The reason that Weitering had so little influence was that he concentrated almost entirely on keeping T-Mac out of marking contests.

What's the go with Jetta. Is it a low 'football iq' or is he under instruction to do differently to everyone else by making sure he walks back from the mark as slowly as possible and ensure he slows down the play as much as he possibly can when he gets the ball through a mark or free. Needs to show some urgency when he has the ball...at least to make the opposition players have to be more active.

Personally I'd accept some slow plays over the headless chook stuff the rest of the defenders go with. He's got a lovely step and hits his targets when moving. Doesn't rack up the ball or spread quickly but a few others could be far more patient.

There was one particularly bad instance where Jetta did this and it resulted in a Carlton shot on goal.

However, he is by no means the worst as this is something that I have been banging on about for years with the whole team.  I'm amazed that with so many coaches that it still a regular occurrence.

Yes I will pay that but at times he looked slow and again produced some un Hawthorn like turnovers by foot but yes he fought well in the clinches. My wife is a Hawks supporter and reports that Gibson looks to be cooked after two games. Amazing how a well oiled machine like the Hawks when it is flying as a unit can cover the individual weaknesses of aging players, until last year of course when they went out in straight sets. Not sure how JL is going to travel throughout this year. Fingers crossed

Yes, and hitting targets consistently is not his greatest strength. Frustratingly so actually. Having said that though he does provide invaluable on field leadership for such a young group, and I suspect has been very influential in the last two games in getting us across the lines, when in past years we may not have.

it will be interesting to see how his role evolves over the next three years as our young guns mature...

With Lewis it was good coaching from Bolton. He put an offensive tagger in Curnow (aerobic beast) with the instruction to run Lewis off his feet -  I think that made him look slow as he was absolutely spent. 

I watched him in packs and he's got a great knack at hurting blokes, excellent at positioning team mates with instructions and when hunt blazed at goal from boundary instead of centreing ball Lewis gave him a great spray  - all priceless attributes.

Watching the replay last night, I realised just how important was T McD. And, on the face of it, Hogan has had a poor game, but he actually played well.

i thought Harmes was tough at it, marked well, and I hope he retains his place.

Hogans efforts off the ball in the first 2 games have been fantastic. Hope he keeps it up, he isnt gonna score heavily each week, If he had slotted his chance in the 3rd then it would have been a good game for him.

He had to play out of position in defence to cover for Vince, and I wonder if he just feels more at home in the middle or forward of centre. When he realised he was going to be tagged by someone as capable as Curnow, he realised the best thing was to change his game to keep Curnow away from the ball as much as possible, and around stoppages he just tried to block for the likes of Clarry & Tyson. That would be something completely new to our mids, who rarely if ever seem to block for each other, like every other team's mids do.

Bolded part well put. Hogan's work inside 50 was putrid, but everywhere else he was very good indeed.

22 possies & 10 marks, but only one of those marks was inside 50 (must have been the one he missed from about 30m), and he must have dropped 3 or 4 relative sitters that he got both hands to.

Low football IQ, that's only demonstrated on Demonland

If Nev has the opportunity to play on quickly he does, yesterday there weren't many opportunities to do that

Of all our backline players, he is the one I feel most relaxed with when the ball is in his hands. Played the loose for a lot of the game and looked very safe getting to the right spots to take uncontested marks. Plays on when he can or holds it up if he has to.
