Remind me of how valuable he was in the second half when Adelaide were playing without Sloane?

Actually, it was the last quarter as he was concussed just before 3/4 time.

It's worth giving Bernie credit for keeping Sloane to 8 touches to that point.

However we can both agree his two hits were stupid.

Betts should be insufficient force, if he does get charged then the club MUST make a big thing of it after Schofield was give then all clear.

The bump is 50/50, I feel like he had eyes for the ball and braced himself when he saw the Adelaide player coming out the corner of his eye. But he has a bad record so if he gets anything it could go up to 2-3.

I'm really trying to look at it impartially, his actions are that he's down to pick the ball up, he second action comes when he sees the Adelaide player coming, he doesn't  lunge into the player he rather seems to slow and brace. The question to ask is what's his alternative? If he kept going it's probable that he would've copped head contact himself, his saving grace could be the fact he put one of his legs out to stop. As I said it's 50/50 and given our record this year it's probably going to fall on the negative side for us.

That's the thing, it should initially just be judged on the incident, record should only come into it after that

Interestingly, they showed an off the ball elbow from Jackson Trengove which they think should be 1 week which would see him miss our game next week.

Trengove will probably just get a fine. Those segments on the AFL website always over estimate the penalty.

Gary Lyon on SEN this morning mentioned that the club had told Vince to pull his head in with respect to his onfield behavior, and that was before the weekend! I'd imagine they'd be beyond livid with him now and will probably keep this in mind during list management discussions.

Agree with both of these points.

At normal speed you caould almost see the indecision in Bernie's eyes as he though "do I go for the ball" Do I bump" "do I jump out of the way"

It's terrible that players are having to second guess these things and get penalised. Its a split second decision.

I understand trying to protect the head (altho this is now unclear after the Schofiled incident) but it is taking a lot of instinct out of the game.

My particular beef is the one where a player jumps on a ground ball only to be penalised for taking out a players legs. This rule was designed to stop the Goodes and Lyndsay Thomas' of the world sliding into players legs. I agree with that interpretation. But now any player that gets caught 'below' a players knees is in danger of giving a free away.

While we are on it, TWICE on the weekend I saw a Melbourne player play opn from a mark only to be impeded by a Crow player that was within 10m of the mark. This is a clear 50m penalty and was not paid on either occasion. Happened last week when Hibberd played on and Silvagni was about 3m away.

The umps are being selective about when they pay frees and it is damaging the game.

Unbelievable.   Hes right there on video hitting the guy in the face.

How do the AFL get away with such corruption?

To claim the available footage is inconclusive is a disgrace, it was plain as day from the angle shown during the game.

The betting agencies wouldn't be happy with Dusty being banned, since the AFL is controlled by them, it's no surprise Dusty has been cleared.

I think it's time for Gil and the boys to quit attempting to be a moral compass.

AFL saw fit running an article 'Weekends Off at Bernies" venturing on how many weeks he'd get - a good 48 hours before official review.

Should the AFL (between its own in-office family-wrecking bonk-fests)  be allowed to do this??

Also IMO many on here are a tad quick in forgetting what Bernie had given us these past years.

Yeah, Bernie is guilty. I have no issue with that. However, journalists deciding that Dustin Martin is not guilty and providing potential defences for him on the AFL website is not on.

Cant believe what im reading re Martin.......high, intentional, contact to the head? Like how is it even defendable?

An all new low for the AFL.

I didn't see that. Is that the AFL segment run by Schmuk?

So inappropriate to have one of their media guys making comments in advance of the MRP - never heard of sub judice?

I actually cant believe people think that bump is worthy or suspension. 100% going for the ball (and nearly got it) until the last split second. Not sure what you think he should have done!!??

It was the title of Schucks article. Well almost, it should have read "Inconclusive vision set to clear Dusty"

I agree, people should go to 6:35 in the below video and see what Zak Jones got off for doing to Hannan.

Evaporate is clearly the best option. he gave away a 50 last week because he was a tiny bit late for the contest and couldn't evaporate into thin air and his momentum carried him into the player who took the mark as well. Really baffled what the AFl think the players should do. Maybe draws straws to see who gets the ball next!

Hadn't watched that Jones one, how the hell did he get off for that! Had no interest in the ball and chose to bump the head instead. Put Hannon on his arse for a bit too!

Unbeliavable!

Inconclusive video evidence?

The cameras can catch you pulling out a $50 from your wallet in the hot dog stand but there's no further vision of Dusty....

Only hope is the Crows look after Bernie with both incident reports stating there were no ill effects to either player.

Considering Don Pyke highlighted the Vince 'high bump' in his presser I don't think this is gonna happen.

For some reason there was no media attention for this incident at all, it's a disgrace.

On the Sydney website following Jones being cleared, this is what they said about the incident:

http://www.sydneyswans.com.au/news/2017-07-03/duo-cleared-by-mrp

"The ball was loose with both players coming to the contest. Jones runs through the line of the ball and seeks to hit or tap the ball with his right hand to his advantage, making contact with the ball. At the same moment, he braces for contact with Hannan and high contact is made to the Melbourne player.

It was the view of the panel that Jones was contesting the ball and no further action was taken."

The part in bold is a straight-up lie.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
