JLT Round 4, Thursday 9th March - West Coast at Subiaco

Goodwin in his own words said that this will be much closer to a full dress rehearsal for the first game and the opposistion should be a good one in the Eagles.

Tyson and Kent should return with the (remote) possibility of Watts and Jetta also suiting up.

JKH is out with injury which frees up a spot for Kent and Tyson should replace ANB for this game. There is also 2 less on the bench so young Johnstone and someone else will miss out you would think..

It's a bonus for us WA based members to see the team over here in the pre season comp given they only get over here once more this year so I'll definitely be getting along to the game.

Any other WA supporters planning on attending Thursday?

Sounds like from Saty's report that AVB probably won't get up either.  So it would be Johnstone, JKH, ANB, AVB out and possibly one or two of Bugg / Harmes / Weideman / Smith with some or all Watts, Jetta, Kent and Tyson in.  The article on big Max in the Hun was interesting in that he openly talked about Goodwin being positively disposed to playing two rucks.  It might however be a horses for courses approach and St Kilda at Etihad might not be a targeted game for that strategy....in which case maybe big Jake comes out this week.

It looks like JKH and AVB are certain to miss this week, and you would think that Kent, Tyson, Jetta and Watts will also be available for selection, so I'm assuming there will be some changes.  It sounds like Frost and Garlett may also be another week away as well.

I'm looking forward to this game, as I feel like the Eagles will be a good test for us.  Their forward line is one of the best in the business and their midfield runs pretty deep as well.  Being able to beat them over there, which is me being a little optimistic, will set us up superbly for Round 1.

I'd also play cautious with Jack Viney if there is any sign tenderness in his (previously) broken hand.  We know exactly what we will get from Jack, and there's no point taking even the slightest risk with such an important player when there are no premiership points up for grabs.

I assume if we play our best 24 we'll go with:

FB: Hibberd  Oscar  Hunt
HB: Melky   Tom MC Vince
C: Lewis  Oliver  Stretch
HF: Viney Hogan Brayshaw
FF: Kent   Weed  Petracca
Foll: Gawn  Jones  Salem
Int 6 out of:  J Smith, Spencer, Tyson, Watts, Bugg, Jetta, Harmes, ANB

Possibles: Garland, Trengove, Johnstone, Hannan, Pedersen, Tim Smith?

Will be interesting to see if we go with any new players in to the squad aside from the injured players coming back or Watts. If Watts and Kent aren't back in then I'd try Hannan or Tim Smith just to look at other forward options if Vanders is going to be out for a while.

You would expect that if Watts plays, Spencer won't.

And I would further expect that if Kent plays, then ANB won't.

If Viney is rested, then I'd imagine ANB comes back in.

I don't expect any of the "possibles" to play this weekend.  They are secondary depth.

Forecast top temperature for Thursday is 32.

The later start may still see the game played in difficult conditions.

No doubt the AFL will be aware of this:

I belive it might have happened in the last JLT match, where it looked like he landed awkwardly and jammed his foot into the turf. Commentators seemed to think that it would be ok - but the again it could also be broken.

Hmmm...you'd think if it was a stress fracture scans would have shown that...mysterious

Don't know if the results of the scans have been reported anywhere have they? At least not from the club as far as I know.

Edit - happy to have this information be incorrect and only an ankle sprain or something minor.

Anyone else going to WA?

Freakish, I know. Fly out Wednesday night. Planning to see Perth mate and also check colour of Lightning Blue Mustang Convertible - NONE on the eastern Seaboard.

Oh yeah, Dees are at Domain.

Checked the Subiaco website thru MFC APP and there's a box - MELBOURNE MEMBERS

Not sure if that's for sandgropers in Victoria - or proper people.

Rang MFC, renewed, they'll email me Thursday morning where to pick ticket up from at the ground.

Better than negotiating the Domain website.

Any one else?
Are we sure MFC Membership admits to JLT games?

MFC tweet.  Hibberd will also miss due to achilles soreness.  Achilles soreness always worries me.  Hope it is just precautionary.

He's really struggling for runs on the board at the moment

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th
