I'm not sure if it's been said and sorry if it has but Viney's latest foot injury is different to the plantar fascia related surgery he had..

That's quite worrying. Mahoney specifies this on our website.

General manager of football operations Josh Mahoney said Viney’s foot injury was different to his previous setback;

“He pulled up sore in his foot, but his previous plantar fascia injury is fine,” he told melbournefc.com.au.

“He’s got a different injury to his foot, which he pulled up sore from on the weekend.

“He’ll have this weekend off and we expect him to be available next week.”

Presumably he has had a MRI +/- bone scan.  Hope they aren't hiding something.

Viney's foot injuries are a concern and need a good rest.

Dont rush him back. If he is available for 1st final assuming we make it. Play him then. That will give him 4 weeks of injury management.

If we are going to win against the Lions and Pies I am sure the boys will step up and cover his loss.

Sure there was a poster on here just after Jesse broke his collarbone whose doctor mate told him if he had a plate inserted he could possibly play in 2 weeks if no complications.

Stretch for Viney. Obviously weid out for Hogan. Just put Hogan at FF.

Strange that JKH did not get a role in Viney's absence.

None of the VFL regulars have grabbed their oppotunity when granted.

Perhaps Maynard this week but not full of confidence.

The Hogan selection is a surprise... will be interesting to see if we can get our forward line functioning again. It has not really worked for several weeks.

Another big game... Go Dees

This will be Jesse's 50th game!

It has taken 4 difficult years, with many obstacles.  Have huge admiration for how you have tackled and overcome them.

Congratulations on the milestone.

Hope the team bring it home for you and for us!

Viney is a massive loss, especially against Brisbane's midfield.

I was always concerned that his foot would never get a chance to recover by coming back so soon.

Apart from his injured foot, I'm not too concerned that he's out of the team. Having Jones back, particularly if he plays like last week, really picks up the slack in the stoppages/clearance area.

Also, with Gus back in the team we've picked up another very handy player who based of last weeks game will help cover any loss Viney presents.

A second week of Brayshaw magic is keenly awaited.

We start well, break their spirits and cruise to a win.

We get a slow start, give them belief, and there'll be a lot of nervous Dees fans!

Please can we just do it easy for once?

Brisbanes mids are surprisingly good on paper. No idea how they are bottom.

beams, zorko, rocklif, mccluggage, Lewis Taylor, rich, bastinac and a very handy mobile ruckman.

They have class in defense with Andrews and mcstay. Both have played 50+ games and forwards with hipwood.

wouldnt surprise me if they are playing finals in a couple of years.

Taylor, Rich, Bastinac are very average.

Rockliff has never been an impact player, despite his big numbers.

Beams is good when hes the cream on top of a great midfield. Zorko is having a great season but hes no star.

They can hang against the bottom teams, but our midfield blows them off the park.

Zorko has had a great few seasons and is a star. Would be a massive player if in Geelong or Adelaide or any other top side. I'm worried about Hipwood tbh, another gorilla (or giraffe) fwd. Our midfields will either neutralize each other, or we'll come out on top and the rest of our class across the board should shine (Jetta, Garlett, Hibbo, Petracca etc) Having TMAC back reflects this dire need to sure up our last line of defence over the next month with Frost assumedly falling our of favor. We can afford to let our mids and forwards be creative enough to create the scores, if we're willing to build an elite defensive unit and let the chips fall where they may in other areas.

I'm surprised Frost isn't back to play on Hipwood.

Same. Overall I have been happy with Frost & O Mac's development down back this year.

Could there be more to him not being selected? I'm sure his contract it up at years end, and the paranoia in me says he is off to another club. Again, this is based on noting but my paranoia.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
