Hope that made sense

What have I told you about using phrases like that on here Drunkin

Think Nev is there to steady the ship at the back and Tommy Mc to get used to being a target up forward

The rest more or less pick themselves

Hunt has had one or two slight hiccups so understand his omission

Not sure why JKH didn't get a run

I would have thought Hunt would be perfect for this format?

I got the impression that Hunt was limited in training pre-Christmas due to some niggle which may have prevented him from being ready or not being rushed/risked for AFLX.

As much as I don't like the concept of AFLX, it'll be good to have a look at Spargo, Baker, Fritsch and Johnstone.

I think I said it's on the WatchAFL app which is available to all foreign subscribers. As I understand it that is the "Global Pass"

The WatchAFL website is showing the AFLX as being part of the coverage:

https://www.watchafl.com.au/

Also, unless I'm mistaken, they're giving 2 weeks free.

So just FYI for everyone whose worried about whatever

The club focused on using players who will benefit with a low contested/high speed game but also those who need a lighter work load

With the shorter field and shorter game times, it's about 3 or 4 times less of a work load playing this game then doing a full preseason training session (hence the use of 3x 1st year players for example) since those selected will do this in place of 1 days full training

Hope that made sense

Makes total sense. Add the fact that it replaces a jlt game and you can see why i reckon tbe coaches would prefer to play aflx to jlt games and even intra clubs game.

The aflx will replace the pre season games from next season. Take it to the bank

Great chance to whet the appetite for something that kind of looks like football as well as see some of the kids that we may not get much of a show to see unless you attend Casey games. Ecstatic that we seem to be making this all about how do we use it to maximise real season preparation and not much else.

I also reckon in time tbat the aflw might trial the format. Would help with the issue of the thin talent pool

Melbourne AFLX squad

  1. James Harmes
  2. Christian Petracca
  3. Charlie Spargo
  4. Angus Brayshaw
  5. Billy Stretch
  6. Jake Melksham
  7. Corey Maynard
  8. Tom McDonald
  9. Alex Neal-Bullen
  10. Bayley Fritsch
  11. Tomas Bugg
  12. Oskar Baker
  13. Dion Johnstone
  14. Neville Jetta
  15. Josh Wagner

I wouldn't have Petracca TMac or Jetta in there but otherwise it's about what I had expected/hoped

I like the idea of getting Tom as much match practice as possible and the format will be good for a forward who needs to work on leading patterns.

My theory on Pertracca and Jetta is that they are 2 guys who aren't natural runners but are very competitive and so get more of a fitness benefit from playing a game.

Great comment. Need that sarcasm button.

Looking at other teams lists, no club is taking this seriously as expected. The only benefit from this Mickey Mouse version of the game, is getting to see the no namers having a run.

I wonder if the afl tried requesting certain players from each club to try and boost viewing.

It will be a mild failure, but we will have to endure the AFL and it’s media puppets telling us all what a massive success it was.

It will be an abject failure.

It reminds me of those fb outbrains where someone orders X dress and gets a sack of many colours resembling picture ( not )

Its a nonsense. FOOTY is Footy.

Going to a rectangular pitch it becomes the offspring of a drunken night between Basketball and Soccer !!!

I cant see it lasting, but I'll give it a watch.

I will be watching the womens curling at the Olympics instead.

I love the way people dismiss this without having actually seen the game being played.

Sure it's not the real thing, but who cares... it may still be an entertaining event and it will, if nothing else, give us a bit of a look at some of the skills that the likes of Baker, Spargo and Fritch are bringing to the club.

I'm no fan of rugby league or union, but the stripped down versions (7's) of their games are very watchable.

Originally i didn't care, but the closer it gets the more excited i seem to be :)! Looking forward to it and especially seeing the young talent on the park for the first time (Spargo in particular).

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
