Helluva half of footy. So the umpires have no way to pay a free in that situation? Surely it's a free from the centre at the start of the next quarter. That rule would stop a lot of those half-time "meleés".

Loved that quarter from our boys, got on top around the contest and finished strong. Just need to keep our feet and make the most of our set shots and we got this. Go dees!

Why would he dive? It was after the siren, so there's no free kick. All he'd be doing is making himself look like a dill.

The angle on tv didn't do it justice, but I doubt Oliver would be holding his mouth if he wasn't hit in the face. He isn't that sort of player. Nor would the umpire put a report.

As we all know, you're fighting a 4 goal umpiring bias in the west, and you'll never see a more obvious example than Jeffy's perfect dispossessing tackle in that last bit. The very definition of spineless, unaccountable umpiring.

We're leading in Perth despite having about 5 players with either no influence or playing awfully - Garlett, Pedersen and Melksham all struggling, Hunt and Oliver being tagged out of it.

I can't believe how good Gawn has been after a 10 week layoff. Viney playing his best game for a year, if not longer, Tyson dominating in the clearances.

ANB's decision to kick instead of pass to Bugg was a bad one. Hannan should have kicked his late shot too. Either of those give us a nicer buffer but I'm pleased to be leading in the circumstances.

And on that last skirmish, either Schofield is a dog or Oliver will be copping a fine for staging. I'd be surprised if Oliver would take a dive like that but it did not look like much contact, that's for sure.

Agreed. Nothing in it. Intent was there. Execution was terrible. Oliver gets the Razzie for worst performance in a supporting role.

    Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields.     Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years.
