Fritsch and Hannan

Both seem very very similar players, I thought we woukd go with one, not both. Do you think both can work in the same f50 on top of Harmes, Melksham, Nibbler and Petracca?

I think whilst both are inexperienced we should only have one.

Interested to know others thoughts.

I like them both, and I think they both will have their strengths and weaknesses shown up in good time.

I think we (Mfc), pick the team week by week, on line of form. 

 

I think these 2 could play flank, pocket, wing.  So all is a unfinished D's Omelette as yet.

No doubt the ingredients will change according to what we have available, on most occasions.

Has the potential to be a very damaging combination.  Hannan is very much an impact player and often is very quiet for patches of games.  Fritsch looks likely to have more consistent involvement but is yet to show he can turn a game on its head at this level like Hannan did a few times last year.

Give it a few more matches to see how all the smalls and mediums up forward gel together.

I worry about having too many players that tend to come in and out of games. As others have said, I would've liked to see Brayshaw out there.

It's terrific to have so many medium-sized options in and around the forward line, but I have a feeling we got a bit carried away by the momentum of it today and overstacked. Did it make a goal's difference? Maybe, but only in amongst a thousand other things than make a goal's difference on match day.

I have a lot of belief in Hannan's career blossoming and I'm not to worried about Fritsch.

TBH i like both players, both seem to have potential, but both seem very similar ro me and with so little experience I am not sure we can carry both.

Brayshaw and Tyson must come ito consideration.

I don't know enough to say what rôles Wagner and Maynard played - did they do what was asked of them?

Garlett was hardly seen.

Fritsch showed a lot of talent. All he really needs is a forward line coach to help get him leading to the right spots and knowing when to stay down and crumb. Did it a couple of times. Also looks a long kick so why not have a shot from 52?

Hannan, very quiet early, gave a fair bit late. Didn't kick his crunch late minute goal but I think he did enough.

Similar players but at the same time different enough to work and it's not like we have pure crumbing small forwards or a good 190+ 3rd tall forward available. I like the combination of these two.

Wagner was lamentable in the first half (like many defenders) but much better in the second half (given Geelong scored less than 20 points after half time). I see Wagner as a confidence player - and he played well really late. Stays in my team.

Maynard played as a stopper and it didn't work (39 touches to both Ablett & Selwood). Didn't hurt by foot (not them anyway). Maynard is promising but needs to go for either Tyson or Brayshaw.

These guys are obviously taught to run certain patterns into the forward line and if we get our delivery right the two of them have the potential to cut defences to pieces.

Up to the mids to learn how to deliver the ball to the advantage of these two guys.

The kicking in to the forward line today was terrible, we bombed it in all day.

Maynard made some shocking disposal errors today and having two really inexperienced players in, Fritsch as well probably cost us the game. Tyson for Maynard and we would have been a much more balanced side, you can't just be a stopper in today's game and he didn't do that very well.

We needed to have our best side out on the park today and didn't.

 I think by the structure of the side picked, that we want to be (the footy dept') a more offence based team this year...  to sacrifice a little defence, to be more threatening on the scoreboard.

 

 I hope this is not a membership drive strategy. 

 

Great and strong defence/pressure, is a proven finals winning strategy.

 

I don't want us to go back to the style of demons of the mid 2000's.  With little interest in true defence and pressure.

That's why he needs game into him, for more experience, as does Hannan.

 

 I think the side showed a lot of fight to get back in touch on a number of occasions.

 

These 2 are probably our most natural half-forward players, and skilled.  They need plenty games, to get up to speed in that spot.

The problem was not Mitch or Bayley or both of them. 

We bombed the fall forward and crossed our fingers we could mark or crumb. 

Reality was we handed the ball to  coherent if not inexperienced Cats defence who used skills to run and carry and deliver forward with precision.

We have way too many players in our forward line who go missing for half a game. It's not as though they are having minimal impact in those times, they just go completely missing. I prefer Fritsch over Hannan at this point, and would much rather see us play another midfielder in his place.

Not just the forward line, we hardly touched the ball in the second quarter, there was no on field leadership to steady the ship, we've lacked that for years.

Watching the game you could see Geelong passing the ball from side to side in the backline and then they would strike and we seemed powerless to stop them. Our brand of football looked poor by comparison and  we had no one in the forward line ready to offer a lead, isn't that what the small to medium forwards are there for? 

We lack skilled players.

Getting a little tired of Jeffy and his cameo appearances. Just does not do enough. Nothing will change.

On Sunday, he had a mate in Melksham who looked disinterested and unable or unwilling to impact the contest. 

I  prefer a future with Hannon and Fritsch.

Yet we still could easily have snatched the win, probably should have.

Even though far from perfect there has been considerable progress.

Agreed. His good games are good (not great), but his bad games are really bad. Bailey started out well in the first half, but completely vanished in the second, Hannan was unsighted in the first half, and did a few things in the second.

The youngsters I give more latitude, but Jeffy really needs to deliver regularly or he will be bypassed by these two, and Bugg and maybe Balic or Baker (haven't seen either).

Has anyone seen or heard of Dion Johnstone this year?  And don't forget Dean Kent.
