That's where they can be exploited. IF their tall fwds don't mark the ball it can come out pretty quickly. Its good that a few of their talls are out but we aren't very good at defending against tall defenders in general.

We have been very patchy since our big win against the bullies in round 13. And in that period we have struggled in two key areas: our midfield (in particular with our intensity) and our ability to kick a winning score.

Consequently I have two key, interconnected, concerns about this game.

One, we are in big trouble if our midfield does not bring the required pressure and intensity. It was instructive to hear Goody say in his presser yesterday:

"We're looking forward to our midfield coming back together, we've probably lacked a bit of continuity in that area of the ground for a number of weeks now."

Except for Gus this is the best midfield we can field. No excuses. I'm really looking forward to seeing what Maynard brings and i'm confident that Viney and Jones can lead the way in the pressure and intensity stakes. Bernie owes us also.

Since that round 13 game against the bullies, where we really clicked, we have really struggled to put a winning score on the board. In that time only one team has scored more than 100 points against us - the top of table, high scoring Crows unit. yet we have lost games because we haven't been able to cross the critical 100 point barrier once. Good thing we have Tmac up there or we would not have won the two games we won in that period. 

Watts really needs to stand up. I was really disappointed with his game last week and in Jessie' absence and our final campaign at stake he simply has to take control and be a leader. We can't be relying on Jeffy to be our leading goal scorer so players like harmes, Petracca and Pederson also have to contribute goals.

Of course our scoring ability is related to our pressure but also our woeful forward entries. We simply cannot afford to waste so many chances going inside 50. 

The time is now for the dees. I'll be furious if they don't bring the pressure and can't sort out their scoring this week.

I admire your positive outlook, for now, but it was only a few days that you were raging hard, labelling the players cowards and saying it was another false dawn.

Must be tough being you during the season.

There's no doubt in my mind that we're capable of beating them - particularly now that they have some real lack of scoring power.

I still rate our win in Adelaide against the Crows as our benchmark game. The pressure we applied was insane and the tackles were crunching. 

We need to replicate that performance so badly tomorrow. It's a taxing style of play and quite understanderbly a key variable in why our performances have been up and down as the years has progressed.

I hope Jones and Vince come in breathing fire and add that physicality we were missing last week. I want to see Pedo step straight up again like he did when he got his opportunity earlier this year. The big man can play.

I'm tipping a win but gee wiz I reckon there's going to be some fierce contests and sore bodies come out of this game.

I've tipped GWS, so we've got a good chance!

It's been said but one of the biggest variables so our game is our intensity with tackling pressure. When that dips so does the rest of our game, we need to get back to the level we produced vs Adelaide. 

I want big games from Vince, Watts, and Lewis. All of them owe the team good games for various reasons and they are leaders. Time to stand up. 

I also want to see Petracca back to his best, he was close to ineffectual in the last quarter (only quarter I was able to watch), he's young but he's a game breaker. He also doesn't like staying off for a while, would love to see him put in a dominating 4 quarter effort v GWS. 

Like many games this year, I have no doubt we CAN win. Much of it is dependent on how the players respond from last weeks pathetically stupid loss.

Patton out is a huge bonus. Big pressure on an out of form Lobb, like Watts for us.

we didn't seem to like the cold in Hobart last week.....and having arrived in Canberra today I can confirm at 3.10pm the BOM listed the "feels like" temp at -0.1!!!! Yep, bloody freezing up here, colder than Hobart.

cmon Dees, time to lift and get some form and momentum back.

Agree that this is critical.  I've got a sneaky feeling that Mumford won't play - they talked about him needing a couple of weeks off after the Richmond game due to his ankle and Dawson Simpson is an emergency.  Will be interesting to see just how fit Mumford is if he does play

Good post. Our forward pressure has been okay but our entries have been shocking and the opposition has been reading us extremely well in most games since the Bulldogs game. 

Although our Port game I thought was very good. We attacked superbly in the first half but people underrate Port and think we should have won by 100 points, but Port tightened up defensively and upped the annte offensively. We held up across the ground extremely well but it shows how important it is to score highly and often to get a leg up. Defensively I think we're very good despite what some here think, structurally it's arguably our most coherent and consistent part of the team. Our mids and half forwards particularly Watts need to step up. ANB and Garlett are playing their roles. Stats show their pressure acts are elite. We need more cohesion going forward.
