Harmes will struggle to get a game.

Until he improves his kicking he will be struggling to cement a position. Once he does though, he'll become an almost automatic selection, as he can find a fair bit of the footy.

A number of the young blokes have played well ... Salem,  Petracca & Oliver especially.  Brayshaw has shown a bit when he's been on - got some class about him.

Viney,  Jones,  Gawn,  Vince,  Lewis,  Hogan all good & all our backmen have done their job too.  Vanders, Hunt & ANB all made contributions.

Some great signs.  The Blues never threatened.

17.14.116 to 9.8.62.

Our swarming pressure on the player with the ball and quick hands to someone in space out of a contest were the general highlights. Petracca played the game at a different level to all others today and showed he has gone up a level or 2 at least. Melksham rusty first half but very good second half. Our general transition out of deep defence is our biggest issue. Spencer proved he will be serviceable if needed to stand up during the year but I think we can put the two ruckman experiment away for round 1.

To me the most obvious difference in our play is the quick sharp handballs which are not going to a player about to be tackled, or are so quick that he still isn't tackled.  Perhaps that is biased by only watching the game on TV.

Normally put this meaningless ladder elsewhere but it seems appropriate for here and now - the live ladder:-

Club history made twice today.

First Melbourne Football Club win at Casey Fields ... (in the AFLW)

Second Melbourne Football Club win at Casey Fields ... (and first in the AFL)

Other notable achievement ->

Put an end to Carlton's season (well that's what one of their supporters just told me).

Carlton weren't destined for much of a season ;)

Good hit out and solid contribution from all. However, the McDonald brothers really need to work on their disposal and decision making. CP was epic today and if he can consistently play to that level then he could be anything.

Oh, I was watching on the iPhone in Bunnings with the kids screaming in the play area.

Bit distracted.

    UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

    Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
