i thought the game changed for us in the second quarter when Hogan and oliver went on the ball. That seemed to give us some real hard grunt around the ball and change the teams approach and attitude that just kept on going. I do worry about oscar he does appear to be almost like a roo in the headlights when he gets the ball, not sure what to do, maybe he is looking around too much for his brother. Hopefully he can work it out when to play on and how to dispose of the ball, maybe a stint in casey would help.

Garlett kicked 3 goals. Thought it might be worthwhile to give it a mention.

He also moved up the field with the press and pressured/contested well at times Sku. Even attempted a pack mark from behind at one point bringing ball to ground. Not really his role but the other Keys were out of position a little and he read ball better. Something i haven't sen alot of. Best all round game i've seen from him in a while

Good to see some love for Garlett. I especially noticed that when Watts went into the air, Garlett was near the pack. Watts should have actually marked a couple, he got his hands clean to the ball but couldn't clunk it. I reckon Garlett understands this and is in position A to cherry pick knowing Watts' is still devloping his pack marking.

But it was Garlett's pace around the packs that was fhe highlight. His first 2-3 steps are ridiculously quick and gets to full pace early.

I know he isgoing to have runs of games when he goes totally missing but when he is on, I lean forward I my seat when he is around the ball.

Imo OMac really needs to go back to the seconds and work on his game.

He has the attributes but needs to get his confidence and skill level up.

I don't know how he keeps his spot in the seniors.

Couldn't agree more.. his kicking is worse than his older brother when he started! At least Tom kicked through the ball!

A couple of years back many Deelanders and not without warrant were bemoaning our lack of players getting decent possession numbers across the board. Certainly been turning around in the last 18 months and was evident though pre season and yesterday.

There was a great spread through the side but not just pointless possessions. The disposal efficiency and transition through the corridor or over the Saints zone was fantastic.

Celebration done now Carlton. Let's not make the mistakes of Round Two 2016

PS: Clayton Oliver, that is all

Anyone who has panned Jetta is an idiot and are those fans who really don't know anything.  As simple as that

Will Bernie be playing next week?

I'd say so.  I don't think there was a whole lot in it to be honest.  If he was extremely unlucky then you would think he might miss a week, but nothing more than that.

I'm currently in a remote area of NSW.  Watched the game on Fox, had a few too many 'quiet ones' post match to celebrate, and drove 30 odd K's this morning to find 'phone reception, so I could join the Demonland chatter .......... and of course I'm loving it! My two overriding observations on the game:

  • no 'passengers' after 1/4 time;
  • Goody can coach!

You bloody ripper!!!!!

Oliver is just a freak. I don't mean because he's ginger, I mean a footballing freak. Also because he's ginger. Those hands, he's like Magic Johnson out there. That lofted handball over his shoulder to Jones who goaled on his left was just footy porn. As gifted a footballer as I've seen. Don't forget the start of his pre-season - looked out of shape, drink driving incident, and was struggling with hayfever. What a turnaround.

That also stood out to me watching the highlights package.

I've never seen a Demon with hands like that and I'm not sure how many other AFL players I've seen at that level, at least not at the age of 19.

And to think the stats he put up yesterday were from just 75% TOG.

Clarry's give to Jones for the left-foot goal was way too fast for the commentators. They described it as "Jones has found some space", seemingly unaware that Clarry had got it out to him in a fraction of a second.

The only thing that concerns me about it is that it was behind play.

Imo will prob get a week unfortunately

Weid showed a couple of things this game I hadn't seen from him yet - some agility and a bit of speed.

Once he starts clunking those big pack marks he is so close to taking, he gonna be awesome.  He is just 19 amazingly, so he has plenty of time.

We have watched the replay 3 times now and it was an awesome effort from the Dee's, no passengers and every one going when it was their turn I thought that Oscar got better as the game wore on and Tom was great from start to finish, the older heads settled the team down and provided targets and the younger brigade just tore it apart. So proud of all the boy's who pulled on the Red and Blue today, another Hoo Doo down.. Go Dee's!!!

Bontompelli did the same thing on Friday night. All night. To be honest, I'm not really a fan of the super-fast handball over the head that is more using the sling of the arm to give it momentum and getting a fist onto it to fool the umpires. Great that he is doing the Bulldogs style as it's the only way to clear a pack over your head with a tackle coming at you, and we'll need to do it to beat them. but it's on the edge. Currently umpires allowing it.

If anything Membrey should get a week for his faux soccer style reaction.

I can't think of a better individual performance by a second year player in years, Oliver is a freak!

I thought brayshaw looked great when he was in the middle as well

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
