Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Judging by Jones' comments it sounds like the club leaders are sick of his lazy attitude to preparation and are not fussed if he goes

I hear exit interviews are very honest these days...

They will tell those of their presence on the trade block. I reckon about 10 would be on the block.

I wonder if other's are sick of him ( NJ ) kicking it to the opposition with unerring regularity ?

I would be good if Watts applied himself with Jones like vigour. Be good if Jones kicked like Watts too.

I reckon RPFC is on the money...no one will be left  second guessing where they stand.

Listened to the interview and all this talk about habits, making the right decisions outside the club, McCartney talking about falling into old habits, comments in Roos' book; all points to a severe mismanagement of our young players in the Bailey and Neeld years and setting the right professional habits.

Watts clearly had no idea how to be a professional athlete until Roos entered the club and this set back his development years and years. Old habits die hard and if he doesn't get traded this year then, after what has now been communicated to him, then he'll be playing a lot of VFL football next year if he doesn't demonstrate some change in these professional habits.

If we have a senior player which can't be trusted from his time away from the club then it's time to cut ties.

How can you be paid like a professional but not prepare like one!!

Get rid of him, clearly does not have what it takes, he is soft, & looks to be having a negative effect on "a few younger players"

There is time for these other players, but if Jack hadn't figured this out yet he never will.

His heart is clearly not in it .. You could see him just going through the motions this year .. He needs a fresh start elsewhere, and I reckon Brisbane or Gold Coast would be a good fit.. Perfect location for him to market his 'Skowsh' board shorts.

Get rid of the 35 blokes on the list who can't kick first.

Crawling up the duodenum of the coach is not the answer for those who assume to know what he does in private.

I blame the tackling coach of the defensive coach for his faults.

yet to see the perfect player.

Yeah, his heart is not in it. No emotion when goals are kicked by teammates or himself. Ever notice that Watts is one of the first to celebrate. Heart not in it when he kicked the goal against Collingwood.

Jones:  "...That's probably why we tend to come down harder on him, because he's a more senior player."

I'm glad someone finally admitted the club is harder on Jack than it is others.  That has long be a suspicion of mine.  Among the harsh public talk about Jack by Coach, Captains and even young players there has rarely been a positive word/encouragement to go with it.  Makes me wonder if Jack has become the whipping boy inside the club as well?  Very said if so.

A post goal celebration isn't what I'm looking for in a player.

I highly doubt that - Jones goes on to say in the interview that he has been part of the AFL system for longer and should know better.  The fact that he is still doing some of these things would frustrate the players no end.

With the younger players you could argue that they need to be educated and understand what it takes to be an AFL player.  I'm sure we handled the Oliver situation differently than if it had of been a senior player as they should already know better.

I don't see it as picking on Watts, so to speak, just our leaders ensuring that the standards that are set are met by ALL players, and they are standards that should not be broken and be clearly understood by senior players more than anyone.

This is what I find interesting, both the Coach and now the Captain have had a crack at Watts pretty openly through the media.  I don't think you do that to a bloke you are trying to trade, the only result is decreasing his trade value.  I think the club just wants him to have a red hot crack in 2018 and we are going to poke him and poke him so he comes back with the I am going to stick it up everyone attitude.

He hasnt done that in 9 seasons, why will he now?

This is a new era for the MFC, and Watts doesn't fit in. Hes probably the last remnant of the dark years and is hopefully shipped out.

I don't disagree, but if you want someone out you need to sell them to get maximum return.  If you are a club hearing that from the captain you drop your offer to a third round pick

I fully expect that all players meet standards but I also expect they be treated equally at least in public.   99% of the public dialogue from the club about Jack this year has been on the negative side.  Even when Jack has played a really good game he has rarely received public praise or recognition.

Other players at the club or in the AFL don't get talked about by their club in this way on a regular basis.  I find it disappointing that our club chooses a negative narrative on one of our own.  They know the media will lap up every negative comment about Jack, yet they feed it.  Why I don't know.

He said "because he's a senior player" not "because he's Jack Watts"

Some of the criticism is over the top however he is criticised for good reason.

Do you really think Jack is the only senior player that is recalcitrant from time to time?  That he is the only senior player that has his activities questioned by the club?

Yet such senior players don't have negative public comments made by the club let alone a negative public narrative run on them over a whole season.

It is that that I find inconsistent and therefore distasteful.

OK.

I find it reasonable to have expectations of excellence and the only way that we could ever hope to see us unfurl the flag again.

Was about to say the same thing.... I can't see why the club, in this case the captain, would be going public about Watts if it was about to put him on the trade table. Fire him up now, prior to the pre-season to make sure 2018 is as good as it can be!

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
