Jack Watts doing rehab running over about 40-50m at about 1/3 pace.

I'd say he's quite a few weeks from playing.:(

It just gets better and better, thanks for the update albeit not one we wanted to hear. Did you notice anything else?

Could the club not update the members and supporters by confirming Watts strained his hammy last week and will be out for a further 3-4 weeks. It certainly sounds like it's the case. A bit of transparency would be appreciated.

Same deal with Garlett.

Yeah, quite odd.

Watts had a fitness test the week leading into the West Coast and couldn't even complete half of it, then was hardly sighted last week at all prior to Sydney game, yet Goodwin states he's a chance this week.

thanks for the update.  but couldnt this just be part of his fitness test/checking out the hammy?

start with jogging to warm it up, move to 1/3 pace then 2/3 pace etc??

this weekend there will be only 5 players that have played all 15 games this years.

and we could see the 35th player on the list get a run if maynard/JT/Johnstone or Ben Ken play

give us a farrrkking break

Yep, with a third of the season still remaining. Is this us drinking our own bath water?

Looks like Jones is picking up his workload. Might only miss the next 3 games and be back round 19 v north.

viney should also be back then. Assuming no further setbacks from current injured players we should be almost at full strength in 3 weeks.

watts, hogan, jeffy, viney, jones, Salem and brayshaw (VFL)

if we win 1 from the next 3 I think we would have done well. Then need to win 3 from 5 to guarantee a finals spot.

I thought it was 3 or 4 from 8?

Well, as Bandicoot said "if we win 1 from the next 3 I think we would have done well. Then need to win 3 from 5 to guarantee a finals spot." next three weeks is without a few of our best players (so 1 win from those 3 games), then in the final 5 weeks after we have most of our list up and running, 3 from those 5 matches.

1 win + 3 wins = 4 wins
3 weeks + 5 weeks = 8 games.

Clear as mud?

This is a bit off topic but I would like to see us win more than the minimum 12 and scrape into 8th spot.  The others in the bottom 4 are likely to be Port, WCE and Sydney.  So I would like enough wins to get us to 5th or 6th for a home final...ideally not against Sydney.

A little voice in my head says one-week-at-a-time and if we get there we can beat anyone, anywhere, anytime...

...but in my heart I would be shattered if our first final in eons is interstate and I can't get there!

GOALSNEAK Jeff Garlett (hamstring), key forward Jesse Hogan (testicular cancer) and ball-winner Dom Tyson (knee) are all chances for Sunday’s clash against Carlton at the MCG.

Looks like it the recap of the Misson weekly video, only they didnt upload the video.

Clearly 5, arguably 7 of our best 10 players on that list.

I'd have Vanders and Gus straight in if they were available and in form this week as well.

By the way does any one know how Gus is going with his rehab? There has been no news for a while regarding where his at, or when he is going to get a game in the twos?

http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2017-06-29/saint-great-helps-brayshaw-in-comeback

General manager of football operations Josh Mahoney said the club wouldn’t rush Brayshaw’s return to the game, but it remained optimistic about his progress.

“Angus will be in full training early next week. All things going well, he’ll need a couple of weeks of full training and then hopefully he’ll be available to play – all things going well in that time,” he said.

Brayshaw said he was progressing “slowly but surely, but tracking upwards” after being sidelined for the past six weeks. The talented and likeable youngster said it had been a steady recover and was optimistic about returning soon.

“Hopefully there’s not too much left of it, but I’m going along quite nicely at the moment,” he said.

“The next step for me is to join full training with the team – that will happen sometime next week, and then it’s two to three weeks of training with the group.

“If all of that goes smoothly, then I’ll think about playing, but it’s hard to put specific numbers on everything and give an estimate of how far away I am.”

So, in 2-3 weeks we should have these 5 back. May the rehab gods smile upon us.

I wonder what he meant here? I can read into it a couple of possible interpretations:

  1. That there's not much time left before he'll be back properly training and playing
  2. That there are not many of the symptoms of concussion (eg headaches, nausea) still bothering him.

I really hope he means the first.

I read that he is ok re concussion and it's now a matter of conditioning and contact training to be match ready.  If there were residual concussion symptoms I'd doubt he'd even mention timeframes.

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol
