Breed them tough and controlled down Clarence Garden SA way no doubt???.

'And the umps run the ball back to the Clarence Garden for the restart after Hogan snags his sixth.' A new nickname for the centre-circle. Choo-choo!

We are Melbourne and everyone else can get [censored]

Basically this. Growing tired of these gutter-level media parasites more focused on the next trivial scandal than our footy. Get stuffed.

Lewis was similarly dismissive last week on 360 when Robbo made some utterly inane and moronic comments questioning our culture (like Robbo knows the first thing about it).

Jeez he was very forthright in addressing Jay Clark's question. Very much a 'i don't care what the external world thinks culture should look like, i will decide what my teams culture will be'. A big middle finger to all the keyboard warrior Journalists and even Bolton, in thinking that their perspective on what culture is, should be universal.

Goodwin has really grown into the role of being able to present well to the media. He was scratchy when he first started as coach during the JLT series in 2016, but he is now able to compose himself and be very direct.

"Look i'll sit down with Clayton, if that's what happened, i'll sit down, but clearly Clayton's not going to react to something.....unnecessarily. So let's wait and get all the information on the table eh? Before we start....criticising people"

Too [censored] right! I'm not one that has developed the confidence in his coaching ability to blindly follow Goodwin, but after his press conference performance today, that blindfold isn't looking too daunting.

If it was nev and not Oliver that Carlton fan would be dragged out of the ground and no one would question the player, that said there is no such thing as bad culture or good culture at footy clubs its all buzz words there is only two types of cultures at football teams a winning one and a losing one, we are in the 8 Carlton are not, winning is good and losing is bad. They way the media is going at Oliver is a form of bullying.

Would not be surprised if Carlton had been acting under instructions from the AFL/Media to knock this mob (MFC) out of the Finals race.

This would be as punishment for them, MFC daring to act like the Phoenix. And it would be in line with the constant physical abuse/ niggle of the best kids/older players, as all bad sports follow these lines of attack.

To win this game was an imperative. We succeeded and the journey continues.......

It was a very good presser. He is very articulate and able to direct a very pointed message.

Compare him to Bolton, I could only watch 4 minutes of his after match and it was filled with Ums and err after every 3 words. Then he tried to pull out some poor analogy that would probably be eaten up by the neanderthal blues supporter who was over the fence giving clarry a verbal.

You can almost imagine how good the message is coming across to the players from that postmatch.

Further he never looks flustered. No Scott brother antics, or smashing phones. Controlled, focused, considered and directed.

I wanted to break Bolton's Jaw during the game he's right along side the Scott brothers for arrogance and whinging. Cover your mouth up some more while your swearing you inbred krunt.

Going by the press conference, it's as if he said a big 'Fark you' to the media for all the flak we've copped in the media this week.

Behind closed doors I reckon he has written on the white board in capital letters 'Us vs the world'

Go get em Goody!

My best bit was when they asked a questions along the lines of ... where you upset about the way the clubs culture was called into question last week.

He said he wasn't but he was actually filthy about it and then proceed to state that it was more that some people don't know what culture actually is. Referring to most journo's who have never kicked an aussie rules footy in anger

I think that Simon's press conferences have all been excellent in that he has lucidly explained that:

  • we are a developing team.
  • often teams have injuries
  • our group is learning to have trust in each other and their role in the group
  • he will have a little chat to whoever and.... not throw the player to the wolves (Media)
  • we have criteria by which we guage how we are progressing
  • our idea of culture is formulated amongst our group ,not in the CH 7 /Newscorp running sheets.
  • Well done to many unsung blokes

All in all he comes across as a manager of people. Well done.

great stuff from Lewis. taking the pi$$ out of the media and the 'experts'.  and his words about Jetta are awesome too!

"I don’t want to pump up his tyres too much, but I reckon he’s the most underrated backline player in the competition – he’s extraordinary"

Liked his interview also. It was a smart choice by the club to have Lewis address the media knowing he understands culture better than most and can hit their headline seeking questions for 6

I only had to look this morning at that photo of Goody and Kent in the Age, to realize again, how good Goody is, with being nice to people.A very expressive photo it is as well......

Fair enough, but my comments are not particularly directed to us, but if someone out there reads them, it might jog the "little gray matters" enough. In regard to the second para......yes, they would and probably partially.........

Steely and direct "I am clear what it looks like......" , bet Jay wishes he hadn't asked that question.

On the contrary.  I think it was a Dorothy Dixer.

Goodwin wanted the question.  He wanted to address the question of culture and he expressed his views with such clarity and force it was like a prepared statement to the footy world.  He wanted to show the footy world that he is in it with his players but that he is their leader and he sets the standards.

He's outstanding with his clarity of communication.  From the outside he appears to be an outstanding coach and the players appear to love him.  A great get by Jackson, Mahoney and Roos.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
