Problem with our club is we are losers.

Have been pretty much all my life.

The club accepts it, the players join in when they get to the club. We accept mediocrity like kids accept chocolate.

How a club like ours can continually lose against teams below or around us is oustanding. Absolutely outstanding.

There is no heart, no soul to this club. We are a business with players who have a job. No passion, just a job to keep as long as they can before phase two of their life begins.

Like the stereotype disfunctional public service department with poor culture. Hire talented people and pay well who end up doing bugger all.

That's just a complete cop out. They've been good enough to win every game so far, the fact they haven't isn't because of youth.

Well what is it then ? Are the likes of Petracca, Hunt, Hogan, Oliver, Salem, Frost not up to it ? Goodwins not up to it ? Our older heads in Vince, Jones, Lewis, McDonald aren't up to it ? Why haven't we won these winnable games ?

My opinion is we wont be a good side until the younger players I mentioned added to Stretch, Kent, Viney, Brayshaw, ANB are the ones driving the club once they all reach 80+ games and it's Not Vince, Jones, Lewis

Year after year after year. I feel so let down. Again we have given the opposition the 4 points through our basic mistakes.

Cant be bothered looking it up!

4-3 with a higher % too. We had also already travelled interstate, so we've had an easier draw this year and gone backwards.

Our history suggests that ..  but can culture carry over to a new playing list, coaches, CEO , president?

Hey guys,

First time long time...

I'm feeling optimistic. That 3rd q was electric. Not since 98 have we looked so dangerous. Our best footy is very very good!

Our midfielders are learning to survive without Gawn's silver service. This can only make them better players. Trick is finding enough wins to stay in touch of the top 8. I think we can. Pretty nice draw this year. Get Gawn and Joel Smith back (who looked incredible for a first gamer)

Our defense is blistering!  Frost and Hunt running off halfback is so exciting!  Hogan looking very dangerous too. We're not far away!

Good teams find a way to play 4qtrs of footy... I agree when we play well it's great .,  but the when we play poor it's terrible ... we're not a good team until we play well consistently ..

Agree the numbers say that, but I have been to every minute of every game-   It wont placate the masses to say we "could" be 7-0 but we indeed have been in with a winning chance in every game.  This is unlike other years.  We are a much better side, we just havent got the job done as we could have.  I would rather be in every game, and have a solid game plan, than bob up every now and then with a stirring win against the odds.  I go to every game now believing we can win, this hasnt happened fora very very long time.  I am as frustrated as anyone with 3-4, but there is lots of upside if you get past the disappointment.

Hawthorn are on the decline. Their skills have been woeful this season. Their experienced players are slow. When spuds like Langford and O'Brien star all day is an indictment on us. They still know how to take mug sides like us that think the game is won before the first bounce though.

Yeah really on the decline, they comprehensively towelled us up in the first half. Our blokes are not serious AFL footballers!  Far too many have an inflated opinion of their ability and it shows in our attitudes far far too often, If Rudy Webster was around he would be able to write a thesis on our mnidsets.

Not good enough for long enough and too many just satisfied playing afl and thats where it ends. Don't hurt enough!

1. I noticed that we continually crowd the ball. Way too many around the contest. Hence when we win it we handball to a player that is .5m away and generally stationary. In contrast the Hawks positioned their players much further away so that when we won contested posession (which the Hawks have never been good at and don't really rate it as a stat) we flick it out and guess what? There are Hawk players ready to pounce and run away with it.

It happened time and time again and was exemplified by Hunt's chase/tackle and Salem running in close to 'assist' but finding the Hawk player had got the ball out to Salem's opponent.

2. As for the 4/5 flying for the ball in the backline it was frustrating in the extreme.

3. Oppo teams also know that we handball too much and in the 4th qtr the Hawk tackle stats went through the roof. They knew that if they pressured us and stopped our run we would turn it over. We duly obliged.

In short we are still playing dumb football and our leaders need ton control what happens out on the ground much more.

Terry Wallace just saying on SEN that Melbourne will never have real success while the McDonald brothers play in the same side.

Says while they are athletic and can intercept, they are very poor decision makers and ultimately cost the team.

Whats more depressing than losing?

Reading the negativity, criticism and bagging of players, coaches and Club.

There are winners and losers in football as there is in life.

In many countries there is poverty, deprivation and a life without future. However, people remain happy. They have faith, hope, patience and also optimism for their future or their children's future.

So if you see no future for the MFC and if all that comes to mind are negative thoughts.....then for God's sake give it away. If there is one worse thing about watching your team go down at the MCG, its sitting near a bunch of whinging Melbourne supporters bagging their own players. I can think of many occasions when I have got close to decking some of our supporters for the comments that they shout out.

Have faith, optimism and positive thoughts or give it up and make your life and the life of family and friends a happier one.  Did the Bulldog supporters give up on their beloved club. No, and look what happened. After years of frustration and disappointment, they won a flag.

Losing brings disappointment and frustration. It dents your expectation, confidence and hope. However, there is always next week and a win will bring renewal of these things. The best posts are those where their authors have constructive comments about where improvement can come from, such as selection, team balance, game plan etc. See the upside to this young side and coach, and appreciate that this is still a developing list with lots of improvement still to come.

Terry Wallace is a complete nuffy, who destroyed the Tigers list and was proven to be an average coach.

Oscar McDonald should be playing at Casey still but we haven't got many options. McDonald is limited in some areas but very good in others.

There are not many tall defenders with great decision making skills...... it is why they are tall defenders.

We do talk about all the positives and upsides. There are many but without ridding of this persistent mental weakness we will never seriously be a deep finals side let alone win a premiership before the next rebuild is called for.

3-4 is a failure.
Simple as that.
7 staight Vic games and we are at 3-4 with a worse percentage than the same stage last year.

"We should have won"

What a defeatist approach that is.
"Should have"...What an absolute joke, "At least we were competitive" another catch cry of the loser supporter who enjoys a losing culture.

2014 I was happy to be competitive because I was sick of 100pt thumpings.

Serious issue with the club culture and mental toughness of this club.

We WILL NOT make the finals this year, that is a fact.
We have NOT progressed as a club.

We have beaten the teams around the ground this year and only the demons could vastly improve their game over 300% and still come up with losses week in week out.

JKH will never be and has never been an AFL player, Stretch in the 2's is a disgrace and the coaching staff need their heads checked as to why they leave guys like him, Kent, and Harmes out.

Adelaide will be a huge loss and we will not get off the hook nearly as much as we have been with turn overs with them, they will dish out a 70 point belting and im sure either Viney, Hogan, Lewis, or Vince will cop a suspension for an errant hit or striking whilst we are 54 points down in the 3rd qtr.

Can't disagree at this stage.  O McDonald is a mile off by unfortunately we don't have any other options.  We have draft mids and forwards with our early picks.  It is a Paul Roos theory defend in the middle to tale pressure off the tall backs, which works for us when our mids are playing well.  Our biggest issue which has been said 100s of times  each week for the past 7 in post match threads, we haven't played 4 good quarters of Football in a game this year, we seem to have each week 1 sensational quarter and the other 3 we compete well for 1 quarter and play like a bottom 4 side for the other quarter.  Till we can fix this the rollercoaster ride that we are all on at the moment will continue, even in quarters we see great periods followed by complete garbage.

I can already see what will happen next week. One of a few things:

1. Adelaide will get a 25-30 point lead early, we'll peg it back but ultimately lose by 15-20

2. We'll jump Adelaide, get out to a strong 3-4 goal lead but them crumble and lose by 1 point

3. Adelaide will pump us (unlikely imo)

We need 3-4 players to have the best game of their careers in order to win this weekend. Lose and we are 3-5 with finals looking increasingly unlikely.

I agree with most of this. Simple fact is 3-4 is failure. We've had a better fixture than this time last year, haven't left Melbourne for 7 games, yet have gone backwards in both wins and percentage. I've attended every game and we do appear to be a better team this year, but so are many others as evidenced by the matches over the weekend. It's a very even league and everyone is always improving. We are 3-4, which means we have lost more than we've won and we're currently outside of the top 8. Our draw starts to get harder from here so it's hard to see us improving and making finals now. This club needs to get serious and get ruthless. We have been losers for decades, and the soft mental attitude of the club doesn't appear to have changed. I was happy with being competitive a few years ago as we were an absolute joke of a football team and anything less than a 100 point less was a treat to watch. We are at a stage now where we cannot accept losing in any fashion. The club and players need to take responsibility. Whether it's extra training and education sessions or donating their match payments to charity every time they lose, it is now no longer acceptable in any form.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie
