Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Goodwin in his own words said that this will be much closer to a full dress rehearsal for the first game and the opposistion should be a good one in the Eagles.

Tyson and Kent should return with the (remote) possibility of Watts and Jetta also suiting up.

JKH is out with injury which frees up a spot for Kent and Tyson should replace ANB for this game. There is also 2 less on the bench so young Johnstone and someone else will miss out you would think..

It's a bonus for us WA based members to see the team over here in the pre season comp given they only get over here once more this year so I'll definitely be getting along to the game.

Any other WA supporters planning on attending Thursday?

Hey McQueen, will be there with the little fella and my Eagle supporting old man. We should catch up for a beer at half time, pm me if you're interested.

Someone also mentioned Joel Smith playing ahead of Garland.  Whilst I loved Smith's tackling and defensive pressure, he was shown up big time most times when he had the ball and couldn't dispose of it in good fashion or to the right option.  Was great to give him two games exposure at the top level in preseason, but it's either Garland, Jetta, Frost, Hibbard or Harmes come round one for me

I like Smith and think he should play this year. But if he isnt ready Garland seems the logical one to play, he is there to be a backup so if Hibbard is out why not use him? I dont like Harmes in the backline though, I think he is much more dangerous as a forward. And his occasional shank isn't such a problem

ANB is actually a bit of a wildcard with so many small forwards injured

Am I the only person that hates this? He has little to no influence when he plays forward. I understand that he plays well at VFL level in the midfield!! but its frustrating to see him come in and play forward where he stuggles then take him back to the VFL and he goes into the middle again. They need to play him as an inside midfielder or not at all. This is the whole "frost is a forward" thing all over again

Agree.

One game against Geelong where he happened to get on the end of a few seems to convince many that he's a great small forward.

And I'm sure it'll be referenced for the next five years.

Just like Gysberts.

And Jamar's 2010 AA year.

And Frawley's.

Etc...

Etc Etc...

zzzzz.....

Goodwin will probably go with more rotations than Roos but the reality is Jones, Viney, Tyson, Oliver, Brayshaw, Salem are all probably going to get picked to play on ball before ANB. He isn't a natural forward but if he's picked he's not expected to kick a bunch of goals from strong marks or crumbing, he's expected to run hard both ways, tackle and make decent decisions with the ball. That spot is a midfielders position these days - Mav Weller, Josh Dunkley/Clay Smith, Toby Greene, Kieren Jack etc. The other players who we play there - Kent, Vanders, JKH are much more like traditional midfielders than they are forwards.

The spots have opened up and we might not have any better options so I want to see him take the opportunity. If he can't play as a defensive half forward then he's not going to be much of a midfielder even if he's better suited to that role. If he can't run, tackle and do ok with 10-15 touches then I don't want him getting 25 in the guts.

Plonk Frawley in our defence and we are a significantly better team.  I fail to understand how anyone disagrees.

Look at you.... Mr bundle of positivity

Oh I forgot, ANBs elite endurance and trengove's decision making are going to overrun the zippy saints midfield on the fastest, smallest deck in footy. A brigade of mids who are forced to play half forward are going to contribute 10 goals plus between them, with brayshaw to kick 4, harmes 3 and salem 3. And watts will fire, despite having no match practise and being under intense scrutiny. And hogan won't get monstered by carlisle and double teamed at every opportunity. And oscar will fly high to deny bruce goalscoring opps. And garland will be incredibly alert and diligent to deny membrey time and space. And Tom Mac won't run off riewoldt and let him get off the chain. And Melksham won't turn it over through the corridor, and the saints wont overrun us with speed and spread on the counter.

Honestly I pity you if you think this week's squad would win rd1. To stand any chance watts and petracca would need to kick 8 between them without kent and garlett around.  The midfield would need to win the i50 battle by a big margin, because if it gets down there, the saints are going to score. Without hib/wag as third defender, we simply can't cover them.

How's that for a bundle of reality?

This weeks squad is at least 80% the same players that will play in round 1.

If you think the saints are raging favorites maybe you should put your money where your mouth is.

At $1.70 Melbourne are strong favorites

I would say that at $1.24 the Swans are strong favourites. at $1.70 i think we are just favourites, but sure hyperbole thats what this thread needs more of :)

I know there is some.long overdue hype around us at the moment but those are some surprising odds.

Is put my hard earned every day on the saints over the dees at etihad until the dees can prove otherwise.

Not very realistic at all... if you seriously think that is the squad that will be presenting on March 25th, then you may have lost your grip on reality.  There are Kent, Garlett, Jetta, Frost and Hibberd, most of whom are likely to be ready to take the field against the 'Aints and will probably get a run at Casey the week before as a warm up.

Totally agree, used to frustrate me too

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
