Frawley and Howe for mine can get stuffed.

Frawley just chased the easy success, and was lucky to win a flag. Howe just carried on like a pork chop, and it's another reason why Collingwood doing so well is infuriating (especially for poor Dunn who will miss out again!).

Watts didn't want out, but he also wasn't all in. He was not invested in making himself better for the betterment of the club. We got Fritsch and I am happy with that. Time to well and truly let go!

Goodwin rightly said 'I am going on holdays and this bloke had better not be here when I get back'.

You don't create success with people like Jack Watts at your club. You create success with people like Harmes, Viney, Max and others that bust a gut. Coasters like Watts are cancerous in a club because young players come in and see that senior players aren't working hard why should they.

Good on the club for taking the hard decision. And I would also bet that the players would now say we are better without him.

This is exactly it. Watts was not treated harshly. Those who feel sorry for him about the way he left just go back to your tea and biscuits and be happy when we get a couple of wins a season. He could have been part of this and maybe now the extreme pain of missing finals with us will be enough of a wake up call to him in that if you keep doing what you've always done, then one day it will come back to haunt you. 

The reason he missed out is his responsibility, stop making excuses for him and move on.

The bloke should be in his absolute prime, he's just had a massive kick up the backside from the club he didn't want to leave, and he's just had his statistically worst year since 2010.

He has the heart of a grape seed.  Lovely bloke, but footy just isn't that important to him.  Some players would kill their Grandmother to get to the footy, but Jack would pass her an Iced VoVo.

Poor form to talk about the size of a players heart, whilst it has proved to be the right call to get rid of him there is little need to include the first sentence. You could easily make your point without including this sentence.

And regardless, it would be quite heartless to kill your 'Grandmother' to get the footy.

Watts was never like that. Came back from a great Xmas and promptly got dropped for all of the pre-season games because he didnt do the required work over the break. He was a lazy coaster with talent. Sylvia got more out of himself than Watts ever did but lazy arsed players like that can never be relied upon to put in at all times. They pick and choose. And in a footyclub that is a cancerous attitude. Jack from all reports is a ripping bloke but doesn't really care about footy. That is great. Just not at my club.

I think another point people may be forgetting is the media commentary that JW was always receiving and Goodwin said in a statement that the narrative wasn’t changing, plus it was distracting to the club. 2017 fuelled fire that his 2016 season did to ease it.

Can you imagine the media commentary this season if he wasn’t in the best 22? For every good news story about us making finals there would be three articles about Jack Watts.

Listen junior burger, I don't care about or consider his first five/six years as relevant.  His teammates were a basket case, his coaches the same.  The entire club was an undisputed embarrassment.  Nothing matters in this time.  He was improving, as the club did.  When was he top 5?  Roosies year?  Before he was hurt last year he helped carry us in our first six or seven games.  This proven by the fact he was in top 5 vote getters up until that point.  He then got hurt and it all went south  Pulled his act together late in the season and was one of the few who showed up against Colllingwood that last game.   He was a servant of the club who put up with more crap than any other player in the games history almost.  He was physically resilient, a reliable goal kicker, one of the best set shots in the game, and an an accurate distributor of the footy.  the only player I can recall that could actually put it on Jesse's chest regularly as opposed to the delivery that Hogan receives now. 

  Why was it a 'hard decision' if he was cancerous?  What would be hard about getting rid of a dud.  You don't make any sense.  Just regurgitating  'skinfold' arguments.  Fat as a fool wasn't he?  Dropped for the pre season games you say.  Was he named in the first week of that season?  Strange selection for a cancerous dud.  He had a sense of humour at an awards night?  deary me.  how dare he?

Of course it doesn’t just happen. There had to be buy in from players and as you pointed out commitment to take things to the next level. 

But I didn’t realise you were able to see into alternate realities and know FOR A FACT that we were never going to improve with him in the team. Even with Gawn, Clarry, Harmes, Brayshaw etc improving apparently Watts was always going to be the one thing that held us back from playing finals. 

I’m sad for him, there’s a sentimental part of me that wishes that he was still with us. The one thing I will say is a definite positive is with him no longer playing for us we don’t have to deal with the media obsession over him.

If we didn’t trade watts then harmes wouldn’t have number 4. Without this number he wouldn’t have won the game for us on Sunday. And therefore we wouldn’t be in the finals. Time to shut down the thread - I think I have nailed it...

You can rant all you like. His year at Port really just puts an exclamation mark on the point that he is a downhill skier. Would add nothing to our side because he doesn't put in.

What you don't seem to get is that the players that put in were mightily peeved at JW for his cavalier attitude. They like Jack but were sick of him. From the horses mouth.

He forfeited the right to be here because he refused to put in. The players lo e Bayley Fritsch because he bleeds for the club. Something JW was incapable of doing.

Scully was more abrupt, and honest in an awkward way.  Instead of continuing to use us, he left us.  Nothing parasitic about what he did. He just lied to us all.  sort of betrayal.

He was happy being a good player. He never wanted to be a great player - and as jnr has pointed out, his continual "close enough is good enough" attitude at Port this year just exemplifies that.

Is that the type of player we want? Not anymore.
