Why is he a burden, be specific

Gee you remember something from 8 years ago, I've moved on from last weeks game, it's easy if you try

Spencer if he gets a go is coming off a full pre season for only about the 2nd time in ten years and two years of ruck coaching from Greg Stafford, also been told his running and aerobic ability is the best it has ever been

His goal kicking action now is one of the simplest at the club, they stripped it back, reasonably successful now

Not sure why I need to be specific Satyrconhome, its obvious to anyone that has watched him play up forward.

To play up forward you need some of these attributes: goal sense, goal kicking accuracy, forward pressure, strong marking under pressure, ability to evade, well timed leading patterns etc etc. He isn't particularly good at any of these but as I said he is serviceable in the ruck and think he will do ok and am happy for him to get his chance after all the work he has put in.

Let's be honest... we now have no reserve forwards, no more reserve rucks and the backline is looking thin. And now Vince off for surgery!

Extremely minor surgery. -

A Melbourne spokesman told AFL.com.au on Sunday that Vince had his toe repaired on Saturday night, with the toenail removed.

The Demons will monitor Vince's progress in the coming days, but remain hopeful he will be available to face Fremantle at the MCG next Saturday.

Jason Johanissen came back from a similar injury last year and won the Norm Smith....he'll be back if we are in with a chance of finals for sure

As long as they keep Maxi away from Hoges, we know Maxi loves a dart.

Boy.. such confidence on this site that we can overcome injuries, suspensions etc.

Riewoldt goes down with what looks like a season if not career ending injury and is back after missing one match.... MFCSS is very much alive with me as I keep remembering Spencer's VFL finals series last year.

Lucky we are playing Freo this week .. hopefully it is their turn to be "young and tired".

PS: Now see that Vince might do a Lazarus and play this weekend.... fingers crossed

No reserves??

Fwds - Pedersen, JKH, Kennedy and Hullett

Backs - Frost, Hibberd and Wagner

agree not the same calibre but can play a role if required

You are so frequently incredibly condescending to people Saty. Whether you do it to wind people up, to troll, because you think it is ok to be rude on an anonymous forum, because others are rude or you are oblivious to how you come across and lack insight does not change the fact you are often very rude to people.

I really wonder why you think it is appropriate to demand of Demons1858 he 'be specific'. Who are you to demand that? And your unwarranted sarcasm to JV8 is plain rude and it it simply strange that you feel the need to state 'I've moved on from last weeks game, it's easy if you try'. So what? Bully for you.

Just plain rude, especially considering neither Demons1858 or JV8 were addressing a point you made, engaging in discourse with you or asking for your opinion of their views.

If i was a mod i would ban you for repeated rudeness.

Seeing i'm not i'm going to permanently put you on ignore. I had you on ignore but took the ignore off as you seemed to have improved your rudeness quotient. i know you will profess you don't care but that's ok. Rude people often don't care about how others feel. So good bye. For good. See you in the quotes from others.

Spot on binman! Was wondering the same thing

Note the injuries the Bullies had last year.  They obviously overcame adversity, over the course of the year, to win the ultimate prize.  "Why not us"?

Thanks for the reminder iva ....why not!

If it's his big toe it could be quite painful to play footy. If it's a lesser toe or on his non dominant foot or both he might be able to play, especially if a doctor does a toe block with local anesthetic for the game.

Incredibly, our next in line available ruckman has only recently returned to football and has not even played a VFL game yet. (If I remember correctly, even the injured Mitch has yet to play a VFL game).

Most clubs don't have more than 2 ruckman and a third project option. We aren't any different

So I assume you have watched him at Casey and in the JLT against West Coast when he kicked 3, his goal kicking  has improved and so has his ability to play forward or are you another basing your opinion from a few years ago?

He played 3 games and performed better than average in 1 pre-season tune up game. Not a big enough sample to say he has improved significantly. The MFC would have played him lasy year or in round 1, 2 or 3 as a forward/back up ruck if they thought he was good enough in that role. You seem to labouring the point, not sure why, he has other attributes and he deserves his chance

There is a hell of a lot of preemptive negativity going on here.

I do realize that there have been reasons for this over much of the past half century, but I sure hope that all supporters get behind Jake Spencer and not bag him for every error (that all players make).

He now has his first real opportunity to show his stuff off a rare full preseason.

Go Jake -- show these sceptics.

Agree but don't expect it game 1, give him time to know what it is to compete at the top level. Tough task against the giant from Freo first up, but give him hell Spenc.

There seems to be a bit more to the Hogan story than what we have been told so far;  See this statement from Jonesy on the MFC website:

"While Gawn's injury woes should see him back mid-season, problems affecting forward Jesse Hogan may take longer to solve.

The star forward was photographed smoking at a Perth music festival on the weekend while on leave from the club during a two-week suspension.

While he refused to go into specifics, Jones conceded the club was helping his young teammate with personal issues.

"It's been reported that Jesse has a bit going on personally, which (as a club) we're not willing to go into, (but) I think we he's ready he'll probably talk about that," Jones said.

"We don't condone (his smoking), but we'll support him through the stuff he's going through at the moment."

Is there a possibility that we won't be seeing him against Richmond and beyond(?) or is this just MFCSS kicking in?

He'll play round 5, but obviously Jones doesn't want to discuss the health of his Father, which is obviously a concern to Jesse.

That's the extent that needs to be read into it.

Wow there pardners, I'm simply pointing out that we don't have a goto ruckman if Spencil goes down. I'm not critical of the club and it remains to be seen if it becomes a problem, (though I am worried about Spencil's durability). As for other clubs, either by design or good fortune few fall away so far after their second ruck. Just to be on firmer ground I quickly looked up Richmond, St. Kilda, Essendon, Geelong and Nth lists - you can check for yourself, they all run 3 deep. In Nth's case just by good luck, from the reports on the first three rounds Preuss is now virtually 1st ruck.

It's just bad luck for us.

Exactly. (edit: redacted)

The fact that Mahoney, Jones and Gawn have now all now been asked and all said "we're right behind him" says to me that Jesse is in a tough place and is being cut a considerable amount of slack. I expect he'll be back because he's a competitor who will want to compete, and surely the club's supportive attitude will only help.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
