Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

It didn't suit Bugg tonight without all the bashing and crashing but he missed a few too many targets.

It did suit Stretch who just didn't get enough of it.

Probably shouldn't read any more into it than just a training drill.

Stretch has the most possssions of our team in the 1st game mate....

Went to the game last night, thought it was much better live than watching it on tv.

Harmes & Melksham Best players for mine, think Harmes is set for a big year.

Tommy Mac will have a great year up forward also.

Trac has set himself for a good season.

Bugg & Stretch are not in the best 22.

While it is good to see the supporters here making whoppee over winning a 'grand' final,  I noticed the players hardly cracked a smile when the final siren went.  Good to see that they have more serious things on the agenda.

AFLX wasn't created with any of us in mind. In that way, our opinions don't mean much.

That said, I suspect I'm in the minority when I say that I've never understood the push for free-flowing, end to end footy.

AFLX and to some extent, high scoring AFL games look like training drills.

Give me a highly contested arm wrestle where a premium is put on every goal, where the drama builds as each pack forms and where a moment of brilliance can be the difference between winning and losing.

On a more serious note, it's hard to take much from a Mickey Mouse game of 'footy', but a few things stood out.

a) Petracca made me nervous every time he changed direction or went air born, but his ability to keep his feet is outrageous.

b) Melksham and TMac have a vortex like ability to split the middle of the big sticks.

c) Bugg has a distinct lack of ability by foot and will struggle for games as such.

d) Seeing a blonde #4 with tattoos and some mongrel was a refreshing change.

Our intensity around the contest dropped off significantly once he left the squad last year. Not saying he's the difference but he brings it and can be our Didak equivalent. Maybe not an outstanding player but if he finds form he can be a game breaker. imo he's going to surprise a lot here this year just as Nibbler did last year.

Please add context to your post by giving us a clue who it is you are referring to.

You wouldn't have liked footy in the 70's,  80's or the 90's then WA because that is what we generally got ... end-to-end free flowing footy

The players played in their positions too ... I'm just happy that I got to witness those 3 magical decades instead of what we now get.

But each to their own and I might eventually enjoy the current brand of footy.  I'm trying to like it.

I tend to only go to the Demon games or watch the team on the telly ... only watch selected AFL games - maybe 1 other game per week.  I know plenty who now view footy in the same way.  It's their own team and that is about it.

Spot on Dante I agree 100% and the last para is exactly me. If the Dees finished tomorrow so would my interest in AFL.

We're going to be around for quite some time old dee so it's all academic anyway ... but if AFLX prompts the custodians* into fixing the congestion & flooding issue then it will have served its purpose in many ways (that is my view)

*The word custodian isn't really apt as to how I view those who are currently running the game.

Went last night, and agree with others, better live than TV

Confirmed a few points I had gleaned from training

They are listening to the tackling coach we have brought in from Storm

Melksham up forward is going to be a nightmare matchup, can't leave him alone from 60 metres out

Harmes has taken his footy up another notch

Nev told me he was feeling good and ready to go

Seen similar plays at training, this was an upmarket training after all, but Goodwin demands constant effort and we saw that last night and in Hawthorn game a decided lift in intent

Is there anywhere I can watch a replay of this? I saw our first two matches but missed the final one against the Hawks as was out by then. Wouldn't mind seeing it as I imagine it was decent intensity. Plus seeing us win any match is always a deelight!

I thought Fritsch showed some natural ability, and good to see him in a Dees jumper.

He is my Smokey for a big season and once in will probably hold his place up forward as he has an uncanny knack to find the big sticks.

Well if angus tackles like that every game. I will be happy. But it was nice to see a melbourne win. To hear Jb say melbourne are premiers is something I look forward to hearing those words.

While I didn’t watch it and had no interest (not giving up a Friday night for that) if this can do for the club what our night grand final did in 1987, and sign up more potential member, I’d be stoked

Oh, I thought we had won the whole thing.

Shows how closely I am following it, and I'm sure I am not alone in that. :D

Anyways, just 7 days until we play North in a proper footy match.

He's talking about Bugg. I understand his point, Bugg was a 'good luck charm' of sorts in 2017, but don't think it will be enough this season. Will get games when injuries hit.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
