Reminds me of the old adage 'birds of a feather stick together'!  I would have thought Houli would keep his head down given he is serving a 4 week suspension for knocking a player unconscious.

The thing that irks me about Houli giving him a reference is he is obviously ignoring the fact that Fahour has already been reported (earlier this year?) and also back in 2012 (?) he jumped the fence and attacked a spectator.... hardly a good character

Some clown dongs a guy in a footy melee - wow that's rare. Leigh Mathews calls for red cards! FMD if they had them in his day, Mathews would have lasted about 1 quarter per game.

It was a nasty act to be sure but we've all seen as bad or worse in AFL matches over the years - and Mathews contributed to more than one of them.

What shits me about this, is the readiness of so many to jump on the bandwagon of sanctimony.

Have a look around folks! There is bad [censored] happening all the time. You might be off spending the outrage on our shitty popularist politicians and convincing them to act in the public interest rather than mere vote catching. Let the appropriate tribunal deal with this dh.

The one that he used to decide whether or not to head off to France was poorly worded - the respondents obviously thought that the question was "should he relocate to France permanently"?

Come on BBO, I know you are partial to a good flogging but this was an unproved king hit that caused a player in an suburban comp to miss work, together with the fact that it was an escalation of a pattern of behaviour. It is also aggravated by the fact that this guy's job with the AFL is to try and change people's attitudes and behaviour. He deserves everything he got from the tribunal and should lose his job.

His position certainly became untenable. 

Had he been done for drink driving, or snorting drugs or punching someone playing tennis I'd say it isn't linked to his work and he should stay. But he was caught inflicting a huge hit to an opponent playing in a competition overseen and answerable to his employer. He had to go.

His religion, his job title at the AFL or the conditions under which he got his job should be irrelevant to the outcome imo.

He cant continue to put his hand out every Thursday working for a business with a key responsibly being to protect the image of the game. Because of his violent past he is now no longer able to play the game at any level. He cant remain as an administrator on any level.

Despite what I said before about him getting what he deserved I must concede his behaviour since the incident has been exemplary- he's not tried to hide, has admitted his mistake, accepted the penalty, is seeking help with his anger issues and has voluntarily stepped down, saving the AFL a lot of embarrassment. I hope is left alone nw to move on with his life.
