That's a relief, I thought he was going to that nirvana Ashburton for a moment.

Tasmanian version of Peter Siddle.

Might I add in addition to how this helps Weid... Imagine the freedom a player like Brown will create for Fritsch.

Very exciting.

agreed. Its going to be a vary tall forward line with Brown Weid and a fast developing Jackson showing he can more than pinch hit up forward.

We now really need to get in a couple of small runners to help Kozzie apply pressure.

A player who played at the highest level, got the best out of himself, gave his all to the cause and had some really good moments but was very reliable and solid. Nice!!

Ideally we are able to entice another crumbing / pressure forward to come across too.  The we would have a dangerous forward line!

Is it possible to do this, grab an outside winger and keep a top 30 pick?  For essentially Pruess / Hannan / ANB / TMac

The piece we were missing in the players puzzle.

Yze is the Clarkson protoge we were missing in the coaches box

2021 is our year.

Reasonably pleased to hear Ben Brown wishes to join the Demons. A bit of positive news!

Let's hope Darren Burgess can get him fit and firing with a good pre-season under his belt.

It will be interesting if he wishes to keep number 50 and wear that at the Demons? I am not against that possibiliity if Ben wants to keep wearing that number even if it is quite a high one. Have the Demons had many players wear number 50? ?

Tie up Jackson and Ollie and Goody might get another year after 2021 yet......

I reckon with a good pre season as well you could be right ?

I’m really happy about this. You have to have a plan to beat the guy. No disrespect to Mitch Brown but he’s not exactly keeping the opposition defence coach up at night. He will definitely make us harder to defend against - which opens the doors for others.

On ya Ben. Can’t wait to yell out ‘Bennnnnnyyyyyy!’ at the G for the next 5 years.

Ben  Brown   likes Melbourne it reminds him of North. Only now it will be Melbourne. Staying close to home.

I won't mind your run up when you have a shot for goal.    I think i will start to like it now.

A good fit for the DEES!

As with most of you very happy with this news and he can only improve us IF FIT. Now for TMac. If he does not get picked up I'd keep and play CHB, May FB and Lever to float as he does best. Lever is not a key position player so Tom back and also fit will, in my opinion make us even stronger.

Haha..yes!

I like the name Sideshow, but I wonder what North supporters called him? And Brown's response?

Goodbye jako13 - it's been a wonderful 12 years as my name on here.

Aaaaand a huge welcome to Sideshow Bob

With all the other moves going on right now, I feel like this one will slip under the radar a little, but will make us a much better side in the process.  I like that we went about this quietly and did our due diligence.

As others have said, Brown is a proven goalkicker who will add a different element to our forward line.  Weid can play tall and I'm excited at the prospect of Jackson floating across half forward.  The big fella will almost be a roaming type player who can pluck marks, do some dirty work at ground level and give big Max a chop out in the ruck.

If we get him over for this years second rounder then we've come out of this very, very well.

They called him Sideshow Bob

The impact of this acquisition could be huge.

Not many clubs will be able to nullify all of Brown, Weid and Jackson in any one game.

Jackson will likely play up the ground which will probably suit him. This means Fritta will get 3rd or 4th defender, and, if Yze can assist his goal kicking, he could have a massive year.

Throw in a little stint forward for Petracca...WOW...that could be enough to send cheese platters crashing to the ground off the excited laps of many.

Desperately need another small to compliment the talls. Brown, Weid, Jackson, Pickett are a few great pieces of the puzzle, Tracc resting forward with another Pickett type acquisition will make us a lot more dangerous.

We're definitely making finals next year if he kicks 60 goals.

And his set shot routine automatically allows our forwards time to reset to lock the ball in forward 50.

Loving this signing. Welcome to the club Bluey/Brownie.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
