottom of the pack week after week, he'll be done in a season or two. Moving him outside/back prolongs his career.

It's why we need Viney in the team and players like Petracca, Brayshaw etc. to step up.

Bernie gets a $2,000 fine from MRP for striking Darcy Parish.

Have been waiting for someone to ruffle his feathers a bit since his pompous game vs us round 2, 2016!

I think it was the elbow to the head front on in the marking contest?  Could have killed him, but Bernie played nice. $2000 love tap.

They should have fined Daniher $2000 for being a hairy [censored] rimjob face with no talent.  Sorry, AA forward and mark of the year recipient.  Sheesh, why do they suck up so hard to these scummy scabbed over day old cream pies?

Spargo was robbed of the rising star nomination this week. Contributed more than Waterman did at west coast.

Think we need to officially call this guy Sparko, after BBO has now coined the phrase.....

I've now seen the game.  A few thoughts:

  • I think the umpires actually favoured us this game. It's hard to accept the evidence of my eyes, but I'm pretty sure we got the best of them.
  • Spargo looked good.  In particular he made good decisions.  1 clanger in his first game.  Great kicking action.  No issues with a set shot.
  • Brayshaw and Salem are finding their feet at this level again.  They're getting their mojo back and that is going to be a huge benefit for team balance and depth.
  • Hellishly impressed with Tommy.  He slotted right back in with hardly a stumble.
  • Jetta has found form again.  I was worried he was destined for Casey, but it appears I may have been a victim of premature relegation.
  • The whole backline functioned as a unit and worked as an effective team.  Great to see.

I also feel it's worth pointing out that while we looked horrible the previous two weeks at times, our losses have been to three of the past four sides to win flags.  As I got past my anger and actually thought about it, that's not as bad as I thought.  We still looked pretty bad, especially against the Hawks, but at least we didn't get done by Brisbane or Carlton like that.

Its funny, isn’t it?  We stick with the Tigers for 3 1/2 quarters and get blown away in the end.  The third quarter was some of the toughest pressure football by two teams I have seen in ages.  Wrist slashing and the narrative is how bad the Dees are

Pies stick with them for 3 quarters and get blown out at the end and ‘they are back’.  Tigers are a benchmark.  Hate the way the industry panders to the pies and the dons.

Waterman has been good 3 weeks in a row. Just like other years they seem to reward accumulation of games over the actual game of that particular round. With Round 1 being the odd exception each year

2 for 2 in disco blue.

I just watched the second half and I'm hoping that this will give us confidence moving forward.

While we didn't go through the corridor absolutely every time, at least eyes were lowered and the game taken on in patches.

Maxy was a cut above. Get his at shot goal kicking right and look out.

Spargo looked right at home for an 18 year old kid. When the heat came under packs, he didn't panic. He also had great composure in front of the big sticks.

I am also liking where the Weed is. He now has the body of an AFL footballer. He could be a missing piece if he gets some strut about him.

Nibbler and Harmes still seem to be in a rut. Maybe it's confidence but if someone is kicking the door down at Casey that we can bring in, maybe it would help for them to get some touch back there.

Anyway, onwards to next week.

love it.

We have 2 at the moment that would make our team if fit: Kent and Viney (Trac being out for a week is hardly worth noting to be honest)

We have been blessed with injuries this season

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out
