I like Col, he is a great character and has a bunch of talent, but watching him last week get sucked out of position time and again, I could not see him return to play AFL. This injury may motivate him but I think his time has passed.

Does anyone see him coming back from this?

Sadly no.

Next week (round 1) was going to be his last chance at resurrecting his career but that's been taken away from him.

The Dunn trade has gone from a good will trade to Dunn and Collingwood to a bit of a disaster for us, given that we have neither Garland or Dunn as the veteran back up this year.

At the time the trade made sense but who could forsee Garland doing his ACL?

My heart breaks for him. The door was ajar for a spot round one and then this happens.

The football gods can be very cruel.

They can indeed, he was a good footballer for us in a time when we had very few, his closing speed was excellent and he was very good at one on one spoiling, but he just seemed to have had all the confidence sucked out of him because of the way the club has been over the last 10 years.

Yes, good point. Maybe Col never really reached his full potential at Melbourne. A bit like Stevie Armstrong. Looked pedestrian at Melbourne with their list and all, but Moved to WCE and won a premiership medallion!

On on another note, wish you well Col. Fight  the good fight mate!

I was really pleased when I saw Garland playing - I had this warm glow that he was being given a real chance (I was hoping he wasn't cooked) this is proof they deserve their pay - not to many golden sunsets.

Unfortunately Col doesn't have youth on his side like Armstrong.

Btw, is that you Range Rover?

Range Rover. Thredbo. Taking a swipe at Watts in your very first post in a thread on Allen Jackovich. And now 'Melbourne with their list'. I'm pretty certain you're not Paul Roos so my guess is a sad little troll.

The same Armstrong who played 36 games in three seasons at WCE and was delisted when just 24 years old..?

He should have used Frawley as an example, looked good at Melbourne but conceded a lot of goals at times. At Hawthorn looks ordinary , still concedes goals at times but has a premiership medallion.

Very sad for Col. His best was tremendous but we didn't see it much in the past few years. Loyal servant of the club. Hard to see him coming back from this but wish him all the best.

Ideally he would've played the year and kept working on improving like he seemed to do a bit in the VFL last year, played some games if needed and kept being a good club man.

But I guess the silver lining from this is he now gets a choice - negotiate a settlement and call time on his career - or give the rehab 110% and do some serious work in the gym, rest up his legs for a while etc. Long term injuries do allow a player to be mentally and physically refresh so if he chooses to play on I hope he takes advantage of that chance to mix things up a bit. Currently he's not really strong enough to be a key defender, fit enough to be an interceptor or fast enough to be a rebounder so changing up his training might help that as well as giving him a different mental challenge and some time to do other things.

For those saying that he's done - are you suggesting that we cut a contracted player who's been injured..?  That'd be pretty poor form from the club.

That's the kind of treatment that can get a whole playing list offside.

I am not saying that TPF39 but I am of the opinion that he is finished as a regular player in the senior team.

IMO the only thing that will get him a regular spot in 2018 is a long list of injuries and I am not sure even that will get him a game.

The FD will be looking to the future.

newer recruits will get games because they are the future potential players when we are playing finals.

Seems to be a great guy but sadly from the terrible past.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
